Believe it or not, I actually enjoyed the chiggers discussion yesterday, even if the thought of insects and parasites burrowing under my skin makes me want to throw up.
Anyways, it made me remember something one of my professor said when I was still a pre-med. He told us that the number of scabies cases had been growing exponentially in the past few years (in Western Europe, anyways) because people tend to travel much more to exotic destinations and they come back with scabies.Yuck.
Eating my breakfast and thinking about scabies - nice!
It is still raining. The other two robin eggs have not hatched but the chicks have almost doubled in size. They are so fuzzy - it's hard not to pick them up. New pic on my blog.
Good morning. Jill, if tv is your worst vice, you're in better shape than most of us.
I just watched the Today show with a segment about bras. They had ones with the separate cups so you can build your ow. I thought someone here was just inventing that idea the other day. I went back to look, but didn't find it. Very clever, though.
Scabies, grubs, chiggers, turkey vultures. This *is a vile group.
Deb, would't you think there would have been a disaster plan engineered and in place so this could have been stopped at once? If they built a system that could go unchecked like this, the people in charge need to be prosecuted.
RF - It makes me sick, really. It is disgusting to me that a company can be so ill-prepared in a disaster. It makes you wonder. But I'll bet they posted profits, and big ones for themselves.
Still pregnant! Need to get my ass in gear, because my SIL and her adult daughter are visiting us tomorrow and staying through Sunday. Hubby hasn't seen his sister in probably close to 25+ years and he's going to be 34 this year.
What I don't understand about the oil spill is that it seems as though BP never even thought it might happen.
There are many oil platforms in the North Sea and they all have a sort of safety system (don't really know what it's called), so that if there's a leak, big or small, it will be quickly sealed off. That system costs, I think, 500,000euros/platform. Compared to what this mess is going to cost to society, it's nothing.
Corinne/RF - This was allegedly caused by a methane gas bubble. I would have to think, that being in that business, you would have knowledge of every scenario possible. A catastrophic plan. Of course, no one *plans on it actually happening, but I would think you would have to know it is a *possibility, and have a catastrophic emergency plan in place.
One of my takes on the oil spill and the WV miners that were recently killed is, that we, the energy consuming mass, need to recognize our part in these catastrophes. Until we curb our consumption of these products, these accidents will continue to happen.
I just think the reasons that safety standards appear lax if because these companies are literally trying to keep up with demand. Of course, it's about making money too, but until society accepts their role in this energy game, things will not change.
Morning ladies! If I could ask a favor of you, could you please say a little prayer or send good thoughts for my dad. He's having an angioplasty to open the artery to his kidney. After our experience last summer, I am scared to death.
I have not seen any reports, on the miners or the oil spill, explaining to the public that our massive consumption is as much to blame for these accidents, as the people in charge.
I do agree with your about our massive consumption. With the economic disaster we all just went through, it really opened my eyes as to how "wasteful" just my family alone is.
The oil spill is horrible, just horrible. How can you run a business and not have a worst case scenario plan? I suppose ignorance is bliss when you wallet is fat. Makes me crazy!
::stepping up on liberal soapbox:: I agree with everything you guys have said, and I put a lot of the blame on conservatives who seem to really believe that the free market will take care of everything and that government intervention is bad. Sometimes society isn't ready to make a necessary change, like the civil rights movement in the south, and it takes the government cramming the right thing down people's throats as necessary.
Did you guys hear about Brit Hume on Fox News saying "Where's the oil?" trying to downplay the scope of the crisis? Wasn't it Rush Limbaugh who said the oil was like chocolate milk and would dissipate like chocolate milk? When you've got one of the major parties in the US arguing against any progressive energy party and acting as if fossil fuels are inexhaustible and letting big companies police themselves, it's no surprise to me when things like this happen.
::stepping off liberal soapbox, but reserving the right to get back on::
SW - Of course there will be finger pointing, no one wants to take responsibility.
I do not know enough about the politics to get into a discussion, but I know everyone has to live in the same world and *everyone, no matter which party, better start being held accountable, or there will be no world to live in.
SW it is amazing how the spin gets put on things isnt it? From one side it is nothing more then what your car might leave when parked, on the other side the entire coast is saturated in oil....somewhere in the middle lies the truth.
About the Fox News thing, I don't get any of the cable news channels and listen mostly to NPR. I read that compared to some of the bigger spills, this one is relatively small.
Still pregnant, too. Been doing a lot of gardening, cleaning, etc.
I read somewhere that the oil spill hasn't actually hit any of the beaches or coasts like they were predicting. Is that true? I don't remember where I read it, and am not retaining much of anything these days. I am trying to stay away from the news because I can't keep track of everything with this pregnancy brain. I can't wait until I get at least a few of my brain cells back. :)
Well, I am going to go nap now, as I am exhausted. :) Hope everyone is doing well!
My dad's procedure was a failure. The blockage is too bad. They are talking surgery. My dad has to stay at the hospital for the next 6 hours to be watched and then he can come home. They are talking to a vascular guy now.
SW - I agree with everything you said. There are major issues in today's society and they can only be overcome if we accept to acknowledge we have been doing things wrong for a while.

