Hi Daisys!! I miss you all!! Still no power cord for the laptop! We went today to look for one - found one at Staples, and Best Buy and Radio Shack - $99!!! What??? Yea, $99 for a dumb power cord!!! Didn't buy it today - not enough $$ - maybe tomorrow - although this is Easter week and we are having dinner Sunday and making baskets for the kids, and have to pay rent this week and money is tight! But this little netbook sucks to type on.... and I want the laptop back. Anyone know anything about power cords and being cheaper than a hundred bucks??

Going to try to catch up a bit - I hope to be back soon - I miss keeping up with everyone here!!!

Oh, very weird, it says there's a comment here but I see nothing.

I'm fine, I just get this weird pain in my right side a couple of times a month and can't figure out if it's food-related or stress or a pulled muscle. It hurts like a mother and makes me feel like I have a bad stomach ache, even nauseous with it, that wraps all around to my back but Ben-Gay, a heating pad and Advil usually ease it up. It gave me a run for my money tonight, took my breath awaay, but I think it's about passed. Because that combination does help, I lean toward it being a stress-related or pulled muscle deal. I'm old, I'm falling apart. :-)

SW, what did you think of Lost? I liked tonight's very much and I'm more convinced than ever that this different "tone", the slowness compared to earlier episodes I've been complaining about, is really giving us background to prepare us for something huge.

Kaytie, I don't ever remember what I texted you and certainly wasn't offended or anything!

That is very weird - cause I commented and its gone

We still don't have a power cord for the laptop - found one today at a few stores but it was $99 - I didn't have that much at the time,I hope we can get it tomorrow...but not sure with Easter baskets to buy and fill for little kiddies!!

I miss my Daisy's!! I hope I'm back tomorrow night with a laptop and not this netbook, its hard to type, hard to read on... I just don't like it!!!

I have lots of reading to catch up on....

AP sorry you aren't feeling well, didn't even read yet what happened to your hip and now you have other aches.... falling apart... nawwww! not yet!! you're younger than ME!!! LOL

Karen said...

Ok I posted twice now - and neither of them are showing, what the heck???? I came back after they posted and they were here and now they are gone???

I'll try again, then I will check back tomorrow - thinking of my invisible friends in the daisy room!!!!

KaytieJ said...

AP - No worries on texts! It was regarding your health reform blog being posted and I must say that after the last couple of days reading up on it and then reading the wonderful posts by Daisy members, I have enjoyed the discussion!

Now - on the pelvic/hip pain once or twice a month (because I have them too), well...frankly I loathe gyne appointments, but on the bright side I have air miles. How about if we schedule an appt., and be each other's sponsors (big grin)

KaytieJ said...

And just to get the post of "Bunsen Burner Day" going out right...I adore Bunsen burners. Had one as a kid in the mud room and continued it with through college :-D Thanks for the reminder AP!

Lisa said...

Karen, hi! And listen, this just dawned on me and I'm sorry it didn't before but we got a new laptop cord for Jake's on eBay. Brand new, some weird brand from China and it took nearly 2 weeks to get here, but it was under $20 shipped and works just fine. Try there. And I see all your posts now, including that first one!

Kaytie, sorry, I'm going to pass although you can still use the miles to visit. :-) This pain is way up high, about breast-height, and a totally separate deal from my hip pain. I'm a mess, I tell you. I really do think it's a stress thing of some sort but I also was tugging around at heavy furniture all day. I am rearranged, even though I now have a loveseat in my dining room. ;-) I need to start noting when it happens and what I did/felt that day.

Lisa said...

Kaytie, I love them, too. I think they are beautiful. I never had one but being able to use one in science lab was one of my high points of high school. :-)

kristin said...

I love Bunsen Burners but then again, I am a science nerd.

AP - your pain - if your hip is bothering you, I am assuming you are favoring it, therefore walking differently, maybe causing your pain/pulled muscle. I know that happens when my hip bothers me, my back on the opposite side and usually up into my shoulder blade will start to hurt. Just an idea.

Karen - when I looked for a new powercord - I think I went to Google shopping and typed in Power Cord and then the brand of the computer - came up with a bunch of them and then you can sort by price. What kind of computer do you have - b/c if it's a dell - I can send you mine from the computer I just had die on me.

Morning ladies!

AP, I don't recall whether you've had your gall bladder out. Your pain sounds similar to gallstone pain.

I liked Lost a lot. I love Jin and Sun, and was happy that the episode centered on them. I wanted to see them reunited, but I'm confident that it will happen. The powers that be won't deny us a Jin/Sun reunion.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Morning Ladies!

