First!!! (Shhh, but since AP's not here, I'm going to claim a tiara!)

PJ said...

Or a tiny taste of a drink.

Really Frugal said...

The tiara will be perfect for the wedding, SW.

Bella - I love hot guys who read too ;-)

SW - Hopefully you'll have good stories to tell us from the wedding!

PJ said...

first husband - liked to read
second husband - hot guy (well at least more than first husband)

Hmmmm......

Anonymous said...

CK - Mix them together and you have a hot guy who reads ;-D

PJ said...

Corinne - I wish I could find both in one. But alas, I'll take second husband, for many reasons beyond his being more hot than the first one.

So I'm here at work supposed to be working. But instead I've been looking for a vacation rental for my sister and her girls when they come visit from CA this summer. We were planning a beach trip to the Gulf, but I've got cold feet because of the oil spill, and I'm thinking a place on a lake instead. If I don't do some work soon, I'm not going to be able to afford more than a pup tent to vacation in though.

Did a blog post on my baby drama.

Saw a comment from *book junkie* on another post about going to nursing school and trying to decide between LPN and RN. Go for RN! I am one, my husband is an LPN (although a military trained one so he runs circles around all us civilian nurses).

Anyway a lot of places are trying to eliminate LPN's all together, though with the shortage of nurses it's hard to do. As an RN it's kinda like you pick the job instead of the job picks you out of a bunch of applicants. And there are so many options, I started in Labor and Delivery and ended in Utilization Review. LPN's typically get stuck in nursing homes- (I worked several years in rehab/NH in administration and loved the "home like" atmosphere with the patients. The pay is good, but for hands on patient care which is usually delegated to LPN's it's too many patients to take care of at once) or Dr's offices- (which those are nice but the pay isn't great).

Fortunately, my husband has a great job with hospice but is constantly worrying about getting replaced by an RN. That's why he's going back to school.

I only have an Associate's Degree in nursing, but it never kept me from any job where they preferred a Bachelor's Degree-again, nursing shortage!

Hope that helps!

Good evening ladies - beautiful, gorgeous weather here in MD trumps sitting on the internet all day, for sure!

I hope everyone is enjoying their day. My husband and I went to a large nursery and picked out 3 large trees for our "reforestation" effort, since our huge oak had to be cut down this week. They will be delivered sometime next week. I accomplished a lot this afternoon in the garden so I a little sore but feels good.

We are going our neighbors "tiki bar" opening tonight for lite dinner and many drinks. We are setting up our projector in their back yard to show movies for the kids. Gillian's Island, I think, the series. That way the adults get to sit and chat peacefully.

Going now to watch the Preakness run, see you all later!

Deb said...

Heather - that is awesome. I admire you and your husband for doing that service. Our next door neighbors are both nurses and I just don't know how they do it with their schedules, kids, etc. The husband is even on the helicopter for 24 shifts sometimes. It's got to be very taxing physically, not to mention the emotional aspect of nursing. Kudos to you and your hubby!

Deb said...

Since I'm here talking to myself, in honor of the this year's Preakness winner, Lookin at Lucky, here is the recipe for a Black Eyed Susan drink:

I know you didn't ask, but here is the drink recipe:

Black Eyed Susans
1 - 1/4 cup vodka
4 cups orange juice
1 - 1/4 cup light rum
ice ring
3/4 cup triple sec
1 tbspfresh lime juice
4 cups pineapple juice

Chill all ingredients. Just before serving combine in a punch bowl. Unmold ice ring and float in bowl. Serve in tall glasses. Makes 10 large servings.

Enjoy, and have a great night!

Muliebrity said...

OMG! I have never heard of a Black Eyed Susan and it sounds delicious! MMMmmmmm, hard liquor.

BJ - When I get off my stretch, would love to talk with you! FYI, those Student Nurse Boards scare the beejies, even out of me LOL! I think what Heather said is good advise.

Off to get ready for more Trauma Drama.
Have a wonderful evening everyone!

Muliebrity said...

Hope you have an exciting night Kaytie!

Deb is right...it is a beautiful day here! Lawn cut, gardens weeded. We won the first game of lacrosse playoffs 18-2, and went to a neighborhood festival. Girls were excited to see the MetLife blimp leaving the Preakness. It always flys over our house. Sitting down for the first time in a while! Actually, not anymore. Off to make dinner.

'Ello daisies!

