HI everyone!

Lisa said...

Hi, Jeanette!

Melissa said...

Hey, Jeanette. Happy Birthday to your little girl!

Angie said...

Hi Jeanette! AP, the Tetris God video cracked me up. And made me remember why I love you, even though your religions is whack. Thanks for that!

Shannon said...

Hi jeanette....

kristin said...

Hey Jeanette!

Lisa said...

Jeanette, happy birthday to her from me, too!

And hmph, SW! There's nothing wrong with my religion. You're just jealous.

Jeanette said...

Aww, thanks girls. She is 2 and my heart is breaking. I've had a "baby" to take care of for the last 3 years. Now all I have is stinkin toddlers! I put a video up on my blog with pictures from her last 2 years if anyone wants to check it out. I have watched it 20 times today and it makes me tear up.

Shannon said...

OH poor momma :( why are those milestones always so hard to handle? I know I have always looked at them as a double edged sword....then suddenly they are having the big 18 and you realize that for the most part your job is now finished :(

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Morning all. I have now been up since yesterday morning, with some short catnaps in between.

RE: IVF...I have conflicting ideas. I don't begrudge anyone doing it, but I DO have issue with people who will carry 6 fetuses at a time, risking their health because "it's against God's will" to abort one of the fetuses. Well, if you look at it that way, it wasn't God's will for you to give birth in the first place...why is going against God's plan one way okay, but not another way. I mean, if someone said "Which would I choose? I can't make that decision because I would feel guilty and wonder what could have been, etc." I'd say, well, okay. It's the picking and choosing which rule you want to follow that bugs me.

If someone wants to get IVF, more power to them. However, there's also tons of children out there who need good adoptive homes, KWIM?

Celine Dion just did an article in People where she talks about the heartbreak of her four failed IVF treatments. Her husband said in the article that they weren't interested in adoption. All that money, and they are too good to adopt? Fucking pisses me off.

::swan dive off soapbox::

Angie said...

BD, why aren't you sleeping?

You make a good point about the multiple fetuses.

Celine Dion sucks on many levels.

Lisa said...

"Celine Dion just did an article in People where she talks about the heartbreak of her four failed IVF treatments. Her husband said in the article that they weren't interested in adoption. All that money, and they are too good to adopt? Fucking pisses me off."

Seriously, how incredibly arrogant and selfish is this? Only their own will be good enough for them? It disgusts me. It really does. That's not about wanting a child to love at all.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

SW:

Sometimes I just don't sleep. It's like my body goes into overdrive because I know I have stuff to do, and I take the quiet time at night to do it. I'll probably crash around 7 or 8 p.m. tonight.

Angie said...

What did you get accomplished last night, BD? I wish I were like Martha Stewart, and could get by on 3-4 hours of sleep. I need 8 to not be grumpy.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

I graded a lot of papers, wrote up a new syllabus, cleaned the kitchen and did several loads of laundry. It's hard to do that M. is clinging to my leg like a pogo stick, or running across the wet kitchen floor, or knocking the laundry over.

Usually on nights like that, I don't even realize how late it has become until about 2 or 3, and then I just figure that if I get two hours of sleep, I'd just be more tired than if I stayed up. So I caffeinate and sally forth. :)

Angie said...

"Caffeinate and sally forth." I like that. Sounds like something a Daisy would do.

KaytieJ said...

"Caffeinate and sally forth."
My new mantra. Thank you BD. Fits perfectly with working night shifts.

New to blogging...I thought everyone had logged off. I was camped out in the previous post twiddling my fingers.

On the other side of celebrity adoption, it annoys me to no end the celebrities that adopt multiple kids from all over the world as if they were puppies.

Lisa said...

Now, see, I don't mind when celebrities adopt kids. So many come from orphanages and I figure even if raised by nannies, it's still a better life for them.

Angie said...

Ya know, Kay, I get that it's annoying for celebrities to adopt kids from all over. But I can't help but think the kids are better off. The kids they are adopting are orphans who nobody wants or loves, and now they now seem to be loved and cared for. (Even if it's more by a nanny than their famous parents.)