LOL absolutely makes it healthy if it is homemade with fresh flour :)
We did that last night too making french bread because I just couldnt see spending like 3 bucks on 2 loaves when I have all the stuff right here to make it.
Shannon, if you get a chance would you post your french bread recipe. I have one but it always comes out really chewy on the inside. We still like it though. Thanks.
3 Cups flour 1 packet of Yeast 1/2 tsp sugar 1 1/2 tsp salt 1 1/4 Cup water (1/4 warm for yeast)
I like to toss it all into the bread maker for the dough making process but then take it out to shape it and let it rest before putting it in the oven for like 20 minutes on a cookie sheet.
I'm going to try your recipe Shannon. I think mine is so chewy because you roll it flat and then roll it into a log. I think the dough gets over worked and tough. Thank you much, lady! I appreciate it.
Afternoon all! I'm going to pretend that I don't know that the chicksa are gone, so I don't have to mourn them. But so sorry, Margaret. :-(
Angie Smith's latest post is interesting, for several reasons. I like her and find her interesting, maybe especially because I find her "extreme" spirituality so foreign and odd. Like saying "Satan would love to prey on my anxieties." Anyway, she had complaints from her readers that a Sex and the City 2 ad was up on her site, and she asked for it to be taken down. That tickles me. The ads aren't even PG-rated, i.e., they're tame. What, is the word "Sex" what people find offensive?
Sexsexsexsexsex
And Poop, when is AP coming back? I thought she was getting a new modem today, damn it!!
we're going back to his 2 days away at a time schedule, and it's delightful. that's why we made the cookies, to celebrate. zaya is super excited, i am too.
i've gotta run. we're gonna have milk in the cheap wine glasses i found at a thrift store. they look new, that's what is so cool about glass. you wash and sparkle it and it's like it was new. for .50 ea. instead of $10 for 4.
The nest was deep in a bush at the end of our driveway. Dan trimmed off the top of the bush over the weekend - that's how we found the nest. By trimming the bush the nest was exposed. Poor little chicks.
I have 4 - 1 oz gold coins I am thinking of selling. Anyone have any opinions for or against? My grandpa gave each granddaughter the coins Christmas 2 years ago before he died, so I have a sentimental attachment to them, but I could use them to pay some bills off.
To the person who wants to come murder me in my bed for them, don't bother. They are locked in a safe deposit box, 300 miles away.
It looks like my dad probably wants to buy them, and I know he won't probably won't sell them, so I'll get the best of both worlds. Money and no guilt!
I'm snacking on a piece of bacon while contemplating the single life. I'm now single for a bit, as Jay just brought home "Red Dead Redemption", a video game.
The conversation just now:
Jay: "Do you think I should play Mr Marsen as a good cowboy or a bad cowboy?"
Howdy y'all. I'm dead tired, we've been crazy busy the past 5 days. Mama bird left for good. I was brave and looked in the nest and there were no eggs, so that's good I guess. I was looking forward to seeing those so-ugly-they're-cute baby birds.
Who else is watching all the good TV tonight? I'm so sad that Lost is almost over. :o(
Let us go then, you and I, When the evening is spread out against the sky Like a patient etherised upon a table; Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets, The muttering retreats Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells: Streets that follow like a tedious argument Of insidious intent To lead you to an overwhelming question … Oh, do not ask, “What is it?” Let us go and make our visit.
Look at the latest tweet. Some brown stripey bird dived into that branch and literally screwdrivere'd all the babies out. I yelled at him/her and I think my neighbor thought I was talking to myself. Anyway, I took my dog's leash and shook it at the nest thief bird to try and scare the little bastard. I'm scared it will try to kick the babies out again.
Any who, while picking the babies up, I snapped a few pictures. OMG you guys, I loved holding those tiny fluffy babies...I could feel their little hearts beating in my hand!!
I borrowed a good camera and got some killer pics of mom & dad chickadee but haven't figured out where I can upload them that won't down size them & cause the amazing detail to be lost.
I'm so paranoid that stupid nest thief will kick the babies out again as soon as mom & dad go hunting. I really hope they stay safe.
I got some great pics of the dad bird with a giant spider...it's wild, I can't wait to show ya'll.
Oooooh Jill I'm so jealous! The only thing holding me together this time of year is all the interruptions and assemblies and trips etc. It means I have to be super organized and not leave important evaluatives until this late but I just don't. I do still have to calculate marks and finish up my report cards. That's a doozy with so many subjects and so many grades and classes, but Term 3 I don't mind, believe it or not!
Well if we don't "talk" soon, have fun and enjoy your time off!!
My bird contribution: a mallard has made her nest in my front garden. A couple of years ago we had a mallard make her nest there 2 years in a row and then nothing. Since they tend to nest in the same spot, I'm assuming she met with some accident and this is the new mallard. My kids are excited, it's so cute. But I can't garden until she's done. This one hasn't done anything yet but the last one would hiss at us if we came too close. Poor birdies, we're taking over their territory.
OMG I was just going thru the pics and looking at some of them full size for the first time. Daddy chickadee had a bug, which I knew...what I did not realize is that the "bug" was a freaking ginormous spider. It either has a strange bisected body, OR was carrying a giant egg sac. I'm going use my phone to tale a pic of the monitor screen since I accidentally left my USB cord at Chris' but I could not wait to show y'all this. Gonna try & load it on to Twitter.......hope it works.
DO NOT LOOK at the pic link if you are one of those people who gets green around the gills at those nat'l geographic specials. It's no lion vs gimpy wildebeast in the serengeti, but it *is kinda graphic.
I would love to know if that "thing" is part of the spider or like an egg sack or something.......
Sorry for the "picture of a picture" crappy quality...when I go back to my brother's tomorrow I'll have the USB cord and I can load up the real pics...they are such cute birds=)
Everyone is welcome! The only real rules here are no spamming shit and no posting personal addresses, phone numbers or other similar info. I don't need that kind of stress. That's it, although it could change if someone gets creative or something. If you don't like what is said here, you can: 1) Say so; 2) Hold it in and stew on it; 3. Address it privately to the person who said it; 4) Snark about it to your friends; 5) Leave. Don't bother me with it, I don't care and I won't get involved. I might, however, talk about you behind your back or post your email/message to me on here. *grins*
Them's the rules...all of them.
Have fun!