I made meatballs today and they're freaking fantastic! What's new in daisykand?

Reading some pretty interesting stuff on the internet these days.... :)

How are you guys?

twirldawg said...

Spent the day finishing a "book". Does it count as a book if I read it on my phone or computer?

What 'cha reading CM?

Angie said...

It counts, Jill. ::nods::

It's 8:00 and I'm already back from the wedding. Woohoo! It was better than I expected, and I actually would have stayed longer but my ride was ready to go. Because everything went smoothly, I've got no good stories. Sorry. :-(

Erin said...

What did you read Jill?

Angie said...

I do have one story. So the wedding was Episcopalian, the first one I've been to, and the service was a bit long. I got bored and suddently realized that I don't remember putting the frozen chicken breasts I'd bought at the grocery this morning in the freezer. I was sure I hadn't, because my freezer is really full and I knew I would have a hard time fitting them in.

I was right, and now I have 12 chicken breasts thawed that I need to find a use for before they go bad. Dang.

twirldawg said...

Erin I just finished Dead in the Family, the newest Sookie Stackhouse book.

We're watching The Informant! (their exclamation point, not mine)

Muliebrity said...

Cook them and then freeze the cooked chicken. Problem solved. You're welcome.

manda said...

Jill- Oh, just something about how a certain iracle-may oy-bay may have a acemaker-pay....

:)

You dig?

Angie said...

I saw a really really pregnant lady at the wedding, Mulie, and thought of you and Taiya.

Yeah, the thought of reheated cooked frozen chicken isn't that appealing right now. Maybe I'll feel differently tomorrow.

manda said...

Wow, I'm packing it in with these meatballs, but I'm forging the pasta so that's gotta count , right? Right. ;)

Angie said...

CM, I'm pretty sure we're "allowed" to talk about Stellan here. Are you talking about Stellan? Spill!

twirldawg said...

Geez, CM, just when I'm done with that you reel me back in.

PJ said...

SW - Make some delicious soup recipes, and then freeze them.

Or chicken chili?

manda said...

forgoing, and still I'm not even sure if it's spelled right. Meh.

manda said...

I read it on a certain blog that must not be named. Still, as far out as it sounds is anything that far out of the realm when dealing with particular individuals, I ask you?

I'll say this, if it's true (GIANT IF!) I won't be suprised, know what I'm saying?

Muliebrity said...

I tried pig Latin the other day, but it wasn't making sense so I didn't bother

Muliebrity said...

you did about 1000x's better then my un-attempt, CM.

manda said...

Mulie, thanks, I really had to think it out!

Angie said...

Okay, on M-something-we're-not-allowed-to-say, a poster claiming to be a nurse in an Atlanta hospital claims that Stellan had a pacemaker installed when the family was there over Thanksgiving. I don't believe it. I don't think a nurse would risk the penalties associated with a HIPAA violation just to out JM as a liar. She's been outed as a liar before. That's nothing new.

Angie said...

CK, got any delicious chicken soup recipes?

manda said...

SW, fair enough. But if it WERE true, how crazy would that be?! The truth hidden so the glory could be given to God.

or something.

Angie said...

Maybe, CM, but Stellan was healed by a successful surgical procedure, not through a miracle brought on by prayer. (I would argue anyway.) So I don't really see the difference if he's healed by an ablation or a pacemaker, except of course for the quality of life issues with a pacemaker.

manda said...

Now that I've thought about it some more, there's a certain group of women who *love* to stir shit up.

PJ said...

SW,
If it were me, I'd look up a chicken wild rice soup recipe that had half n half in it.

That sounds delish to me.

You could try to chicken chickpea chili recipe I posted on the thread - it's REALLY good.

You'd have to grind the chicken before you cook it (do you have a meat grinder attachment for a Kitchen Aid Mixer)?

twirldawg said...

You don't say CM, lol

manda said...

*head smack*

Angie said...

LOL Jill!

I don't have a meat grinder attachment CK. But chicken wild rice soup does sound good. I could make a lot with 12 chicken breasts too!

manda said...

Got some dishes to do, be back shortly...

PJ said...

You could probably still do the chicken chickpea chili recipe, but use diced chicken.

It's a fabulous recipe -

::wanting someone to try it::

Nilia said...

SW: broil them, cut up in strips and freeze in portions sizes you want. On the day you want to use a portion, use sundried tomato sauce, add cream to make a nice rose sauce, use sauce and chicken strips over pasta of sauce.

