oh I remember now - CK - Kathryn is a nutso - what was she getting all defensive about on MWoP and trying to take credit for exposing JM and CI - whateva!
Why dammit? What did I do? And yeah, I'm fine...thanks. Glad to read that you had a good time and that LM is feeling better. :-) Oh, I keep trying to open you mail and Yahoo says it's not available. I'll keep trying.
Anyone doing anything exciting for dinner? I just put a pork roast in the crockpot with chopped garlic and fresh ginger, then dumped sweet chili sauce over it all. I'm thinking I'll stirfry up some noodles and broccoli, slice some cucumbers to go with it all and call it good.
My plan is to sew today. We'll see if it gets done but I've got a box o' vintage saris and I think I'll make some lightweight tablecloths and a new front door curtain out of a few. Exciting times, I know.
"box o' vintage saris" - OMG, you are too cool AP!
The comments are funny Kristin. However, I let this latest nonsense rattle me, it's given me a headache and I let the sheepsters rattle me and actually explained my life on mwop. I own what I said so I won't delete it but still - I feel like an idiot. Going back into Mckrehab.
I put the charm I made this morning up on my blog as a give-away if anyone is interested.
Oh, those comments are funny, and on both sides of the iPad. ;-) I am still stunned that a news station would be running such a story, though. It's simply not newsworthy. And I found it more interesting yet that they felt the need to include this: "McKinney purchased the wi-fi enabled iPad herself at the full price of $499 with her own money, insisting she hasn't been compensated by Apple or Compassion." I see more jealous comments being flung about, too...I'll never understand that.
Margaret, trust me - anyone who owns a box o' vintage saris is about as far from cool as you can get. Now, I'm off to check your blog!
I have a vintage kimono from the 20's hanging in my bedroom, but it looks kind of dumb. Maybe I should have it framed. I haven't thought about framing it. I like that idea.
I love, but my check book may hate you! I will have to dig up the pictures of me in a sari sometime! One on my best friends married into an Indian family, so we had a blast getting dressed up for their wedding events!
I'd love to see! I think saris are so beautiful and I love these old ones...they have a few frays or tiny stains but that makes me like them all the more.
I actually have access to some old dress forms. Never thought of that option either. I have my favorite on a kimono hanger, but I haven't made an effort in this house to put in a spot where I can appreciated it.
Hi Daisy's! Finally trying to catch up reading, and Tay is napping, and I'm sleepy! Going to nap while he naps. Patti went to my oldest grandson's t-ball practice, he's not so hot on playing this year, and my son is working, and they needed someone besides my daughter in law to be there to try to bribe him to stay on the field. Once the games start he loves it, he just doesn't love practicing. Tay is starting to get a cold - runny nose and coughing, so we stayed home for him to nap, but they ALL are probably coming over later to go to the park here and play... which means they will probably ALL be here for dinner. Gotta think of what to make. I have chicken and noodles and broccoli - and might make that with garlic and oil... the kids like it and its easy and I can just make some kind of bread to go with it to make enough for everyone! I was going to make chicken tikki masala tonight though, but the kids would not eat that! Have a good day everyone!! The sun is shining here again and the skies are blue - but its only around 60... but beautiful out there!! Ok nap time!
I have piles of vintage linens and table cloths. I like anything "vintage". I think that's why it feels for foreign to live in a "new" house. It'a not old enough for my taste.
I dated a guy who got me involved. I loved it - not very good at it but I liked being outside - but I wouldn't do it by myself b/c I don't trust myself - ya know - I'm not good at all. We have some indoor gyms here that I might take him to. That same guy got me my mtn bike that I think I am going to go get repaired this week and get out - I need an escape - even if it is for an hour a day.
Kristin - Rockclimbing is so much fun. I am by no means a pro at it but I do ok, I guess. There were six of us today, two of whom do competitions and all, it's amazing to see how fast they climb. We had a great time!
I understand you needing an escape. You sound like such an outdoorsy person :)
Kristin, I read that comment by Susan. I wonder if it is true? I admit, I'm not overly knowledgeable about lending practices now and never knew a foreclosure could drive property values down on a street, but it does make sense. At least considering lending companies are tightening up and looking for any reason to do so. Interesting.
I found it. I can see her point as we lowered the selling price over 65k from what were going to do 9 months prior because of foreclosures. It has always been her financial stuff that rubbed me the wrong way.
Mulie, there's no way to justify this new house. It's another piss-poor decision because even if she makes enough to pay it totally off, blogging won't last forever and they'll still have upkeep and taxes on it. They'd have been far smarter to have bought a more modest home or paid off one that went into foreclosure and, thinking of the future, started prepaid college funds for the kids, invested money monthly in some long-term venues, started saving their asses off for unexpected events, bought good life insurance policies, etc.
The financial aspect always bothered me more then the DV stuff. Putting her kids in $40 sweat pants, eating out, and the Target trips were so dishonest, when you can't pay your bills.
I was pretty much over all of it, but when I hear stories from Susan, I start to get aggravated. It is just selfish. They should have rented a small house and called Dave Ramsey.
Afternoon All - Taiya and Kristin - glad you got out and had a good time!
AP - Put up pics on your blog of your vintage saris! Saris are so lovely. After reading your comments, I had to go run my hands through the Malaysian silks I have. If it weren't so cold, I'd be wearing them. (Wearing long johns under silk just kills the effect, imo).
