Good morning, everyone.

Kids home from school today, so trying to think of something fun we could do. I wanted to go on the river walk, (and the animal shelter is right there and they "loan" you dogs to walk, which my kids love) but it's blowing like crazy and cccooollllddd, supposed to maybe snow, so that's probably out.

Made the beer butt chicken last night and it was *so good. Using the leftovers tonight to make chicken soup or maybe chicken pot pie.

T@iy@ said...

RiM- I really almost just asked where you lived. Glad I thought about that one first.

So glad that we are not expecting snow today...

Robin in Montana said...

Taiya -- LOL. I am very mysterious. ::nod::

Anonymous said...

LOL Taiya!

Hi RiM! Snow, again? Uuuugh

kristin said...

Taiya - I think I took ibuprofen this morning :) I am also achey. I don't think I have tylenol at the office. There is ibuprofen, aspirin and I have some naproxen.

Robin in Montana said...

Hi Corinne! I don't think it will stick, and we're definitely not getting hit (well, yet) like Washington is. I get my news from Spokane and they were showing pics of Snoqualmie Pass and you have to have chains to get over. Hate it. Either of our resident Washingtonians close to Spokane?

Karen said...

Good morning everyone.

Kristin if you can't remember if you took ibuprofen, then you can take tylenol and if you're still in pain, you can switch back and forth between ibuprofen and tylenol so that you are taking something every two hours... at least thats what I've been told for a sinus infection before.

I did swimming lessons with my son when he was little, but not with the girls, and all 3 of my kids are like little fish! I also love the water!

T@iy@ said...

Aspirin is also good for headaches. Aspirin thins your blood to some extent and helps ease aches, including headaches. Don't ask me to get any more specific, because I couldn't. haha. Ibuprofen lessens the hormones that cause muscles and things to be swollen or inflamed, which is why that works better on muscles, hurts, etc.

I like to research what I put in my body. I'm a bit odd about it. Actually, I basically only take tylenol if I can help it, because if it is safe for preggo women, I figure it has to be pretty darn safe in general.

I meant The Reverb - I like his pics.

Howdy!

Taiya - so glad it was nothing serious on your hubby. Tell him to quit playing with them so they done hurt!!

RiM - I'm halfway between Seattle and Candada, but those Snoqualmie Pass pics are amazing. And we are expecting more. It's freaking cold here, though. You get your news from Spokane? I had no idea! Spokane is beautiful.

Kristin - I'd take plain old aspirin with either a coke or a cup of coffee. That should kill your headache. It always works with my migraines.

Lindsay -- yes, here in Podunk, my "local" networks are Spokane. Which is a total pain in the ass, because of the time difference, so all my shows come on an hour later than normal.

Kristin - the Reverb is Pastor Ryan; right?

Kristin-I'm alternating between Tylenol and ibuprofen and it was working for me yesterday. I'm going to pump the Vitamin C today too.

I like Reverb. ::ducking just in case::

Morning all!

"I was actually diagnosed with Reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder"

I love this a lot AP! I haven't had an actual disorder, but I feel the same way! Nice warm rainy day here, and I'm happy.

I survived a "One Woman Can Change the World" breakfast at 7:00 AM this morning. It didn't suck as much as it could have. I ended up at good table with one of my law partners and a judge and a lawyer that I know and like.

I was tickled about the judge, because I have a history with her that she doesn't know. I am not a trial lawyer, meaning I spend virtually zero time in court. I do some litigation in my field, but it is mostly paper litigation and all the cases settle before trial. If there's a hearing, I take a trial lawyer with me to do the talking in court. Because you really can't be good at that unless you do it a lot.

So I've had one trial, a district court case (just a step above small claims court), years ago. I don't really remember the facts of the case, because I shouldn't have taken the case in the first place and I've tried to block it out of my mind since then. Lost the trial, badly, in front of this judge. Since I'll probably never have another trial, my trial record will forever be an unimpressive 0/1.

Oh well, you can't be good at everything.

SW, I used to work for a corporate law firm. I was the only secretary for 4 lawyers. We were a small little firm but one of the partners was a former Congressman which made life there a little interesting.

kristin said...

Okay - just took 2 aspirin.

Anonymous said...

That should help Kristin.

Angie said...

One secretary for four lawyers? You must have been jumping, Sandy! Our attorney/secretary ratio isn't even 2/1, meaning a few attorneys have their own secretary. I share with one other lawyer.

kristin said...

Yes - The Reverb is Ryan.