Voila.

Or as Kelly Bundy would say, Viola!

Angie said...

LOL re Viola! Great idea!

manda said...

FT- That sounds delish!

Nilia said...

SW: I have one of those doodads that vacuum seal food so when I freeze chicken strips they last for quite a while and taste great when I'm ready to use them. I use it for a lot of stuff, it's our second one, our first lasted 7-8 years or so, totally worth the $. It's the most-used gadget I have.

Angie said...

Yeah, I've thought about getting one of those. My freezer isn't very big though.

Nilia said...

Oh my goodness. I meant use it over pasta of choice. Preferably one that holds sauce well, like rotini.

Angie said...

God, I love the movie Sense and Sensibility. It's one of my all time favorites.

bookjunkie said...

Sorry y'all - this has nothing to do with the Sat. night black-eyed susan and wild rice soup (mmmmm!) conversation but wanted to reply to Heather.

Heather- thanks for much! That info is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm in a pretty rural area and there are several LPN schools and only one 2-year RN program, which is what I'm leaning towards at this point b/c I can do RN in the about the same amount of time anyway (or not much longer). I'm scheduled to take the placement test at one of the LPN options Mon. and am going to go ahead and do that just to give me an idea of what the test is like. Have applied to the RN school also but would have to get all my core classes in before actually applying to the nursing program. Thanks again for your help. Wish I'd done this years ago.

Angie said...

Okay, I gotta do my weekly phone conversation with Mom. Back in an hour and a couple of beers!

Someone remind me to bitch about the glass recycling effort, K?

Erin said...

SW- Can you please bitch about the glass recycling effort?? Please?

manda said...

SW- Me too! Isn't Colonel Brandon the BEST!!!

Nilia said...

So can you guys help me out with something? Why has the US not fully adopted the metric system? I've had this conversation with several American friends and nobody seems to know.

twirldawg said...

FT it's a government conspiracy.

manda said...

FT- Sorry, I got nothing.

Sandy said...

FT- because we can't understand it that's why lol.

Why do they put all like running races here in kilometers? Exactly how long is a 5K?

Nilia said...

I mean it's in perfect units of 100, the prefixes are sensible, right? Kilo, centi, milli, etc. It's also recognized as the international system of measurement. It's easy to make multiples of 10s, the prefixes make sense, I dunno, what do you think?

PJ said...

Because we're an arrogant people.

Nilia said...

Well Sandy, I'm glad you asked!

You see, 5K means 5000.

1000 metres = 1 km
5000 metres = 5 km

See how easy that was?

Nilia said...

Because kilo is 1000, see?

Sandy said...

CK, LOL

Nilia said...

And Kilograms! Let's talk about them!

1000 grams = 1 kilogram

See?

Sandy said...

Yeah, but what's that in miles?

Sandy said...

I remember in grammar school they were trying to teach the metric system. Everyone had to have the "metric ruler". That last one year.

Nilia said...

Well Sandy, to convert kilometres to miles, now *that requires Dr. Google.

There is 1.609344 km in 1 mile. I mean does that make any sense to anybody?

Nilia said...

So okay, 5000 kilometres = 3106.855961185 miles.

Nilia said...

I am rereading my comments. I hope nobody thinks I sound belligerent. But it's hard to fill up gas in the US because I have no idea what to do with a gallon. Also, it's hard to drive within the speed limit.

Sandy said...

Um yeah...I'm having a hard enough time with fourth grade fractions. lol I'll stick to inches. 12 inches to one foot. 3 feet make a yard. Easy peasy! LOL

Nilia said...

See? I'd just say 100 centimetres to 1 metre.

There's those 10s again.

Although I will say that they still sell fabric here by the yard. Which is close enough to a metre, I guess.

Angie said...

Mom's telling me about finding another rattlesnake.

Sandy said...

Well, that's easy FT. 1 cup is 8 oz. 2 cups is a pint. 2 pints is a quart. 4 quarts is a gallon. See! As for driving, I go as fast as the car in front of me! ROFL.

Nilia said...

Sandy that's not easy at all! By 10s is WAY easier. You just move the decimal either left or right. Depends.

In our schools, we celebrate 100 days of school. What do you celebrate in your schools? With your aversion to the number 100 of course, LOL!

Nilia said...

Yeah with gasoline by the gallon I can never tell if I'm getting ripped off or not.