Corinne - What a tragedy for the people of Poland and their allies. I hope the Polish government has in place immediate replacements for those positions as they do here. Even so, how devastating!
"because God told her she could..=) giggle (pee aittle) giggle! Don't you know that, she can break all the rules because they dont apply to her because as she states..God told her..lol"
Kathryn is so brilliant. I hope she never finds this site.
That pee alittle thing kills me. It's one thing to say that on blogs such as this one but in comment on a news site, on a news story (such as it is)? Is pathetic as hell.
Mulie, I agree because we don't know the actual circumstances of the domestic violence. There are some people in this world who, no matter how patient and non-violent you are, can push you to the point you might reach out and pop them. I"m in no way justifying it, but I could understand it. And, too, I'm not convinced she didn't lie on him to get the last word in an argument. So, yeah, I can overlook the DV far easier in this case than her spending practices.
Kaytie, I'll take pictures of my sari box but you need to take some of your silks, too. And long johns go with anything. Really.
Also, thank you, Bella, for teaching me something new. I had to Google "elotes" and mmmm!
I've gotten railed on for not caring so much about the DV stuff, but who knows what really happened. The financial stuff is so far reaching. I have also wondered if Stellan received any state aid. I would be less concerned about the financial stuff if she would have said they chose to pays their medical insurance over their house, because the would have never gotten out from under those medical bills.
I did get a bit miffed about the submission post after the DV stuff came out though.
PS: Little girls are mean. Maybe just during a boy party. I dunno. My oldest likes one of them so I went along with this harebrained idea to invite some girls. Crap crap crap. I just drove 3 of them in my van and they were trashing other girls, being catty even to each other,I could not believe it.
At this age, boy / girl parties are complicated. Well at least they're all doing one thing together right now. Trashing my house while playing hide and seek. Thank God for Daisy to keep me seated. My pressure is rising. Only 45 more minutes!
people send in anon postcards with a secret about them, sometimes they do art on the postcard as well. It just hit me at that exhibit that there is a whole lot of fucking pain in this world.
AP - I so agree about the DV thing - I can see how one could lose it with certain *types of individuals.
Hello all!
I am still tired - I took a nap but LM woke up and in turn woke me up. I am supposed to go to a cook-off that SO is at but I really have no desire. I know he is going to be disappointed if I don't. I just want to sit at home on my ass tonight.
FT - Get back on as soon as you can. Worried about your surviving that mess! Groaning with you. Prepare yourself with a stiff drink BEFORE inspecting for damage.
Post Secrets? Had to look because had not heard of them. Man...they must trust her very much to e-mail those secrets. I do hope it helps to lighten the poster's load. I only read a few but some of those were scary sad.
right Kaytie - i read those and some are serious, especially the sexual abuse and the cutting. I mean I have my secrets but I don't think I would share with someone I do not know - although sometimes that does make it easier.
Hey Mulie- No, I wasn't. :) I got up to eat and ended up washing windows, folding laundry, going for a walk, and making some fresh fruit/yogurt smoothies for 'dessert'. What's up? How's it going with the hubby!
Yeah, I was reading those Post Secrets before I jaunted off. Definitely some heavy stuff in there.
Kristin- have fun outside with LM? We went to a birthday party at a park today (bad idea for a 3 year old, btw) then came home and played outside. I have a whiner today instead of a child due to yesterday's crazy sleep schedule and mommy's date night. *sigh* She is going to bed any minute, though, then I am getting a massive foot rub from my hubs... I hope! :D
Kristin - I was just browsing the Thirty One site you sent me while DH is editing one of his business things and keeps asking me, "how do you spell x,y,z" :-D
Hi ladies. We went to the circus today in Baltimore with my brother and his family. It was fun but there is something about Baltimore that gives me the creeps - it's sinister or something. Anyway, the circus was great and I think we only spent about $500 on snacks :)
Oh....hubby and I had "Date Day" :-D Son is at grandma's weeding and doing chores for her. DH took me to our favorite place for Brunch, we went for a long drive looking at rooves (ours needs to be replaced - like 10 years ago). Sounds boring as heck but we still have fun together.
Margaret - next time you go to the Circus, take me - I love Circus food! Total sucker for Cotton Candy and those long ropes of red licorice. Glad you had a good time! Haven't been to Baltimore...are there a lot of lurkers there that make it creepy?
KaytieJ- thanks! She didn't, simply because I had to sit with my feet up for a while before I did anything else. She is in bed now, though. My feet are up again, we are going to catch up on Bones and Castle, and I am going to beg for a foot/leg rub. :)
Kristin- too bad about the baseball bat! We tried to play soccer with DD today, but the wind kept grabbing the ball and taking off with it. So instead she just spent time chasing it.
Kristin - RiM is boot shopping and is blissfully strutting around. AP now has Sari drapes, tableclothes and doors. The one I am really nail biting about and have my BP cuff ready for is FT! Just teasing y'all.
Lindsay - I think you said the memorial/funeral is this weekend? Many, many hugs to you and your hubby and your friend.
Kaytie - Margaret - I'm not - I'm bored and he doesn't help - and I think a relationship should be 50/50 - I just don't have the balls to talk to him. I hate confrontation and every time I try to talk to him, he shuts down and gets defensive.