AP-I concur with SW.

Bunsen Burners rock!

Karen, Ebay for the powercord.

Lost was really good last night.

Anonymous said...

i killed it!

T@iy@ said...

Nah... there was nothing to kill this morning, Sandy. :) I am lurking between cleaning spurts. Exhausted today for some reason. Lots of breaks. :)

Anonymous said...

Hi ladies!

I'm alive (just barely, though) ;)

Margaret - RIP to C and peace to her family and you as well. She was one tough woman.

AP- It does sound like gallstones or in any case gallbladder-related pain (could be chronic cholecystitis, which is gallstones + inflammation). You should get it checked.
If the pain is located in the upper right side of your abdomen, near your rib cage, it's close to the liver (and gallbladder obviously) so I'd have it checked just to be safe.

I'm so exhausted, I can barely stay awake and it's only 5 p.m.
I had to turn in three papers, one of which was supposed to be a paper written with someone else. Turns out this guy got appendicitis and since I refused to ask for an extension, I decided to finish the work alone. It took me hours to figure out the software (OxMetrics) I had to use for that paper but I.did.it. YAY!

And, Spring Break starts tomorrow at 9.30 a.m. - I can't wait!!

Lisa said...

Nah, you didn't, Sandy. I was just making more coffee before I sat down. :-)

Now, y'all are scaring me about gall stones. So Advil and heat would make that feel better? I was sitting here thinking what Kristin said made sense. I do not want gall stones.

I love Jin and Sun, too. Rose and Bernard were my favorite couple though, and I still think they play a bigger part in all this than we know yet. Plus, I'm waiting for Walt to reappear. I'm convinced he is important.

Anonymous said...

**Waving hi at Corrine**

Back to cleaning I go.

Anonymous said...

Hi Sandy! :)

AP- Here's some more info for you:

http://www.umm.edu/patiented/articles/what_symptoms_of_gallstones_gallbladder_disease_000010_2.htm

Anonymous said...

AP-I think Walt is very important. He was the first to be taken. I loved Rose and Bernard. I think last nights show was by far the best yet.

Anonymous said...

AP-when I was pregnant with B, we thought I had gallstones or I had pulled a muscle in chest area. I had been weeding and cleaning out closets on the same day. It was determined that I pulled something. They did some blood tests and an ultrasound to see if there were any stones.

But since this is a repeat event, I would definitely have it checked out.

Angie said...

AP, gallstone pain happens when gallstones in your gall bladder get in a position where they block the duct (or something like that), so while Advil and heat can make the pain lessen, time most often did, in my experience. i.e., eventually the stones shift and the pain dissipates. I battled gallstone pain for a year before I "gave in" and had the surgery. All surgery sucks, but gallstone surgery is really not that big a deal, comparatively speaking. Outpatient and only tiny incisions. You may get a festering belly button though, like BD did.

Avoiding fatty foods can stave off gallstone "attacks," but the only cure is surgery.

Welcome back, Corinne!

Lisa said...

Corinne, hi! Glad you're back. :-)

And I refuse to have gallstones. Period.

Anonymous said...

AP- SW's explanation is correct and, if it is indeed gallstones, you'll feel a million times better after a cholecystectomy.
As Sandy said, chronic pain that comes and goes fits gallstones better than a pulled muscle.

KaytieJ said...

Congrats Corinne on getting that paper done and have a great Spring Break! Hope you can take some time off and relax a bit.

T@iy@ said...

Hi everyone!

Anonymous said...

Thanks, Kaytie, AP, SW, Sandy and all for the welcome back! I've missed you all :)

OT - I'm obsessed with the 'Bilderberg group'. It's so intriguing.

KaytieJ said...

Bilderberg Group? A new Simms game?

Margo said...

AP - a friend at work is having similar hip pain - it turned out to be a bladder infection.

I had my gall bladder out a few years ago - no big deal and I LOVE the twilight shot they give you before the general anesthesia!

Anonymous said...

Hi Taiya & Margaret!

Kaytie - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilderberg_Group

I wonder what they tell each other. I am convinced some of the most important decisions made in this world are decided there - unofficially, of course.

It's truly fascinating!

Margo said...

I watched a show about the Bilderberg group a few weeks back. It was very interesting. And I agree with you Corinne .

T@iy@ said...

Very interesting, Corinne.

KaytieJ said...

Corinne - That is interesting! Would be fascinating to hear what they talk about.

Right? And I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist but in this case, it reeks of that.

Margaret - Do you by any chance remember what that show was called?