Angie said...

See, AP, you're not *always wrong! Sometimes you agree with me!

Lisa said...

A-hem.
I said it first, SW. You agreed with me.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

I just ate an epic amount of cheddar cheese, a move I think I will live to regret.

Lisa said...

There may be a second move out of it though. ;-)

KaytieJ said...

I agree with you on that. Their lives are better and I do hope they are loved.

Lisa said...

I do admit I hate that it's become trendy to adopt kids from all over. Parenting ought never be a trend or fad.

Speaking of which, sort of, MckGoofball has a new post up. We are asked to not applaud her so hold yourselves back from that.

(Kay, here's her blog - http://www.mycharmingkids.net)

KaytieJ said...

BD: I'm with ya. Ate 1/2 a box of triscuits while sitting at that other post. We should have shared. Please note I said should HAVE :-D

Lisa said...

Is everyone over at MWoP or something? I'm being forced to get up and have a life here, y'all.

kristin said...

Hey AP - I am here, trying not to fall asleep. :)

So you never answered my question earlier - how does the house smell?

Lisa said...

Oh, I'm sorry! It smells really good...I've got French Kiss going and it's another roll-in-it scent! Jake snatched the Thunderstorm one and has it going in his room now, says he really likes it a lot. Thank you again. :-))

KaytieJ said...

I was visiting that McMania blog. WTF? She left her small children, one ill, to go to Kenya? And all that posting about being worried about the fetus' health? Applaud? More like smack some common sense into her. I am still shaking my head.

kristin said...

I was going to ask how Jake liked it.

They didn't have a lot of scents to choose from on the travel tin, so I picked the one I have in my car and I love it!

I'm really glad you like it!

kristin said...

LOL @ Kaytie - so true, so sad but so true!

AP-

I think God created the world. Not in a Genesis sort of way but in a Big Bang sort of way. It all came to be because He willed it.
But, then, He let things be. Sure, our world is ruled by physics, chemistry and biology. However, none of them are God Himself.

I believe God to be a superior entity (not really anthropomorphic per se) who has decided to let the rules of nature and men be overriding.

I don't want to turn all Jean-Jacques Rousseau on you but what man becomes, what he decides to do, the fact that he feels it's right to go to war or to defy the rules of nature by allowing, for example, a woman carry 6 fetuses is all shaped by society and the inner need for power that man has.

I do not believe it pleases God. I do not think He agrees with it BUT He deliberately let man have free-will so there is nothing He can do.

(I hope this makes sense. It's my sis's b-day and I had a - ahem - little wine tonight. ;-) )

Anonymous said...

KaytieJ- Agree. Mck needs common sense. Don't see that happening anytime soon, though.

Bd- I agree with everything you said re:IVF (and Celine Dion is annoying).

Robin in Montana said...

:::Sallying into the party late::::

(Yes, I shamelessly stole that word from BD)

Hi Kay!

I didn't read anything on the last thread about IVF and I don't feel terribly strongly one way or the other about it, so I ... got nothin'.

Corinne - Now you can add alcoholic to your list of bad personality traits along with being a daisy-sniffing man-hater and whatever all else. Happy b-day to your little sister! :-D

Okay, I'm off to schlep around this little town and see what kind of trouble I can incite the locals to. I need a new shirt to wear to the basketball game tonight since I watched Wife Swap this morning and one of the husbands said that men don't really think (even if they say it) that sweatshirts and jeans are that sexy. Which. Fuck him. But anyway. I'm going to look for a shirt. lol.

Will check in later.

KaytieJ said...

Corrine: Beautifully stated and I agree with you.
You are very eloquent. I would have said, "God started it and Man will finish it"

Anonymous said...

Hi RiM- Yep. I'm an alcoholic, daisy snorting, no-life/low-life bully. Yay me!

Anonymous said...

KaytieJ- "God started it and Man will finish it"

Perfectly sums up what I think! :)

kristin said...

lol RiM!

Hope you are feeling better!

When do you think you will hear something on the house?

Anonymous said...