He is a really good guy with really good qualities - it's just I want chemistry and I want to do - I'm a doer, an adventurer - I'm an explorer - and I'm also a giver - I like to volunteer, etc - he does not - he is happy with what he has, where it is safe - and has no motivation to do more.
I actually kinda got upset when we were at the Livestock show - we were done - or LM was done - and we had a card with tokens still on it - I wanted to give it to some random person to use - a family that wouldn't necessarily be able to buy a bunch of tokens - but nope - I took LM to the car while he stayed back and used the tokens.
Kristin - I totally get what you are saying. If the chemistry is not there and he is not even doing the normal "room mate" help with chores and such, well... You have a whole lot going for you and you'll figure it out. ((()))
so my funny for the night - LM was on my lap and we were reading a book - he toots on me - and I ask "what are you supposed to say?" (b/c I taught him to say excuse me after he farts) and he looks at me giggling and says "I farted on you!" - gee thanks Captain Obvious!
Yeah - I have expectations and they are not being met.
His big problem is he has never had a long term relationship - but I have spelled it out - if you don't work until 3:00 - please do a chore before leaving - and that does not include making the bed. If you don't close - can you come home and ummm...maybe pick up a little or empty the dishwasher, etc but nope - and it pisses me off.
Especially this weekend - he has been gone since Friday - but he knew that on Thursday that I put g'mas dog done and had a sick kid - and he did NOTHING - just left - and said - see you Saturday - b/c I was supposed to come to the cook off - I mean - dude, at least clean up a little before leaving! yes, he did take LM on Friday - but that backfired and I still had to pick him up.
Kristin - He's there for the ride and you are doing everything. Of course you are fed up. He's not being a partner, not even a good room mate. And venting here is a safe place to do it, imo. You have our ears and hearts.
I mean - his only "chore" really is to take out the trash - which he hasn't remembered - or can't get up in time - to take it out. Pisses.me.off.
uggghhhhh!
He also took a week off from work a couple of weeks ago - we did nothing. He didn't even tell me he was taking time off - or I would've planned something - this was rodeo week - I would have loved to have gone to a performance - yeah, he doesn't think - okay - really, I need to stop bitching.
As much as we think this is a "safe" place - I know first hand it is not. and I know certain people may have hate towards me and may use this against me at a later date - or talk about me behind my back - not that I care but still.
RiM- when you get back on here, I have my hubby wanting a pair of boots, now. :) He is all gung ho about finding some and each of us getting a new pair.
Oh God. Where *didn't those kids get into. Despite being told to stay out of my bedroom, the door was wide open. Ditto for the closets. Youngest son's bed was pushed halfway across the room. Throw rugs askew. Black smudges on the posts in the hallway. I still haven't looked at the basement.
Kristin: I'm following along with you. I'm so sorry. I'd be the last person qualified to dispense relationship advice. But you're in my thoughts, definitely.
no worries FT - but any advise you want to dispense is always appreciated.
I am just getting resentful - and the thing is - he thinks I need to do more - when I point out that he only has to take care of himself - he gets defensive - I am tempted to just leave and let him have LM for a day but then the whole - he is "my" kid even though in the beginning SO wanted to adopt him.
I think I am going to give myself a foot rub with some foot lotion. Not the same but my dogs are barking.
Ahhh FT sorry about your bad bday party experience in your house - I did that once for 12 six year olds for my son - all boys - and I did a teenage mutant ninja turtle party - that was back in the day that it just came out and they were loving it - I rented the movie, ordered pizza, had a pinata to break with TMNT stuff in it - and it RAINED... ALL day!! and I only had my mom to help - this was also back in the day that the kids parents would drop them off for a party and pick them up THREE hours later - never again!!! I did slumber parties for the girls when they got older, but that was 13, 14, 15... they watched movies, ate junk, put make up on, did their hair and nails... safe stuff!!
Kristin - sorry to hear about your SO troubles... I've been there and did that and stayed 19 years.... for the kids mostly... and it wasn't worth staying for... it was still hard to get out - harder cause it had been 19 years!! Also - my 3 year old grandson was here today and he "tooted" while sitting on my lap, in the sand, at the park. I said Tucker, what do you say - and he said, My butt just talked to your butt... I love three year olds!!!
I hear what you are saying and I know that we need to talk and I know that it isn't right to stay for the kids - my mom did that and i see how much happier she is/was when she left him.
I also stayed cause I had nothing else to do and nowhere else to go - and knew that if I left I would need to take the kids, and it would lower their standard of living... and I didn't dislike my husband, I just wasn't in love with him.... and he was nice enough... I was just "comfortable" with him and didn't want to consider the alternative. Until my dad died, and I realized that life is short, and this is the only chance you have to be happy, and I didn't want to just be comfortable the rest of my life... a year later, I was out. I know I hurt him, but he knew I wasn't "happy" with him... but he was ok with that. He also did nothing around the house, after a while I just stopped asking for help and did it all, and the resentment was horrible. Its not a good thing to resent your partner... does not make for a happy relationship for sure!
FT - Hon - If I could I would send valium or better yet versed (for it's forgetfullness qualities). Is this a bad time to tell you I found a window screen out because during hide and seek someone locked one of them in the bathroom and so they had the brilliant idea of escaping through the bathroom window? My heart is with you. Whatever you do, do NOT go downstairs before deep breathing exercises! If you do, I'll lend you my Tazer Gun :-D
Karen: I don't want to win this competition, but this party was 6 hours long. We drove them to a theatre and paid for them to get in + a popcorn/drink/Kinder egg combo pack. Everybody wanted more drinks and popcorn, so $60 later. Then back to my house for pizza, ice cream, presents, and then XBox. The 3 girls got bored and wanted to wald around the block. Um, no. 1 kid stayed 2 extra hours, and the last 2 kids (and a mom and a sibling) stayed 3 extra hours.