Just counting down the hours over here.
Today is the last day for the Seniors. I'm starting to get a little sad.
Good morning!
Margaret - yay for 2 babies!
Jill - tick, tick, tick.
Hi Corinne!
Morning all! Margaret, love the new bird pic! Jill, no getting sad now!
Did anybody watch Big Bang Theory last night? When Sheldon turned the flag upside down, I howled. That episode was funny!
Lost night tonight! And American Idol!! Woot woot!
I love that show SW.
I'm excited and sad about LOST.
GLEE is also on tonight :)
Glee! Yes!!! Have you heard that glee fans are calling themselves gleeks, Jill? That's cute!
<----not a big tv watcher
Hi Jill, Deb, Margaret and SW!
SW - I <3 the Big Bang Theory and Sheldon is by far my favorite character. He's so obnoxious and quirky!
I could never get into Lost, however.
Yeah, I've heard that nickname.
I'm a sucker for random musical numbers in the middle of a show or movie.
TV is my biggest vice. I watch entirely too much.
Good morning. Jill, if tv is your worst vice, you're in better shape than most of us.

Scabies, grubs, chiggers, turkey vultures. This *is a vile group.
Jill, it's my biggest vice too. I need to read more.
I'm in a blah mood. It's raining and cool here.
The oil spill has now gotten to the beautiful and swift moving Gulf Stream that will carry it around Florida and up the east coast, and into Canada.
I cannot, just cannot imagine this was allowed to happen, to continue uncontained. BP should go out of business because of this.
Deb, would't you think there would have been a disaster plan engineered and in place so this could have been stopped at once? If they built a system that could go unchecked like this, the people in charge need to be prosecuted.

Hi RF and Mulie, btw!
Corinne, supposedly there are systems in place, but not to cover this situation. Poor engineering and lack of foresight? IDK.
Mulie, that sounds like an exciting reunion. Don't overdo getting ready!
"Don't overdo getting ready!"
No need to worry. I am only guilty of UNDERdoing anything.
Corinne/RF - This was allegedly caused by a methane gas bubble. I would have to think, that being in that business, you would have knowledge of every scenario possible. A catastrophic plan. I just think the reasons that safety standards appear lax if because these companies are literally trying to keep up with demand. Of course, it's about making money too, but until society accepts their role in this energy game, things will not change.