The Bilderberg attendees need to blog so we can weigh in on what we think.

Margo said...

I'm not a conspiracy theorist either but I know lots of stuff goes on that we know nothing about.

Margo said...

Corinne - I can't remember - I'll ask my hubs tonight. He's really into all that cloak and dagger stuff. He thinks the government keeps track of us by our cell phones...

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Hi there:

Ex-boyfriend was a conspiracy theorist so I know a little bit about Bilderburg Group and Bohemian Grove. For good beginning reading, check out "Them: Adventures with Extremists" by Jon Ronson. Discusses Ruby Ridge, Bilderburg, and other stuff, although the book itself is roughly 10 years old.

Anonymous said...

Taiya- Just stay here with us. Cleaning can wait ;)

Margaret - Is your husband related to my father? Lol. He is so into conspiracy theories, it's crazy.
Thanks btw.

Hey ladies - just now got power at work - some fuse in the power line went out - at 3:47 am and they finally got it back up and running at 11:00 - luckily it is a beautiful day and we had an outside meeting - now to catch up!

Margo said...

I think my hubs distrust comes from growing up and knowing people who worked for the govt - they would say their job was xyz and then when they retired it would come out what they really did.

kristin said...

hello?

anyone home?

Lisa said...

I'm here, Kristin. Trying to get a stupid program to work and getting frustrated.

How's work?

kristin said...

it's work - my sis is pissed but I think she will get over it.

It is beautiful outside and I so do NOT want to be here.

kristin said...

How are you?

kristin said...

what program? I hate that.

Sis's computer wouldn't start up after our power went back on. She's pissed about some other stuff too.

kristin said...

Okay ladies - question for you/ideas.

I'm thinking of starting a gardening project with LM. I rent - so I was thinking of doing some potted plants or something similar.

I am NOT a green thumb at all - I"m looking at some gardening forums but want to knowwhat your thoughts might be to make this fun for him.

I also do not have any shade in my back yard so I might have to construct something.

Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Anonymous said...

What did you want to grow? There are patio tomatoes that you can grow in a pot. Most annual flowers are full sun. Marigolds, petunias, geraniums. Herbs grow well in pots.

kristin said...

something that is hardy...that I can't kill or that will be really difficult for me to kill :)

Anonymous said...

You can grow strawberries in pots and hanging baskets.

Lisa said...

Kristin, it's nearly impossible to kill periwinkles, plus they're pretty. They do better in the ground but you can grow them in hanging pots, too. I second Sandy on the herbs, plus he'll have fun being able to taste them. Halapinos *grins* do pretty well in pots, too.

And it's 4Shared that I'm trying to figure out and failing at miserably. It's making me nuts because it appears so simple and I just can't figure that mother out.

kristin said...

Another random fact...which I think is odd, since they just had the science of kissing a few days ago:

"The mouth is full of bacteria. When two people kiss, they exchange between 10 million and 1 billion bacteria "

Lisa said...

Well, ewww.
Thanks, Kristin. Just another reason to not kiss anyone.

kristin said...

I think I am going to go to a garden place and see what I can come up with.

I have an "island" in the middle of my back yard - but it is so very dry - and I don't want to mulch it (or pay for the mulch) but it would be an excellent spot to plant things. There are a few bushes there.

I really want to put a border around it to keep the mulch in, but again - I don't want to pay for it b/c I am renting.

I think I want to do the hanging tomato plants and some other things - just stuff to do with LM.

I'm going to look into a butterfly garden.

kristin said...

right AP?

Lisa said...

Kristin, mulch is cheap here...I get huge bags of it for $2.50 so you might be able to mulch cheaper than you think. You can also get rolls of plastic edging that you hammer in pretty cheap. I'm not sure how big that spot is, but I'm betting $30 or so would get it edged and mulched. You'd get that much enjoyment out of it since you aren't planning to move soon, it doesn't sound like. Also, here's a site for any of you who like to plant - direct gardening.com - and they have very good prices. Their 1 cents sales are great and I've ordered from them before with no problems. You can usually find coupon codes for them on currentcodes.com, too.

Margo said...

Gardening is good for kids - there is a HUGE garden program at my daughter's school. Michelle Obama was so impressed she invited some of the kids to go see her garden and then she came to see ours. Non-vine vegetables are good in pots.

The bacteria in your mouth is why biting is so bad - your gooch is cleaner :)

Angie said...

I hate it when you're a dumbass too, AP. ;-)

Sigh, I've been incredibly unproductive today, even though I feel like I've stayed busy. Haven't been goofing off on the internet. But almost no time billed. Oy.