Who was that who was going to pour me a stiff drink? Ah yes, Kristin, thank you I believe I will. Straight up, please...
FT you win - hands down!! and I'll send a drink your way too - guzzle the one from Kristin... and then sip on my a while... How old were the kids, although I'm afraid to ask!!
I make buttery chicken (indian food package mix but soooooo freaking good) but I have the taste from hell in my mouth and need something to get rid of it...
I also boiled my basmati rice in coconut milk, and other than being a little bit too sticky - it turned out well... did I do something wrong, or is that just how it works when you cook rice in coconut milk? BD I'm hoping you are still here, you seem like such a good cook, maybe you know?
Hey Kaytie - I am good, and glad to be back with my invisible friends that live inside my computer... and I'm tired, and have a bit of a sore throat and am sooo hoping Patti hasn't shared with me!
I'm reading the post secrets on SIF's blogfrog thingy and also the postsecret sight and I'm feeling like I'm listening in at a psychologist's office... and its interesting and sad at the same time... wow....
We have a new mint plant...he makes a damn fine mojito. I'm sure he'd love to make a pitcher.
Karen, are you putting in only coconut milk? Try half coconut milk, half water next time. Also, I have a butter chicken recipe you might want to try. I can post it, if you are interested.
Just thinking out loud here, basically. If you haven't already tried it, try rinsing the rice. Soak it for a moment, then pour out, and repeat twice. You will rinse some of the starch off. That might help with the stickiness, if you don't like it.
Karen - Re: Post Secrets...it is so sad...and I had to quit because I, 1) wanted to rush out and help them all, can't help it. I am a nurse :::shrug::: and 2) felt like a voyeur since I am not a member.
BD I'd love to try it - this mix was good... but I am sure I could make it better if I tried...Although there are probably spices in it that I don't have... I have the basic 6 or 7 spices... This was a box of a pasty/spice mixture that you just stirred into your chicken... it was actually really really good, but I'd like to try making it myself, you can control the heat better that way too!
I used a can of coconut milk (1 1/2 cups) and 1/2 cup of water...
I felt like I wanted to "fix" them all too Kayie, I'm an oldest child and my dad was an alcoholic and I'm a "fixer"!! I'd never made a good voyeur because I'd have to speak up - couldn't watch/listen in silence!! ha!
BD we ate it, the sauce from the chicken watered it down enough that it didn't taste bad, and I loved the faint hint of coconut that it gave the rice... but rinsing it would have been a good idea - thats what it was - just a little bit too starchy - but the taste and texture of the rice wasn't bad at all.. thank goodness we had the sauce though...
BD - I would love to check out your recipe - I'm trying to find more ideas with chicken.
I agree with washing the rice Karen - that is how my Japanese grandma taught me - wash with cold water - I just keep the water running and swish the rice around with my hand trying to get all the cloudy white water to become clear. If it is too sticky use more water. I do the long cooked rice and the way mom taught me was use the knuckle method. stick your finger in the pot until the tip of your finger touches the top of the rice - the water should reach the first knuckle of your finger. That is one thing I can cook - rice :)
BD: yes, I do like mushrooms. And I want to be you tonight. That sounds nice.
I forget who asked, I had 10 eleven year olds and my six year old. Plus 3 adults. Since 2 of the kids were meeting us at the theatre, my husband was like well you and X (friend) can drive the kids, I don't have to go. So husband stuck me and a 17-year old friend with all those kids at the theatre. Which is why husband is cleaning the basement tonight.
Friend (also son's guitar teacher) has a cool jeep which seats 3 passengers, so the kids fought over who was going to sit in the jeep. Very patient friend ended up doing 3 runs while husband waited at home to receive kids, and I stayed at movie theatre to send kids.
1 tablespoon oil (preferably peanut, but olive or vegetable/canola will do in a pinch) 1 shallot, finely chopped (can be omitted if unavailable) 1/4 yellow onion, chopped (white is also fine) 3 tablespoons butter 2 teaspoons fresh squeezed lemon juice 1 tablespoon fresh peeled ginger 2-3 cloves garlic, peeled 1 teaspoon garam masala 1 teaspoon chili powder 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1/4 cup plain yogurt 1 cup heavy cream (half and half can be substituted, but not fat free half and half. Trust me.) 29 oz. can tomato puree 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
1 tablespoon oil (see note under oil above) 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken cut into bite-size pieces (I use a combo of breast and thigh) 1 teaspoon garam masala 1 pinch cayenne pepper Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon cornstarch 1/4 cup water
Puree ginger and garlic together, and set aside.
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large saucepan over medium high heat. Saute shallot and onion until soft and translucent. Stir in butter, lemon juice, ginger and garlic combo, 1 teaspoon garam masala, chili powder and cumin. Cook, stirring, for 1 minute. Add tomato puree, and cook for 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Stir in heavy cream (or half and half) and yogurt. Reduce heat to low, and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and set aside.