RiM- I meant to say that I hope things work out with the house!

Lovely ladies, I have to log off again. I'll try to BBL but, if not, see you tomorrow!

Robin in Montana said...

I'm not sure about the house. I want to call her today, but I'll probably try to force myself to wait until tomorrow. I'm not really even sure what the demand is for rentals around here, so I have no idea if I'm the only applicant or one of a bunch.

kristin said...

but Corinne - you may not be able to hang out with us low lifes much longer since you are trying to *better yourself through school - same with you Shannon! :)

kristin said...

and i killed it :)

What are everyone's plans for this weekend?

Anonymous said...

Hey Ladies.

Kristin, I will be enjoying the 50 degree weather we will be having here in Chicago. Don't know what I'll be doing but I will be outside airing the winter funk off me. lol

Anonymous said...

...and I killed it with my funk.

::shamefully taking funky self to the corner::

kristin said...

I'm still here. Calling masonry contractors - Oh joy!

kristin said...

Fun Sandy!

High of 70 here! I think I will take LM to the park or something, just run and have fun - or maybe try to teach him how to fish. That would be fun. Need to find out where I can get worms!

KaytieJ said...

Enjoying an evening to myself :-D DH in Denver and packing my son up now for his trip to compete in the National Qualification with his Speech and Debate team.

kristin said...

Very cool Kaytie!

Robin in Montana said...

Kristin - I don't know about there, but here you can buy worms at pretty much every gas station and sporting goods stores, even at Walmart. Do you have poles and all that junk? Fishing sounds fun -- Kelly is off with Hannah today at a school-sponsored fishing trip and the weather is *beautiful. I am jealous.

I have no grand plans for the weekend. My girls are with their dad, and we will have Kelly's girls tomorrow for the day, and who knows what we'll do on Sunday. We may go to Kalispell and buy groceries -- whee!

Lindsay said...

Hi! Hope everyone is well!

I want 70* weather. Bad.

We have 4 football games and a terrible party to attend tomorrow and Sunday I get to go see "Chicago" starring John O'Hurley!!! I am *sooo excited! Wahoo!

kristin said...

Hi Lindsay!

Football? ::ears perk!

Lindsay said...

Oh, yes. Don't get too excited Kristin! Grant (my oldest) plays in an arena football league and we have a jamboree tomorrow. 4 games. And the jamborees are always outside for some reason. Last year it was 4 football games in the snow. This year the weather is more promising :) I far better like the regular season in the fall when he plays, but arena is growing on me.

kristin said...

I LOVE LOVE me some football!

Lindsay said...

Just wait until LM plays. I do like watching them play and when they learn a new thing. And watching them have fun doing it, but I swear it's got to be like "Friday Night Lights" up here. The kids practice 3 nights a week. Games on Saturdays. Football is a way of life around here. I love football, but swore it would never run our lives. I was wrong :)

kristin said...

I'm in Texas, football is life :)

They used to have a show - 3 a days - about Texas football!

I love football, tried out for the Pro woman's team and used to play competitive flag. I have about 5 footballs in my house. I won't shove it down his throat but it will be encouraged.

He likes to kick (like a punter) :)

Lindsay said...

That's too cute! I've never played - flag I'd do okay with, but I'm afraid of getting hit. There - I said it - I'm a wuss. It's quite an obsession at our house. Even Chloe asks when she can start to play!

kristin said...

ha ha! You are not a wuss!

I was scared of some of those women - some should have been gender tested :)

Lisa said...

*cries*

Corinne out-God-geeked me.

Corinne, give me a bit to put my smart hat on and think about what you said up there, please.

By the way, the lemon milk chicken is finally in the oven. I shall give a report later.

Lisa said...

Football? Will break fingernails and cause one to get dirty. It is evil. I am, however, rather interested in women who might need gender tested. ;-)

kristin said...

yes, AP - I was nicknamed the "breeder" on the team.

I really enjoyed playing but some of the girls scared me a bit.

KaytieJ said...

AP
:::Handing you a hanky and readjusting your smart hat::: Fully confident in your God-Geek abilities :-D And here you were creating kitchen magic. I was worried you passed out from all that twirling .