KaytieJ said...

AP - Glad you got it working. Groaning with ya. Drives me nuts when something simple doesn't work because I am too dumbass to figure it out. Humbling and exasperating.

KaytieJ said...

CK - Squeeze in that nap! Makes me tired just thinking of two jobs and a work out!!!

T@iy@ said...

Welcome back, Mulie! :)

Kristin- gardening with kids is so fun! If you go to a garden center anyway they will tell you what you can get that is good in full sun. There are a lot of things that are hard to kill! You could even do a tomato plant with LM. Things like petunias are easy to grow and they come back when you put water on them if they start to droop. If you wanted to go really easy there is probably a good starter kids kit you could get at the garden center. I used to bring pots when i babysat and we would decorate, put names on them, and then I would bring flowers for the kids to put in them. They got such a kick out of it. None of them ever cared if they died or got droopy. They just enjoyed it.

kristin said...

Great Idea Taiya - I'm going to get something that he can decorate the pot's with :)

CK - i sent you a response to your e-mail.

I am seriously disappointed in my hyacinths. I was so happy for them to come out, but I think they were stunted by the cold/snow the weekend before last. They were out of the ground, but hadn't bloomed yet and we were gone at the pool party so I couldn't cover them. :(

SW, do you often get stuck with work that won't be billed? And luckily for you, I'm not a dumbass very often.

Nilia said...

Hey Kaytie, any news on Shortround II?

Nilia said...

My husband's mother sometimes missed his birthday too. Sometimes she calls him on the wrong day and insists that's his birthday (only off by a day or 2, not wildly off). She's not demented, just argumentative and can't admit she's wrong.

KaytieJ said...

FT - I got a call Monday that Shortround II is still having some bowel issues and needs to be on meds, but he is retaining his weight that he gained here. Monday, I met up with them at their home, outside. Their house is horrific with mold. It was built wrong and they are going to have to redo it (and it is only 2 years old!). Until it is safe, they have to be evacuated. Since we are in rain country, very few insurance policies cover mold. This is going to be a financial devastation to them. I offered Shortround II to stay with us Spring Break since I am off, but they are doing ok with him at the motel. I miss him much, and know that he can run around here not on a leash, but they love him and I cannot interfere with that. Thank you for asking!

Nilia said...

Kaytie: that is awful about the mold! Our first sitter was also in a new house and mold was discovered about 2 years in. We took our baby out until she moved because he has a benign heart murmur which wasn't always benign but it was enough that I withdrew him. I guess mold isn't too common here because insurance covered it. The problem with the sitter's house was that when the builders built the house, the wood wasn't dried out or something? It was green? Am I making any sense?

KaytieJ said...

FT - You are making sense. And good for you to take your baby out!
In this case, the new "environmental thing" (to save energy and not use wood) is to build a house out of concrete blocks and fill in the holes with insulation. However, if the foundation is not done right, with all our rain, the moisture sucks up into the insulation and it ruins the entire house with mold!

kristin said...

going to bed ladies!

Thanks for all the kind words - just irritated.

Oh, and I looked at subs for the school district - they aren't accepting any new subs b/c they have over 1200 in their system.

Hi, I'm back.

Very excited because my friend from high school is going to tattoo me again!

It's going to be a tree on my arm, exploding into birds across my shoulder. I love that she uses my artwork (we were in art classes together in high school and college) and puts her touch on it.

Hopefully we can start this summer.

I spent hours on the phone with AT&T, got plates for my car, and purchased new paint for the baby's room because I needed to paint over the crack-baby pink color I painted a few days ago. Tomorrow it's off to St Louis (again). I got talked into coming in for Easter.

PJ said...

AP - I'm looking forward to Part 3. I would love to shoot holes in Part 2, but I am abstaining in order to preserve our on-line relationship.

No really, you write passionately and convincingly about much of it. I'm learning a lot. I just mistrust the data.

If you're right with your estimates, we can't afford it. Like we can't afford the wars in Afghanistan or Iraq.

(P.S. We didn't get to vote on the war or NCLB - why would we get to vote on health care bill?)

Muliebrity said...

I guess I will have to go to bed without knowing if Shortround has a name.

CK< I swear to you that you can poke holes anywhere you like and it's only going to make me think more of you. :-) The newest one is up now, by the way.

As for the wars, the votes, I could not agree more. It disgusts me. We can't afford those either and, imo, the only war we ever should have been involved in anyway was WWII, and only against Japan, at that.

Lisa said...

Mulie, that's wonderful news about your husband! Are things going better there?