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Cook chicken until lightly browned, about 10 minutes. Reduce heat, and season with 1 teaspoon garam masala and cayenne. Stir in a few spoonfuls of sauce, and simmer until liquid has reduced, and chicken is no longer pink. Stir cooked chicken into sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Mix together cornstarch and water, then stir into the sauce. Cook for 5 to 10 minutes, or until thickened (I will sometimes omit this last part, depending on whether I use heavy cream or half and half. I prefer to use cream, and when I do, I don't need to thicken the sauce). Serve with basmati rice.
alright ladies - I am exhausted - I have the dryer going and a load in the washer, going to start the dishwasher - oh and I rubbed my feet - didn't do much but they smell minty fresh :)
I LOVE me a mojito too. I need to figure out how to make me one.
Goodnight ladies and thanks for listening to me bitch. I'm sure if I do have a talk with him, you will have to listen to me say how lonely I am - lol!
I do 2 parts water, 1 part rice... cook 20 minutes. We started using basmati rice when we make any rice, more expensive but the flavor and the aroma is worth it to me! I used to suck at cooking rice, but lately, it turns out well every time! Next time I'll use 1/2 and 1/2 with the coconut milk and water though... I liked the taste that it gave the rice! When I was in NY there was a chinese/tai restaurant that had a dish called pineapple coconut fried rice... I loved that... want to make it but have no idea how they did it... it had chicken in it also - anyone ever hear of it?
I found a wild rice, brown rice and mushroom soup recipe that I thought I'd send with the wild rice. Which I will probably send out Tuesday. I'll keep you posted.
Kristin - goodnight! hope LM has a good sleeping night tonight!!
BD thank you - that doesn't sound too hard and the only thing I would have to buy is the garam masala - do they sell that in the regular spices at the grocery store, or a specialty type store or where? I think I'm going to try it next time myself, rather than the mix!!!
BD:Ooooh! Looking forward to that! I will send a picture for AP to post for your viewing pleasure when I make it. Provided I don't muck it up. I can't ruin soup, can I?
::holds out glass for BD to share her mojito pitcher::
Another blogger I follow is repenting of her curiousity with MWOP. It made her feel dirty apparently so she's going to stop. And all but 2 of her 28 comments came out in full support of the jealous people and if you don't have anything nice to say and I don't know why people who don't like her and they're haters, and blah blah blah.
What do you make of Elisabeth (former MWOP hater and MckM lover and defender) on there who's brother had a stroke? MWOP posters just donated enough to support a week of therapy for him.
I have to say I rarely read at MWOP - and when I do - I couldn't remember names unless I tried, super hard! I'm SO bad at names... its taken me a long time to get everyone posting here straight!! But I'm leary of hearing about donations to someone that you read about on a blog - ever since OHIH and that whole donation thing...
FT - I think it was generous of MWOP to donate. AT the same time, a blogger can't just link every sob story in their inbox. I can't really blame JM for not promoting Elisabeth's story, but it doesn't seem like she gives what was given her. I don't know how JM can win when it comes to the sob stories.
Did the donations come from the moderator of MWOP - or from various people who comment on MWOP? I'm not understanding, and just went to MWOP to read a bit....
Mulie: right, but she promoted that other blogger who desperately needed money... for things like grad school. She seemed to have just dug herself into a little hole, is all. Her financial straits weren't like losing a house, or a medical expense. I would like to help, but like Karen feel a little gun-shy lately, you know?
I tried to read a little of that blogger in needs site, but didn't get very far. Maybe she promoted her blog because she was offering a raffle for a nice camera. I thought it was odd.
Mulie: I thought it was odd too. And it seems like she got quite a bit of $ rolling in following MckM's plug. This kind of thing is just making me uneasy.
I agree 100% - and its sad really - if there are some that really are in need, and others who are able to help - its sad that sometimes you are just too uneasy to help out...
I just hope MWOP follows through because that have made that sister so happy and I would hate to them go through any additional heart break. I also hope those women can direct them to services that can assist them so they don't have to ask for help.
I agree with the directing to the services that can assist them.... I don't think there is anything wrong with someone who is desperate to help a family member asking for $$ online - for donations or whatever, when it comes to your family - I get the desperation and doing something you wouldn't normally do, to help them. Asking Mck to post your site and help you out for $$ for grad school is another thing. But a hand out is a hand out - its helpful in the moment and gets you through the moment, but what they could really use is a hand-up to help them help themselves... the donations won't last forever, and they need something to help them figure the way out of the situation, so that they don't have to continue to ask for help (hand outs).
I am more than willing in real life to help out a friend, or one of my kids friends, when they are in need. But I'm more apt to help them figure out a solution so that they aren't in the same situation again... so that they get the immediate help they need, but that they get a plan set for long term so that they don't have that emergency need again....
That being said, if one of my kids/siblings/parents needed medical help and I was desperate, I would ask for a hand out in a minute if I thought I could get anything... you do what you have to do at the time for someone you love. And how heartbreaking to have such a severe stroke at that age....
Mulie, I guess that's it...I'd be afraid it would somehow come back to me. The trust these people have seems awfully misplaced or misguided or something.
Everyone is welcome! The only real rules here are no spamming shit and no posting personal addresses, phone numbers or other similar info. I don't need that kind of stress. That's it, although it could change if someone gets creative or something. If you don't like what is said here, you can: 1) Say so; 2) Hold it in and stew on it; 3. Address it privately to the person who said it; 4) Snark about it to your friends; 5) Leave. Don't bother me with it, I don't care and I won't get involved. I might, however, talk about you behind your back or post your email/message to me on here. *grins*
Them's the rules...all of them.