I am freezing too, I just turned on my heater. My sis should be bitching soon. :)

SW and AP you ARE a match made in heaven!! You can both sit in the rain and gloom and live happily ever after!!!

kristin said...

bye Taiya!

Angie said...

Well, Karen, I hope so. But I can guarantee you I won't be sitting in South Florida. She and I haven't talked about that, but clearly a relocation to the Pacific Northwest or Belgium is in order...

I was one busy chick. I loved the lawyers I worked for but the office manager was a bitch on wheels. She was left out of some sort of business deal by the partners and took her revenge out on me.

Karen said...

SW my niece just started going to Moody Bible College, which I think is in Spokane - and the pictures she's taken of the places she has gone are just beautiful - I think I could deal with the weather when you have sights like I've seen through her pictures!! it is stunningly beautiful!

Angie said...

Our office manager is the Devil.

Angie said...

Karen, did you take pictures of your new bench spot? I'd like to see.

Karen said...

Sandy I worked for lawyers too - right out of high school - there were 3 in the firm and I was the only secretary and I was 19 years old and it was my first "real" job - I was scared to death, but they taught me ALOT about business and working and stuff. I loved that job, quit when I had my son to stay home, but it was alot of fun!

Karen said...

SW yes I did - cause I had to post the before and after pictures for my former co-workers at the landscaping company! I put them on facebook with a few other pics of Tay - here is the link

I loved court, and I (mostly) love doing transcription, but the time I spent working actually in a law firm I hated. I was just bored or something. I worked for two attorneys (and then later a new associate as well) and I was just ... I don't know, not bored, I had plenty of work to do, but it just wasn't my thing. I'm a nosy broad and I have to be in on the *action, dammit. lol. (I did drink a ton of beer there, though, so it wasn't all bad. And one of the (now) partners used to hang out at my desk and discuss how the height of my desk was the exact right height for ... you know. Sexism at its finest. lol.

Anonymous said...

SW, our manager decided to "work from home" every Friday. She made that decision on her own. She would call in on her cell phone from the grocery store, mall, etc. but never from home. When she was left out of some business deal that the partners were working on, she took her revenge out on me.

Karen said...

Robin I would love to find a way to work from home doing transcription and have it pay well! I type FAST - and would love to be in on the *action too!

Angie said...

I love the bench area, Karen! It's perfect for the space you had to work with. And Tay is such a beautiful child! His eyelashes are to die for!

Robin, I think law firms are going to be the last holdout as far as getting appropriate behavior out of freaking men in the workplace. For some reason lawyers think the rules are for clients, not themselves. Good grief.

Anonymous said...

RiM, I used to sit there with my headphones on because this woman was such a bitch. I loved the transcription part of it the best. I do that at home but it's just general focus group boring ass crap. I'm still waiting to get paid for my Feb 15 and 28th invoices which total close to $600.00. I'm still owed over $1,000 from another lady!

Robin in Montana said...

Karen - Looks very nice! But Tay? Good lord, those eyelashes! Beautiful kid!! :)

Karen said...

Thanks SW - the other side of the door is a little bigger, but no overhang, so we'll plant flowers and stuff over there. Tay is a sweetheart - Love that baby boy!!

I must go get myself motivated, my mom and Patti are packing a few more things in her apartment right now - and then Patti is coming to get me around noon to go to my mom's new apartment to unpack and put away and do final prep for the moving truck day tomorrow. And I promised my mom dinner tonight - I'm making spagetti sauce in the crock pot all day - and will just come home tonight and throw some pasta in water. and I have some frozen rolls that I'm making into garlic knots so I have to figure out if they are supposed to be defrosted first or what. Have a good day all!!!

Robin in Montana said...

Sandy - I hear you. I'm sitting on an invoice from last JULY that was for over $3,000. They've paid me $100 here and there, and one time $400, but they still owe close to $2,000. That one really hurt me -- I need that money!

kristin said...

Bye Karen!

That little one is just gorgeous!

Love the little sitting area too!

Have fun and good luck!

Anonymous said...

RiM - At one point I was owed over $2,000 combined. I went I strike in the middle of a huge project stating I would not work until I was paid. I got checks from one but not the other. What I could do with $1600 right now!

Robin in Montana said...

Karen - I don't know anything about it, but I understand there's a good field out there for medical transcription, and much of it is being outsourced to home workers? A friend of mine in Oregon does transcription for the hospital from her home.