Prayers said, Sandy! Hope it goes well.
Thinking of your dad, Sandy...((HUGS))
Thanks Mulie!
I do agree with your about our massive consumption. With the economic disaster we all just went through, it really opened my eyes as to how "wasteful" just my family alone is.
Praying for your dad and your family Sandy!

Hey Taiya!
My dad's procedure was a failure. The blockage is too bad. They are talking surgery. My dad has to stay at the hospital for the next 6 hours to be watched and then he can come home. They are talking to a vascular guy now.
Hiya Taiya!
Sandy, I am so sorry.
Taiya - Some oil has been found as far east as Dauphin Island, AL (Directly south of Mobile)
Morning, all!
Aw, Sandy, I am sorry to hear that!
Hi Taiya!
Sandy - I'm so sorry :(
SW - I agree with everything you said. There are major issues in today's society and they can only be overcome if we accept to acknowledge we have been doing things wrong for a while.
Hey RiM!
Sandy, I'm sorry the procedure wasn't successful. Is your Dad feeling okay?
He's okay. He's under observation until around 5 and then will be released. He's not happy about the surgeries. There would be 3 total.
sorry you didn't get the news you were hoping for about your dad, Sandy. What a bummer.
Ya'll probably get tired of my links, but this one is definitely worth seeing. Bill Maher made fun of political ads in my great state in one of his recent shows. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdQzpqbZ3Po
It's pretty hilarious.
alright ladies, I'm out.
Talk with you all later!
SW - I had no idea who Bradley Byrne was prior to watching this video but it's pretty damn funny :-D
See ya, Deb!
Corinne - when do we get to see a pic of your brown hair?
sandy
i'm so sorry about your dad. i hope that they can get this figured out quickly and with minimal recovery needed.
corinne
i'm intrigued by the brown hair idea.
i'm trying to catch up. it's been quiet, that makes it easier. i've been making cookies with zaya, it's lots more fun than trying to cook cheaply (:
we tasted every step of the batter to make sure it was good. lia has a good snack radar and knew cookies were something awesome, even though she'd never had one. she approved mightily of the fresh cookie.
Margaret - I'll have my sister take a picture tomorrow ;)
What kind of cookies, Rhys?
sw
we made my mom's awesome chocolate chip cookies with a couple of tweaks for high altitude and dry weather.
they are superb. i feel like a kid again.
Hi Rhys!
Chocolate chip cookies...Yum!
YUM Rhys you make me want cookies in a bad way :) I can only imagine Lia having her first cookie :)
shannon
(: i know. life's too short to make her wait for a cookie. besides, it's homemade and with freshly ground flour. that makes it healthy, right?
i've decided that an important part of life is making cookies and not pinching everything to make sure i feed them healthily all the time.
Hi Rhys! I love chocolate chip cookies, but I *love the dough the best! Might have to make some this week now:)
LOL absolutely makes it healthy if it is homemade with fresh flour :)
We did that last night too making french bread because I just couldnt see spending like 3 bucks on 2 loaves when I have all the stuff right here to make it.
And life is way too short to wait for a cookie :)
Right now I am warming up last nights stew and havin some french bread for lunch YUMMMMMM
choc chip cookies and nap time don't mix well. she's up there singing and having a party (:
Shannon, if you get a chance would you post your french bread recipe. I have one but it always comes out really chewy on the inside. We still like it though. Thanks.
The chicks are gone - I'm so disappointed!
Sure I can Sandy here ya go
3 Cups flour
1 packet of Yeast
1/2 tsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/4 Cup water (1/4 warm for yeast)
I like to toss it all into the bread maker for the dough making process but then take it out to shape it and let it rest before putting it in the oven for like 20 minutes on a cookie sheet.
The cool thing with this recipe is that you can add anything you want to it. We like to add garlic and Parmesan and lots of other herbs as we feel it.
Margaret - Whaaaaat? Did another bird get them maybe??? Are the other eggs still there?
Do you roll it out flat into a rectangle and then roll the dough up? I do mine in the bread machine too on the dough setting.
Nope just pull it out of the bread machine and shape it like a french bread loaf looks.....that is one of the things I like about it so much :)
Quick and easy no muss no fuss
Ugh, just saw your blog, sorry Margaret. That's sad. Hopefully momma bird will try again.
We had sparrows ravage our chickadee house one year, it was horrible.
Poor babies. Mom had a good idea but apparently the little peepers werent safe enough....We need to get Margaret a little bird box.
I'm going to try your recipe Shannon. I think mine is so chewy because you roll it flat and then roll it into a log. I think the dough gets over worked and tough. Thank you much, lady! I appreciate it.
Ahhhh yeah my stepish daughter helped in making it all and kept wanting to knead it and work it and I had to keep telling her to leave it be.
Hope you love it....so simple but so yummy.
I have to find out the name of the book that Seinfeld's wife wrote about hide veggies in food. B is so picky.
Now I'm freaked out because all I can think of is every artery in my chubby body clogging. Hello my name is Sandy and I have OCD.
hide/hiding
LOL Sandy.....what about making carrot cake or zucchini bread? You can put more in then what it calls for and sneak it right up on B.
Afternoon all! I'm going to pretend that I don't know that the chicksa are gone, so I don't have to mourn them. But so sorry, Margaret. :-(