Have fun!

oh I remember now - CK - Kathryn is a nutso - what was she getting all defensive about on MWoP and trying to take credit for exposing JM and CI - whateva!
anywho - have a great day and I'll see ya around!
You okay AP?
oh...and you have e-mail :)
Why dammit? What did I do? And yeah, I'm fine...thanks. Glad to read that you had a good time and that LM is feeling better. :-) Oh, I keep trying to open you mail and Yahoo says it's not available. I'll keep trying.
Ellen and some other people - hah!
Hi AP and all.
Bye AP and all.
Hi and bye, CK.
Good morning!
'Morning, Mulie...how are you doing today?
Doing well considering how late I stayed up. Yawn.
Good Morning Ladies!
AP - just screwing with you - b/c I was trying to walk out the door and you put a new post up.
Hey, Sandy and Kristin, sorry...I'm slow today.
Goddammit, it ate my post.
Oh, never mind, NOW it shows up after I bitched about it.
lol @ AP - I'm reading the comments on myfoxnews about the article for the IPad - LOVE IT!
I am supposed to go to a cook-off but I am exhausted and it's raining and LM is in a mood.
So I have ground beef out - sloppy joes - maybe? or rice and beef? or hamburger helper - who knows?
Kristin, find a recipe for dirty rice, maybe? That's good on a rainy day.
Got a link to the article?
http://www.myfoxtwincities.com/dpp/news/minnesota/mckmama-ipad-giveaway-child-survival-program-apr-9-2010
and I'm pissed b/c I had a long comment addressing some things and it went poof - b/c the damn thing reloaded. Bastard!
Now, I'm off to check your blog!
i added my two cents on there - not that it matters much.
LM is trying to stick a drumstick up my nose - AWESOME.
Am am board with this iPad argument. The iPad is a write off for her and you have to go through her blog if you wanted an entry into the contest.
I love anything vintage, AP! I have a few vintage kimonos, but no saris. Now that I will be jealous about!
kimonos mulie? My g'ma has a few - real ones that we were thinking of framing and hanging in her house. I would love to have a kimono.
Oh, and I know LOTS of Christians that gamble. How else can Missouri keep 10+ casinos in business.
Kristin, your comment was very good.
I see Kathryn on there, too.
Why I own a cookie jar??? Who Knows!
I have a vintage kimono from the 20's hanging in my bedroom, but it looks kind of dumb. Maybe I should have it framed. I haven't thought about framing it. I like that idea.
i realized after I posted it and re-read it there were a few thoughts that I didn't quite finish - oh well! :(
Kathryn makes me want to throw out the "R" word, but I am above that. Online where there is proof, anyway.
Mulie, you'll either love me or hate me for this link.
http://stores.ebay.com/indiantextiles
I like the idea of framing the kimono or if you ever found an old dress form to put it on, that would be cool, too.
Hi all!
I'm only partially caught up but, yes, Kathryn is an illiterate whackadoodle.
AP- I've heard about Sally Hansen nailpolish but we don't get them here, sadly or I would try it :)
OT- Did you all see that the Polish president and many people belonging to the Polish elite died in a plane crash? It's a tragedy for Europe, really.
I have piles of vintage linens and table cloths. I like anything "vintage". I think that's why it feels for foreign to live in a "new" house. It'a not old enough for my taste.
I went rockclimbing with friends today and I had a blast. I'd forgotten how much I love rockclimbing
Corrine, I know! I can not believe that plane crash! Tragic.
so jealous of you Corinne - I miss rockclimbing - so very much.
I am so out of shape though that I don't think I would make it but a foot off the ground. :)
Mulie - It really is :(
Kristin - Someday I'm sure you'll get the chance to go rockclimbing with LM!
How is he, btw?
he is good but defiant today - and he is having temper tantrums - which is unusual. I don't know if he is just off his game b/c of being sick or what.
I am thinking I am going to go lay down and hope he takes a nap.
I hope so Corinne!
Kristin - a nap sounds good :)
I'm catching up here and on MWoP. I'm sure Mck never expected such backlash against her Ipad giveaway!
Kristin - Rockclimbing is so much fun. I am by no means a pro at it but I do ok, I guess. There were six of us today, two of whom do competitions and all, it's amazing to see how fast they climb. We had a great time!
I understand you needing an escape. You sound like such an outdoorsy person :)
my dog just had a mouthful of squirrel - I hope the squirrel is okay!
going to go lay down with the little guy.
interesting comment from Susan on the fox9news - she was a neighbor of MckForeclosure.
Hi all -
Mulie - what's the "R" word you're talking about? I'm not having the "ah ha!" moment this time.
R word = Ret@rd
Terrible, I know.
I can't find that comment from Susan on fox9news.
I am enjoying the mini discussion on fox9news about judgement. It's like a tongue twister!
Corinne, I read about that crash. For us, I don't think it has nearly impact you must feel, being closer. So sad. :-/
Karen, I always want to be part of your family...it sounds so darn nice and fun there.
Mulie, I love old stuff, as well...mostly old stuff from exotic places, though. It's probably out of place in my house but I don't much care!