Lisa said...

The breeder? Well, now, that's pretty special!

Hey, y'all want a chuckle? Check sitememter at the number of asses being hidden around here today. :-D I swear, I just don't get it...it's like saying "I can't stand you but I want to peep in your windows and see what you're doing." That's actually rather...disturbed.

Lisa said...

Kay, you and I have twirled together for years and neither of us have passed out yet!

Do you know how sitememter works and that you can check ours here whenever you want? It's down at the bottom of the page and the "unknowns" are people using proxy servers to hide their IP when they visit. Interesting, no?

KaytieJ said...

Kristin
I am rolling, had not thought of it from that angle!

KaytieJ said...

:::waving to all the Daisy wannabes::: Agree with ya, creepy. Maybe they are "pushing daisies"

kristin said...

:)

So sneaky! WTF eva'!

I mean who really cares, we aren't plotting to take over the world or saying hateful things about anyone...well okay, maybe some snarky remarks about a few, but really - get over it!

kristin said...

Kaytie - I like you! You are gonna fit in well! I can see why AP considers you a friend.

kristin said...

looks like all the asses left AP :(

kristin said...

oopsie daisy, did i say that?

Lisa said...

Yes, you did say that. You know, I get just wanting to lurk. I've done that myself and I think a lot of us do it. But to hide yourself? Why? Who cares if you come and read?

Ah, well. People are odd ducks.

Angie said...

AP said: "I just don't get it...it's like saying "I can't stand you but I want to peep in your windows and see what you're doing." That's actually rather...disturbed."

Oh, come on, AP! That's exactly what we do with JM! And by "we," I mean you losers who aren't in JM/RV sobriety with me. :-D

Angie said...

Nevermind, you didn't mean lurkers, you meant hiders. Point AP.

KaytieJ said...

Why thank you Krisin! Have to admit I was worried with her invite to low-life/no-life snarky blog. Had to run out to the porch to get my muck boots on before I went to the site. And when I got here, what do I see? The most adorable baby! What do I read? Mouth watering recipes, eclectic humor, common sense baby raising, non bible thumping intelligent posts regarding God! I tossed my muck boots out the door and joined in! Glad to be here :-D

kristin said...

Well we are happy you are here!

Angie said...

No fair having a positive impression of us, Kay. We are hateful mean-spirited badasses! The adorable baby pic was an aberration. We *never have adorable baby pictures here! And there is no god, despite what AP and Corinne say. Oh, and everybody hates their husbands here too. Hmph.

Lisa said...

And Jews. Don't forget the Jews.

SW, are you trying to pick a fight with me or something?

KaytieJ said...

SW
That makes it all the better :-D

kristin said...

I love dealing with a$$hole customers on a friday. I told our construction manager to tell him he needs to get laid or something.

KaytieJ said...

AP-
Now that part I don't like, but you know that and love me anyway.

Anonymous said...

I can still see IP's on those that say hidden or unknown. I don't now who they all are, but it is a bit creepy and stalkerish.

Lisa said...

What part don't you like? Not that I don't love you no matter what it is but I'm confused now.

kristin said...

Hey christy - I'm here and I own my shit!

Anonymous said...

TGIF Kristin!

PJ said...

Hi everyone! Welcome KatieJ!

::doing the weekend dance::

kristin said...

HEY CK!

Happy Friday!

Angie said...

Oh, and Bella? Is getting tattoo sleeves soon. She's really freaking scary. And Shannon? Her husband is such a badass he has hooks in his back and hangs from the ceiling. Cute babies, my ass. ;-)

AP, I'm not really trying to pick a fight. Just a tish grumpy still. Gonna give that up and do the weekend dance with CK! Hi CK!

Angie said...

CK, there was some interesting God talk earlier, did you see it?

KaytieJ said...

Hello CK! :::joining the weekend dance::: Oh damn...while dancing my fax machine garbled my contract it was sending. Ugh!

kristin said...

ugggg Kaytie!

PJ said...