SW - I agree. It's hard to explain, because I know it should be offensive, but I never minded any of the crap that particular guy slung. He'd say stuff like, "I know you want in my pants," and stand wwaaaayyy too close, etc., but it was just ... him. Like he was still in 8th grade, just happened to get through law school. At heart he was a good guy, and he went way out of his way to help me get hired on at the district court, talking to the judges that were there, etc. I don't think he'd have followed through on any of his talk, but whatever.

Another partner, though, had no issues with saying "nigger" and all kinds of slang terms for the (American) Indians around here. That? Was offensive, and seems just incredibly ignorant in someone who is supposed to be educated.

kristin said...

That is when I start making phone calls each and every day.

If it is a city, I ask for supervisor's etc. I also say the "lien" word - that sometimes works.

Anonymous said...

Karen and RiM, I went through training for Medical Transcription and the field is flooded with MT's who are looking for work. If you do not have experience working as an MT, no work for you. I graduated last year and I am still looking.

Anonymous said...

That's how I found these to yahoos that I work for now. They didn't have anything open in MT but did in General. So I took what I could get.

kristin said...

That's the way it is here RiM - but I joke just as much as they do and say "that's what she said" a lot.

I used to work for a drywall company - major bikers - and the field super used to have the office across the hall. I had these little animal things on my computer (German). I locked my door each evening b/c I was payroll - and at least once a week the animals would be arranged in very compromising positions. It was freakin' hysterical.

Robin in Montana said...

Sandy -- That sucks, but is good to know. Since you already do transcription, maybe you should check this site out, AAERT (American Assoc. of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers -- there are classifieds for people looking for transcription work done. I haven't been there in a long time, and I'm not AAERT certified because Oregon does not require it, so I"m not sure if you have to be AAERT certified for all jobs posted there or not, but it wouldn't hurt to look. I don't think the AAERT certification is that tough to get, either way, I just haven't needed to.

Alright ladies - I'll catch you later.

SW - Y'all are welcome in the PNW. And you wouldn't have to get a work visa. And then I can join the supper club. And mostly not ever cook anything, just come and eat. And then we can call you Northwest Woman. And we have anemone's here, too, so AP should feel right at home.

Karen - Spokane is gorgeous, but too landlocked for me. I need the ocean. But they have a beautiful river walk park and the summer sun is nice. But it can get hot there.

Okay, off to shlep kids to school & meet a girlfriend for coffee. See you guys later!

kristin said...

bye lindsay! Enjoy your day!

Robin in Montana said...

Kristin -- that is funny about the little animals. One of the secretaries at that law firm used to go into that lawyer's office when he was gone and search stuff like "fellatio" and leave it up on his screen.

kristin said...

One of the guys did that to ho-worker one day. It took her awhile to figure it out though.

It was f'in hysterical.

Anonymous said...

We had an Austin Powers doll. Don't ask! lol

Robin in Montana said...

LOL. I'm afraid to ask, Sandy.

Okay, taking one kid to a friend's house to play, braving the weather to take Katie on the river walk, and then both kids are going to spend the night at friends' houses.

kristin said...

Yeah RiM!

Anyone else doing anything this weekend?

Robin in Montana said...

Oh. And I hope I keep a backbone. We're going to borrow a dog to walk, and I know from Kelly that there's a really sweet husky there, and I am sorely tempted ...

I'm back...SW, I'm good with Belgium. If we're going to make a change, it may as well be a big one!

I never minded a good ol' politically incorrect office either...I prefer them, in fact. But I was always a stickler about things being super-professional when visitors of any type were there. At the insurance office (major company) I worked at, we'd drink. Our boss encouraged us all to keep a bottle in our desks to we could have a shot before and/or after a difficult client. Loved that! But sexual comments and jokes were the norm and it was great fun. Sometimes I miss that place.

Robin, you don't need a new dog. Those are big dogs, vet care is expensive, lifespan is short and you can't even feed your own ki...oh, wait. Nevermind.

Lisa said...

BD, stop that! *hisses*

Lisa said...

I'm no fan of them, I admit. I consider another Rottie or Irish Setter when SW and I move to a colder place but otherwise, I'm sort of skeered of them all. I have a bad knee scar from a pit bull, toe scars from a vicious childhood Dachshund attack, plus a Pomeranian caused me to suffer serious burns once.

Shannon said...

So AP I am wondering why it is that you and SW live in the sunny hot states? If you both like the rain and clouds why arent you in Washington or Oregon? And mind you in WA and OR you also have to be sure to live in the western portion of the state LOL