Kristin, I read that comment by Susan. I wonder if it is true? I admit, I'm not overly knowledgeable about lending practices now and never knew a foreclosure could drive property values down on a street, but it does make sense. At least considering lending companies are tightening up and looking for any reason to do so. Interesting.
still didn't see a comment by Susan, except for the Susan who was not allowed to do a pre-school raffle.
I found it. I can see her point as we lowered the selling price over 65k from what were going to do 9 months prior because of foreclosures. It has always been her financial stuff that rubbed me the wrong way.
I still don't quite get how they could justify buying the house they did after the prior years financial debacle.
Afternoon All -
Taiya and Kristin - glad you got out and had a good time!
AP - Put up pics on your blog of your vintage saris! Saris are so lovely. After reading your comments, I had to go run my hands through the Malaysian silks I have. If it weren't so cold, I'd be wearing them. (Wearing long johns under silk just kills the effect, imo).
WOW - that is some major debate going on there at the FOX9 site! Is Susan the "MckNeighbor"?
Hi everyone :)
We went to the flea market today...I LOVE the flea market!! So trashy-good! I only bought a new case for my phone, though, and elotes. YUM.
I'm reading at the Fox site now, very lol-worthy. Who is this Sailor and Co. lady? Is she JM's BFF?
Corinne - What a tragedy for the people of Poland and their allies. I hope the Polish government has in place immediate replacements for those positions as they do here. Even so, how devastating!
Sailor and Co is Sammi aka MckBFF. I generally like her, but all the MckDefending is a bit much. She really takes it personally.
Blogher ate my SOS post!
Somebody kill me. I have 10 eleven-year olds here and they want to play hide and seek. Inside the house. 7 boys and 3 girls. Send help.
FT, maybe you'll get lucky and a couple will get lost as they play.
There is a post secret going on over at SIF's community. Man this stuff is heavy!
http://theblogfrog.com/1322951/forum/18733/our-very-own-post-secret.html
I've gotten railed on for not caring so much about the DV stuff, but who knows what really happened. The financial stuff is so far reaching. I have also wondered if Stellan received any state aid. I would be less concerned about the financial stuff if she would have said they chose to pays their medical insurance over their house, because the would have never gotten out from under those medical bills.
I did get a bit miffed about the submission post after the DV stuff came out though.
One can only hope.
I like Post Secrets. There was a Post Secret exhibit in Baltimore with the actual postcards on display...dude...I cried at an art museum!
Somebody talk to me before I get up to investigate crashing noises coming from the bedroom closets.
Bella, I've never heard of that exhibit. Is it a touring exhibit?
::intrigued by art exhibits that would make Bella cry::
FT, I think you need nunchucks. I found a nice pair at the flea market today, I'll go back and pick them up for you.
Just run into their bedroom swinging nunchucks.
postsecret.blogspot.com
people send in anon postcards with a secret about them, sometimes they do art on the postcard as well. It just hit me at that exhibit that there is a whole lot of fucking pain in this world.
I've read at post secret, but I don't know any of those people, but I "know" the people over there.
Hey FT! Sorry about the girls - yes, we are a catty bunch! :)
3 girls among that many boys have to be loud, don't they? lol
where is everyone?
Hello
hey taiya - well LM decided he wanted to go outside - so out I go :)
Hey, Taiya! Still here?
How are you?
Haven't been to Baltimore...are there a lot of lurkers there that make it creepy?
kaytie - sounds like fun - yeah for date night!
Margaret - I love the circus - I try to take LM every year. I do agree though - snacks and everything else is so damn expensive.
Outside was fun - we played soccer but I realized that I lost his baseball bat :( I do not know where I put it.
Taiya - Hope your daughter goes to bed early for you!
I'm not sure what it is about Baltimore that's so creepy to me - I feel it every time I go there.
I'm watching Legends of the Fall. I Love Julia Ormond, I wish she made more movies.
can I also say that SO is not coming home again - and I'm happy! That is not good.
I miss some of the ladies today - RiM - AP you have been quiet - Lindsay - Sandy - etc, etc.
Hmm.. working?
Well, that post did. *sigh*
Is everything ok Kristin? The other day you said something about setting SO up with a friend? Sorry if I'm getting to personal.
Kristin - I sound so preachy judgey - but you don't sound happy with SO. (((())))
Taiya - Hope hubby gets the hint and does the massage!
Well, it won't be a hint, KaytieJ. haha
Margaret- Legends of the Fall is great, but it makes me so sad.
Kristin -
RiM is boot shopping and is blissfully strutting around. AP now has Sari drapes, tableclothes and doors. The one I am really nail biting about and have my BP cuff ready for is FT! Just teasing y'all.
Lindsay - I think you said the memorial/funeral is this weekend? Many, many hugs to you and your hubby and your friend.
Legends of the Falls is wonderful and so is Julia. My other favorite is Last of the Mohicans. Madeleine Stowe is one of my favorite actresses as well.
Sorry, that was kind of long.
Oh... so jealous of the boot shopping!
sorry it took so long to respond - I was reading "stories" and then getting LM ready for bed.
tatonka Kaytie - I love that movie and somewhere I have the soundtrack. LOVE IT!
I was watching Deadliest Catch but turned it to the Soapnet channel so I could catch up on this weeks Y&R.
I really want to clean - but my feet hurt and well, now I don't wanna :)
Anywho, gotta love 3 year olds!
Kristin - LOL!
Thanks kaytie!