In doing some looking for some words to plagarize in order to describe my thoughts on "shame", I find this:

You know if you subscribe to comments you don't have to worry about hiding your ass.
You can lurk without actually being here.

kristin said...

very true Jill, very true!

How are you?

How is your little guy?

KaytieJ said...

Can't phase my joy to be here SW! Tattoos, body hooks...hell, I'm an ICU nurse. I've seen tatoos and piercings in places there should be none! Have to admit the cat barf talk about did me in, though :-D

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Hi all.

2010 sucks.

Angie said...

Jill! It's great to see you here!

kristin said...

Oh no BD - why?

PJ said...

SW - I did see it, and my eyes lit up.

I am very much on the same page as Corinne. After all, I'm her American mother.

I think God/creator/mother/father/maker (whatever - I hate giving something that is beyond our little minds a name) created the natural world, and it's quite amazing how it functions. Systems, you know.

She's not pressing buttons to launch earthquakes, or sprinkling cancer cells into somebody's body, or yanking sick babies out of peoples arms cause she needed them more in heaven (or some shit like that).

Free will and all too - she didn't make us puppets.

Things happen as a result of the choices we make, or the choices others make for us, or just because physics and nature operate a certain way. If a car careens out of control, physics controls how and where the car moves.

If there is a crazh, biological systems step in and determine if someone in the car survives.

God gives humans brains and thinking to find solutions to the consequences of the natural world. But we haven't discovered them all, and for some, there aren't solutions.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

You mean in addition to surgeries, the economy, sick kids pooping milk and general malaise?

My husband is facing an almost guaranteed layoff.
Hopefully he can transfer into another department before his position is eliminated, but I'm freaked he won't. If he DOES transition, he will have to go to training for 2 straight months...in Dallas. And then will have to travel. A lot.

kristin said...

and let me just add...how funny I do think it is that people are "hiding" their IP addresses, I think I was accused of that but I was just subscribing to comments - just as Jill mentioned.

Just ironic!

back to your regularly scheduled program.

PJ said...

crazh = crash

kristin said...

BD - sorry! That sucks, I hope he gets the transfer. What kind of work does he do? :(

Anonymous said...

TGIF ladies.

BD, sorry to hear about Mr. BD. Scary, unpredictable, and sucky all at the same time.

I'm thinking about taking a nipper nap before dinner, I'm bushed.

kristin said...

Hey Bella! Enjoy the nap!

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Telecommunications; he directs maintenance of cell sites, upgrades to software, etc. That's why he works at night; all the kinks have to be worked out at low call volume time. He'd have to travel as far as New Mexico (not sure how far north)for extended periods of time.

Anonymous said...

Great things list:

1. Sushi tonight with friends.

2. 50 degrees here this weekend!

3. Two sweet days of sleeping in are ahead.

kristin said...

alright ladies, I'm out.

BD - can he get hired at another company?

I'll see you guys later!

Jennifer-Lynn said...

And, as much as I don't want him gone for weeks at a time (even with his faults, he's a phenomenal dad), We need him to get this job.

KaytieJ said...

BD
That does suck. I am so sorry. My dh was laid off for a year and then had to go back east for a couple years for a job. It was really hard. Somehow we made it. You have every right to be freaked. Don't give up hope, though.

PJ said...

BD - uncertainty sucks.

Angie said...

BD, that super sucks. This economy is so freaking depressing. I hope there is an unexpected reprieve.

CK, your version (and Corinne's version) of god is interesting. What is the function of god after creation then?

PJ said...

To continue my awkwardly placed comments on things spiritual - I believe God rages with us about suffering, mourns with us in our losses, hurts with us when we hurt. Not one who causes injustice and heartache, but one who will hang out with us when we're broken and lost. With invisible God arms wrapped around us.

Angie said...

I'm so glad you get some warmer weather, Bella! Enjoy your sushi!

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Kristin, he could, if anyone was hiring. :)

It will be all right. It just seems that something improves, and then we get hit with something else that knocks the wind out of us. KWIM?

PJ said...