Sandy said...

We do celebrate 100 days of school. Actually they make a big thing out of it. Parties, songs, etc.

Nilia said...

Well maybe that's a step toward the metric system, Sandy. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Erin said...

FT- you watch the numbers on the speedometer and match them to the ones on the sign on the road you are driving on. Tough, I know.

And gas? If you have to drive all over the earth for a cheaper *quart, how is *that saving you money?

manda said...

I have eaten a ridiculous amount of raw cookie dough tonight.

What's the matter with me?! I can't stop eating!

Nilia said...

Also my husband's car originated from a car auction in the US where the dealer stocks his stuff. So the damned speedometer has the big numbers for miles. And I have to squint to see the kilometres.

Erin said...

How many kilograms have you eaten CM?

Sandy said...

FT what is a loonie?

Nilia said...

But EL-L-L-L! My car's speedometer is in kilometres!

Nope, I just fill up in the US when I'm road tripping through the US. I don't live close enough to the border to make that worth my while.

Erin said...

FT- then I would say just drive until you see flashing lights in your rearview. Then I would assume you were going too fast. ;)

Nilia said...

Sandy: a bird or a denomnation of currency.

See how currency also works in 100s? Makes sense right? 100 pennies = 1 dollar.

Nilia said...

EL: Oh yes, I already *know that method. Intimately.

manda said...

Oh, probably a bajillionity meters.

That's correct, right FT?

Meters?

Meteors?

I have no effing clue.

Where's the cookie dough....

Nilia said...

A loonie is a $1.00 coin. We dispensed with the paper variety. Then the $2.00 was the next paper bill to go. That is either a toonie or a twonie, depending who you believe.

Sandy said...

Now why on earth would a dollar be called a loonie?

manda said...

Now I'm watching Twilight for the kilo-millionity(?) time, and I DON'T EVEN LIKE IT!!!!

@$%*#@!!!!

Please, someone stop me.

manda said...

hahahaha! I'm calling dolla dolla bills loonies from now on and ain't no one gonna stop me!

I promise I haven't been drinking.

Nilia said...

Silly CM, cookie dough can't be measured in metres unless you rolled it out or something. It would be in grams/kilograms.

Sandy: a dollar is called a loonie because it has an image of a loonie on it. That was voted in believe it or not.

PJ said...

People in Europe think we're stupid that our paper currency is all the same size and color.

Josh and Rya said...

FT, I lived close to the Canandian border in college. We'd drive up to drink there 'cause the drinking age was 18. There was a little bar just across the border.

Erin said...

FT- a loonie? Twonie? THAT is the dumbest thing I ever ever heard.

Almost as dumb as Twilight, and that was a *really dumb movie. Loved the book though.

Nilia said...

CM: kilo-millionity! Now you got it! Or maybe you really have been drinking, I dunno. Either way that's funny.

Sandy said...

A toonie? All righty.

Nilia said...

CK: no kidding, right? I never know how much US $ I am carrying. I have to squint at each bill.

And yes, our money does look like Monopoly money. Nobody said it but you're all thinking it.

manda said...

El- Really, REALLY dumb! But every single time it's on I watch it. Haven't read any of the books, haven't seen the second one (I just can't bring myself to rent it).

I am a twitard.

Nilia said...

I use toonie myself. It's a dual-coloured coin.

twirldawg said...

CM I blame you for my having eaten an entire box of Capt'n Crunch in the last two days.

I said I didn't like it, but I was intrigued and tried again.

Erin said...

CM- the books were all really good. I won't watch the second one either.

FT- so is one side one color, and one side another color? Do you have to call heads or tails, or which color you want when flipping a toonie?

Really Frugal said...

Good to see some chatty Daisies. SW, I had that chicken problem when my husband "helped" with groceries. I poached it all, shredded it, and froze it in a muffin pan lined with the sealing plastic wrap. When it was frozen I cut the wrap and put individual muffin shapes in freezer bags. Then I could take out one, two or three. I used them in enchiladas, quesadillas, BBQ sandwiches, pasta, and chicken salad.

FT, I agree the metric system is much easier to use. But I would hate to have us change over right now, because it would be terribly expensive and we're in enough of a financial mess. We use it some, like tools, fasteners, some craft supplies, and 2 l. bottels of Diet Pepsi.

Nilia said...