Sorry - just venting. I'm just fed up!
Kristin - He's there for the ride and you are doing everything. Of course you are fed up. He's not being a partner, not even a good room mate. And venting here is a safe place to do it, imo. You have our ears and hearts.
Kristin- Sorry about what's going on with SO.
And LOL at LM. :) DD 'toots' giggles and says "tooting!" giggle. :)
I'm scared, somebody hold me.
Kristin: I'm following along with you. I'm so sorry. I'd be the last person qualified to dispense relationship advice. But you're in my thoughts, definitely.
FT - sorry :(
I have a small house - no way would I be able to have kids over - maybe one or two - and then it would be outside.
::stroking FT and whispering - it will be okay - after pouring a stiff adult beverage :)
Awww.... poor FT!
no worries FT - but any advise you want to dispense is always appreciated.
My butt just talked to your butt! AWESOME karen!
Oooh, Kaytie, you got me beat. I don't think any of my guests did somethink like that. Although I haven't gone to the basement. Yet.
Send the versed. And thank you.
And now I can't spell, waaaaaaaaa!
FT you win - hands down!! and I'll send a drink your way too - guzzle the one from Kristin... and then sip on my a while... How old were the kids, although I'm afraid to ask!!
FT, you MUST be insane to have had that party! You have earned a drink.
Incidentally, do you like mushrooms?
A. is at a sleepover, M. is in bed, I've gorged on pretzels and homemade strawberry cobbler and am going to have Mr. BD make me a mojito. Sigh.
See...that drink and versed did the trick of erasing all memory, FT :-D
Karen! How the heck are you! Sorry to hear Patti has been sick but so glad you got your power chord!
I want a mojito....
BD - Can Mr. BD make a mojito pitcher? I think we all need a drink after reviving FT :-D
Saturday night mojito's for all of us - love it!
I'm reading the post secrets on SIF's blogfrog thingy and also the postsecret sight and I'm feeling like I'm listening in at a psychologist's office... and its interesting and sad at the same time... wow....
Karen - I am no chef, but what you did is what they call "sticky rice". It is luscious with fresh mango slices and toasted sesame seeds.
Karen:
Thank you for the Mojito! Aaah fresh mint! Have not had that at hand since living in Cali. :::smacking lips:::
1 tablespoon oil (preferably peanut, but olive or vegetable/canola will do in a pinch)
1 shallot, finely chopped (can be omitted if unavailable)
1/4 yellow onion, chopped (white is also fine)
3 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons fresh squeezed lemon juice
1 tablespoon fresh peeled ginger
2-3 cloves garlic, peeled
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1 cup heavy cream (half and half can be substituted, but not fat free half and half. Trust me.)
29 oz. can tomato puree
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste
1 tablespoon oil (see note under oil above)
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken cut into bite-size pieces (I use a combo of breast and thigh)
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 pinch cayenne pepper
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/4 cup water
I'm sure if I do have a talk with him, you will have to listen to me say how lonely I am - lol!
anywho - night!
Rice: I rinse the starch off too. And I use a rice to water ratio 1:2 (1 cup rice, 2 cups water). I use converted rice.
FT:
I found a wild rice, brown rice and mushroom soup recipe that I thought I'd send with the wild rice. Which I will probably send out Tuesday. I'll keep you posted.
This mojito is stout. I'm a happy girl.
G'night, Kristin.
Your normal, run of the mill grocery store should have garam masala. :)
::pours another round, sighs contentedly::
Goodnight, Kristin!
BD: Holding out mug :-D Pathetic, but fresh mint Mojito...at least I provided a mug :-D
Nite Kristin!
I love it...I am still hubby's spellchecker :-D I feel so needed :-D
I believe they came from readers and the mod offered some of the ad revenue. I think.
Karen: from what I understood, both.
Hate that I'm feeling cynical about another person's story. But that's what happens, I guess...
I tried to read a little of that blogger in needs site, but didn't get very far. Maybe she promoted her blog because she was offering a raffle for a nice camera. I thought it was odd.
Off to watch Sherlock Holmes since it's due tomorrow, goodnight everyone!
Mulie: I thought it was odd too. And it seems like she got quite a bit of $ rolling in following MckM's plug. This kind of thing is just making me uneasy.
Anyway, just wanted to reply to Mulie there! Goodnight!
Night FT -
This kind of thing is just making me uneasy.
I agree 100% - and its sad really - if there are some that really are in need, and others who are able to help - its sad that sometimes you are just too uneasy to help out...
The other sob story references have been to people/children who were -----this close----- to dying or dead. Nothing to help someone who is recovering.
I really feel for that situation, but I haven't look at the site. I can't get sucked in right now!
Seems as if everyone went to bed -which is where I should be heading! Happy Sunday to everyone - I'll check in tomorrow when I can!
Goodnight!
I should probably go as well, but i am reading post secrets to my husband.
Hey, all. Catching up...long-ass day here.
That Post Secret deal is so weird for me, I don't understand why people want to do it and it makes me feel sort of creepy to read it. :-/
Straight up Gen X here and we are total voyeurs. I feel uncomfortable reading them, but mostly because I want to know who it is.
Plus, regardless of how you perceive someone on the internets, you have no idea what the could do with your deepest, darkest secret.
Mulie, I guess that's it...I'd be afraid it would somehow come back to me. The trust these people have seems awfully misplaced or misguided or something.