God is about all things loving and kind - and wants to be in a relationship with us so we can learn about all things loving and kind.

God can't be here on earth in physical form - for those who are in touch with the sacred, and even those who aren't, God can be present to others, through humans.

PJ said...

I guess I see God as having this hope for earth and for people. To be an amazing place to be connected with each other, and building up rather than tearing down.

And trying to teach us how to make that happen.

Angie said...

Things are especially tough in CA. Ugh, BD.

Angie said...

It's a nice idea, CK. But why does there need to be a god to have love and kindness, building up rather than tearing down, etc.? Just like there can be bad and evil without a devil, there can be good and love without a god.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

In better news, A. and I just made some killer strawberry shortcakes.

PJ said...

::not responding to social clues - scaring those lurking::

I'll pick this up later at a more appropriate time.

Angie said...

Jarring topic transition: I get to help a strip club with a cybersquatting dispute - how awesome is that?

Jennifer-Lynn said...

After yesterday's two snake adventure, I am morbidly eager to see what Alice brings home next.

Angie said...

CK, you are not scaring. Your thoughts on god are really lovely.

PJ said...

More later, SW - really want to respond but I'm saving it.

PJ said...

I'll tweet some hints.

Angie said...

Strawberry shortcakes rule. I'll be making a strawberry cake this weekend for my secretary's birthday, which is Monday. Easy (but good) recipe, with box mix and you add jello and frozen strawberries.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

SW: That's pretty awesome.

CK: Why did you stop? I found your posts thought-provoking. I just have hit peak exhaustion and can only write about things directly in my line of vision, like strawberry shortcakes and my cat.

Angie said...

LOL CK on tweeting hints! You'd better be kidding! LOL

PJ said...

I want a burger, fries and a chocolate shake for dinner. Gonna try to talk hubby into my making salmon tomorrow night instead of tonight.

Angie said...

Karen still hasn't reported on her job situation yet, has she? Karen, come see us!!

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Carlsbad, which is just south of here, is known for strawberries. They were on sale, 2 lbs. for $3. I bought three pounds; one is in the fridge, one is going in the freezer for when they are out of season, and one became delicious dessert.

Actually, A. and I already had our dessert, so I guess it's M. and Mr. BD's dessert.

Angie said...

A burger, fries and shake sounds fantastic, CK. Where are you going to get that?

Angie said...

My sister in Santa Ana gets great strawberries. You Californians are lucky in the strawberry dept.

Jennifer-Lynn said...

Alice came home empty...mouthed? Empty pawed? What's the feline equivalent of coming home empty handed?

Angie said...

Dunno, BD. My cats are inside cats. They only very seldom luck into an unlucky stray field mouse who finds its way inside.

Angie said...

"They only very seldom luck into an unlucky stray field mouse who finds its way inside."

This is a very awkwardly written sentence. BD, what do you say? C-? Or worse?

PJ said...

Okay - but you're keeping me from my work.

SW - perhaps unconventional, but I believe love (and not the ooey gooey romantic only love) is God.

There are many people who are kind, caring, thoughtful, compassionate, who don't profess a belief or faith in a God. But, I think that those qualities in them ARE God.

We are all capable of that - we have the potential to know and show love. We also have the potential to be selfish, cruel, unkind. So to me it doesn't matter if you name it as such or not. God exists in love and care and respect.

PJ said...

We have a Red Robin very close - perhaps if I can find an on-line coupon?

PJ said...

Otherwise, Wendy's (cheap-o)

Angie said...

I love Red Robin, CK! Their guacamole burgers are awesome. And their fries and shakes? Now I'm getting hungry! But I love a Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich too, so it's all good.

PJ said...

If we did Wendy's I'd have to skip the fries. Not good there.

Angie said...

CK, my innate selfishness and self-centeredness would never let me "buy" this:

"There are many people who are kind, caring, thoughtful, compassionate, who don't profess a belief or faith in a God. But, I think that those qualities in them ARE God."

I think when I'm good (which I am every once in a while), selfless (cough rarely cough), or compassionate (at least annually, during the Labor Day Telethon) I think it's ME, and I give ME the credit for that, not some nebulous "god."