Hi all!
Margaret- sorry about the birds. :(
Bird box wouldn't help. Robins are shelf nesters. No enclosed boxes for them.
Shannon- that sounds like a good recipe. I need to get my kneader for my bread machine. Threw it out with a bad loaf of bread one day.
SW- I think it is the content of the movie, not the content of the ads that probably got Angie.
JM took all the skanky ads down from her site too. Oh, and the Susan G Komen ads down.
he's coming, and i'm giddy. (:
we're going back to his 2 days away at a time schedule, and it's delightful. that's why we made the cookies, to celebrate. zaya is super excited, i am too.
i've gotta run. we're gonna have milk in the cheap wine glasses i found at a thrift store. they look new, that's what is so cool about glass. you wash and sparkle it and it's like it was new. for .50 ea. instead of $10 for 4.
awesome

Oh yeah TWG....I hate buying new glasses they are so expensive and in our house they get broken so quickly.
Glad he is back to the 2 days thing makes it much easier for all of you I am sure.
Have fun.
I have 4 - 1 oz gold coins I am thinking of selling. Anyone have any opinions for or against? My grandpa gave each granddaughter the coins Christmas 2 years ago before he died, so I have a sentimental attachment to them, but I could use them to pay some bills off.

Don't sell them Mulie - bills come and go, sentimental is forever.
It looks like my dad probably wants to buy them, and I know he won't probably won't sell them, so I'll get the best of both worlds. Money and no guilt!
SW - I think you can be spiritual and sexy and have sex, no? That is completely up to Angie, but geez people, it's not a bad thing!
I wonder if it was the Komen KFC pink chicken bucket that set JM off. Maybe she had a socialist chicken flashback?
Hello Ladies :)
Me: "Unnnhh..."
Jay: "I think I'll have him be a good cowboy."
Me: "Okay, hon."
Then I escaped.
I'm watching Real Housewives of NJ - hot shades of mafia mess.
Why watch TV, when you can watch Sitemeter? It's so much more fun!
Hey Bella! Who are all these lurkers? And why don't they just say hello, do you think? I recognize some of these cities. I think we all do.
As a policeman once said, "Nothing to see here, move along!"
Bella, I’ve never been to Lincoln,Illinois or Little Elm, Texas. Oh if *only somebody could recommend it I would surely consider it. Anyone?
Just popping in to say hi before you bitches call me out for lurking :)
I think Little Elm is an old friend (good friend, not bad friend)
To our silent friends:
Let us go then, you and I,
When the evening is spread out against the sky
Like a patient etherised upon a table;
Let us go, through certain half-deserted streets,
The muttering retreats
Of restless nights in one-night cheap hotels
And sawdust restaurants with oyster-shells:
Streets that follow like a tedious argument
Of insidious intent
To lead you to an overwhelming question …
Oh, do not ask, “What is it?”
Let us go and make our visit.
Hello, lurker-Jill! I have no idea what city you live in (and I'm not asking!). You're not a real lurker silly, you do comment!
School almost over? I have 26 days left.
Jill has you beat, FT!
Why is she almost done? I'm not caught up! Help!
Okay that was easy, just went back to the top of this post and seniors last day for Jill! So are you done today??!!
I *think Jill just has a few days left. Correct me if I'm wrong, Jill.
You must be quivering with excitement!
FT I have one full day and two half days left!!!
Sorry, I got sidetracked on FB.
Seniors finished today, the rest of the peons have exams until Friday.
What is the deal with us and the bird dramz??

We have gigantic Blue Jays. Is that a cool bird story?
Mulie: I have never seen a gigantic Blue Jay!

One bad ass chickadee, huh??!