Josh & Rya: I assume near the Quebec or Manitoba borders? They're still at 18. It used to be 18 in Ontario but now it's 19 unless you mean that long ago, LOL!. When I went to Florida it was so irritating I couldn't get in anywhere there because I wasn't 21 but could drink at home. Not that I drank, I just wanted to get into places!

Sandy said...

We're on a CoCo Puff trip here.

Nilia said...

EL: the loonie is gold coloured. The toonie has a gold coloured disc in the centre, and the outer circle is silver coloured. The colours apply to both sides, they're 2 different metal combinations involved. We still do call heads or tails. The queen is always.

The monarchy has always intrigued me, btw.

Sandy said...

Actually Schitz and CoCo Puffs because that's how we roll.

Josh and Rya said...

FT, it was Emerson, Manitoba. It was a little dive of a bar where the waitress would dance topless during her break.

Really Frugal said...

I love Coco Puffs. Just wish they didn't look so much like rabbit droppings.

Nilia said...

I'm cuckoo for CoCo Puffs.

No really, can't stand the stuff. Just wanted to say that.

Erin said...

I wish we had fancy money.

PJ said...

My dog loves rabbit droppings.

Nilia said...

Josh & Rya: Well *there's a side of you I wouldn't have guessed!

Sandy said...

RF- they do don't they. Once you get past that I could eat an entire box...of CoCo Puffs that is not rabbit do.

Erin said...

RF- good thing I do not like coco puffs. B/C the rabbit droppings would have ruined it forever.

Nilia said...

You know what I hate? Euros. Whose idea was that?

Really Frugal said...

I've gotten a couple of the new gold dollars coins and almost spent them as quarters. I wish they were bigger, or two-toned.

Sandy said...

Euros...the nerve.

Nilia said...

RF: you guys have dollar coins? You still have the paper ones, don't you?

Nilia said...

Sandy: EXACTLY. See, you understand me. So few people do.

Really Frugal said...

We have paper dollars, FT, but they will be phased-out. I don't think they are printing any more.

Sandy said...

FT- we have gold dollar coins, silver dollar coins. We just can't make up our minds and we don't like using them.

Josh and Rya said...

Hey, I was just there for the beer!

Nilia said...

RF: they feel flimsy in my hand, you know? Like they're going to rip. I guess lower denomination bills are used the most often and so have the most wear and tear.

Nilia said...

Josh & Rya: Mmmm-hmmm.

Sandy said...

Josh & Rya, we have Schlitz and Hamm's. They're in the cooler, help yourself. Oh and we have Cheetos too.

Josh and Rya said...

Thanks, Sandy. I have some bud light. And drank one Woodchucks. I painted the kitchen today and dealt with my non-listening children. I'm tired!

Really Frugal said...

Yeah the dolar bills wear out so fast that the replacement cost is soon to outweigh the value. We'll see if the new ones last longer than Susan B. ANthony ones did.

Ohhh, Sandy, pass those Cheetos!

Sandy said...

::tossing Cheetos to RF::

Angie said...

psst. I think CM is drunk.

Nilia said...

::shhhhh! we're all thinking it::

Sandy said...

::hiding cooler of beer::

Really Frugal said...

mmmmmmunch thanks, Sandy

J&R, I've been dealing with non-listening kids today, too, and they are 30 and 29.

OMG I deleted my comment with the typos before remembering my copy & paste doesn't work. GUTS.

So the moment has totally passed now, but what I had SAID was......

"the loonie is gold colored"??

I feel like I walked in on ya'll talking in code. I can totally picture a shady character narrowing his eyes, looking around to make sure no one is listening, and says to his 'associate'...... "the *loonie?? It's.....GOLD colored. Get me? *Gold colored".

So, creepy mommy is NOT drinking......and I am NOT sleep deprived;)

Erin said...

It glows in the dark too.

Nilia said...

Breakfast... it isn't just for breakfast anymore.

Really Frugal said...

geez, FT, I don't think I watch the channels with cereal creatures licking each other. Though I know Canadian tv is a bit racy.

Crap! Spent too long talking to my sister after I talked to my Mom and I missed the metric system conversation! I have strong feelings about that. Seems a perfect example of American arrogance. Do any of you remember back in the 70's when were were going to switch over, that they actually replaced mile markers with km markers? Did in AL anyway. Then apparently there was a political brouhaha and reversed direction, costing who knows how much money. I was just a kid so don't remember the details. Should do some research on that.