It's not my nature to be those things. By nature, I'm selfish, crabby, lazy, etc. When my "better angels" (for want of a better term) prevail, I give credit to the girl in the snexy peter pan collar. And maybe a little bit of credit to the truly good people who shame me into occasional good behavior. But no credit goes to some invisible unprovable force for good, 'cause I just don't believe in that.

Angie said...

Agreed re Wendy's fries.

Angie said...

I took piano lessons from the time I was five (which is way too young) until I was 13 or 14. My Mom used to make me, and my older brother and sister, who were also in lessons, practice 30 minutes a day, each. If we missed practice one day, we'd have to practice an hour the next day. No practice time was forgiven, ever. That's a crazy long time for a five year old to practice the piano, right?

Well, as a result, our piano teacher thought we were super talented. We weren't; we just had a Mommy Dearest beating us with wire hangers (figuratively).

When I was 13, with a different teacher, and Mom busy because she was working outside the home so she didn't monitor my practice anymore, my teacher got frustrated because I wasn't practicing. She said I was squandering my God-given talent. That pissed me off, and I managed to quit lessons altogether shortly thereafter. My talent didn't come from God. It came from years of half-hour sessions at the battered keyboard in our moldy basement.

I don't give the gods any blame when things go bad, and I don't give them any credit when things go well. I know that's not for everybody, but it works for me.

Angie said...

And, I ran everybody off. So I'm going home. Or maybe to Wendy's!

PJ said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Angie said...

Okay, CK is still with me.

But why is it *bigger than us, CK? Why isn't it just *us?

Angie said...

What'd you remove, CK? You know we're paranoid folks here! :-)

PJ said...

I had the damn conflicting edit post, and it posted twice.

PJ said...

Cause it's hard to be loving and good and kind. Cause we're imperfect human beings. And our parents made mistakes with us. And we are battered and damaged.

We have the deck stacked against us, being nurtured (or not) by other imperfect human beings who were messed up by those who raised them. ::enter the shame question::

And people get selfish and greedy and scared, and grab and take and hurt, to protect themselves.

But, if we believe we're loved, and valued, in spite of all of not getting our needs met by humans, perhaps we can not act out of a place of hurt or protection, but a place of giving.

I'm doing a lousy job of explaining it - and I'm not just saying this cause SW is disagreeing. That's probably where we'll end up. But I do want to be able to express it. I'm gonna try to find some eloquent writers who are better with words.

No Red Robin coupons - so Wendy's it is.

Off to home to pick up husband - BBL.

(Lurkers may all come out of hiding)

I guess my whole God thing isn't solely based on Christianity - they're some Buddhism in there too.

Bye.

You are both doing an eloquent job, CK and SW.

PJ said...

That's where the "God" idea comes in. It's gotta be bigger than us, because *we (humans) mess it up.

Strip club and cybersquatting will definitely get the lurkers from lurking.

My roast was still dry, I think I'm giving up on the roast. :(

Evening all! Isn't the sun amazing? I can't believe it was almost 60 here today. I hope the weekend is as nice.

Muliebrity said...

I have lots of links to look at from the last thread.

kristin said...

Hi ya Mulie!

Good Stuff! Is this chick for real? Wrong spelling because she types 'to' fast. This is why I love the internets.

OMG Mulie, is that woman for real??? An ode to MckMama, Jeebus.

Nilia said...

Hi Taiya, SW, AP, Bella, BD, Kristin, the new Kay, CK, did I miss anyone??

PJ said...

Hey SW,
Just want to clarify something - I wrote that we were disagreeing. Bad choice of words - for me this isn't about agreeing or disagreeing. It's about having the conversation and asking the questions.

Despite what my words implied, I just like talking about this stuff. And hearing what other people think. And trying to articulate what I think - but not to prove it's right or wrong. Cause there isn't a right or wrong about spiritual stuff. But I try to explain where I'm at.

I learn a lot from what many of you have to say.

Good questions, and no answers that are universal, necessarily.

There once was a momma named Mck...

PJ said...

With a cute little son who'd been sick...

kristin said...

I can only see this ending badly CK!

Nilia said...

CK: let me know when the pin arrives!

kristin said...

Hi FT! Off to go play cars!

Nilia said...

CK: that's a limerick, silly!

Nilia said...

And sorry, but all my limerick attempts turn raunchy so I am just not going to help you here.

Angie said...

Kristin, I'm sorry your roast was dry. You're buy chuck roasts, right?

CK, you "inspired" me to drive through Wendy's and get a frosty shake and a spicy chicken sandwich. Both were delicious!

kristin said...

Yes SW! chuck roast!

Angie said...

CK, I like the conversations and questions too! And I AM disagreeing! :-)

PJ said...

FT,
Mine too - I have the last line - something about a small dick.

Angie said...

Then I don't know what's going on, Kristin. Maybe Texas chuck roasts are dryer than Alabama chuck roasts!

PJ said...

SW - we ended up at McD's (hides her head in shame, AP).

I really wanted good fries. And fountain Coke.

Nilia said...

Mine rhymed with "mass". Might have had the word ass, I can't rightly say.

::looking demure::

PJ said...

::giggling and giddy in corner about her pin being in the mail::

PJ said...

Disagree away, SW. You are shameful.

Angie said...

Well, AP said we need more shame. Or something like that...

PJ said...

Yup. I'm trying to include versions of the word shame as often as possible today.

T@iy@ said...

Hi FT! Computer difficulties, so I had to catch up.

Nilia said...

SW: My chuck roast let out tonnes of fat and was very soft and juicy. I gotta watch the fat though (cholesterol) so next time I'm going to try a leaner cut. This would work with other spices too, right? I'm thinking of simmering paprika, chopped garlic, chopped onion, bay leaf, white wine, fresh parsley, pouring over the leaner roast and then High for 4 hours? Sound right?

Nilia said...

Ooh and olive oil.

Angie said...

FT, you may regret trying a leaner cut if you are slow cooking. Slow cooking works best on fatty meat. I cooked a lean roast slow once and it came out like shoe leather. I would do some research on that first before I tried it, if I were you.

BD, help me out here. You're the real chef.

kristin said...

I am going to fix myself a drink! I haven't had a drink in quite awhile.

Lm just jumped on my bad hip - ouch!

Is anyone into genealogy? It really interests me.

kristin said...

I'm thinking that I may be cooking the roast too long. I turn it on at 7:15 and don't get home until 5:30, do you think that could be it?

Anonymous said...

Good evening ladies. Lurky Lu from Chicago here. LOL

kristin said...

Hey Sandy!

Anonymous said...

Hey Kristin, just wanted to be an "accounted for" lurker, lol. I'm using my old laptop and it is s.l.o.w.

kristin said...

That sucks Sandy! Well thanks for coming out of lurkdom!

Angie said...

Kristin, if you had it on low, that's not too long.

kristin said...

I had it on low. I just don't know.

SW - did you ever watch Parenthood?

Nilia said...

SW: Really? But I really have to watch my cholesterol. It's all genetic since I hardly eat any meat at all (so little in fact that I take Vitamin B12 supplements) and my cholesterol is still through the roof. I guess keep some fat in and drain but not as much fat as a chuck roast.

Kristin I think someone said a while ago it was 4 hours on high or 8 on low? Am I crazy or did that really happen?

kristin said...

is anyone watching - who do you think you are? Sarah Jessica Parker is on, pretty interesting.

kristin said...

No, that's right FT but mine are always so damn dry...they fall apart but just dry.

PJ said...

Kristin - we have it on, but I'm catching up on MWoP.

I see Bec, and Sue, and Gayle over there. I'm wondering if there is a new rule at SIP that says if you post/read on SIP, you're not allowed to post here. Otherwise I think we'd be hearing from some of them.

Does anybody know?

PJ said...

One very good, recent link on MWoP to the blog of a woman who was at Blissdom. About how all the women there were talking about tricks to make their blogs money makers.

I'm gonna grab it and paste it here.
