CK it is one of those things where, though I havent gotten her where I would like to see her we have had several email exchanges and she really is a very kind person. I think that she allows her rather fierce faith to take control. I kind of think that socially she has had issues with fitting in and being able to find the appropriate ways to deal with things.
I do understand her heart and that she is coming from a good place with good intentions but she really has to learn how to say it in such a way that she isnt stomping on the throats of people who have their own opinions.
Well, she certainly won't learn social skills from her husband.
Actually, I have more patience with Michelle than I used to, based on what she's said about her background. If her path to God is what helped her get sober, then it makes sense that she doesn't want to question it, because if it's not true, or not completely true, then her sobriety is threatened. KWIM?
CK - I really don't know if he did sleep better or not. I had to wear my ipod to fall asleep with the stupid thing. It was really hard for him to have the constant air pressure going up his nose. And then when he woke up he was so dry. He only gave it a couple of nights and ditched it. So, I was kind of thinking of selling the machine on craigslist!
BD: that's right,I had forgotten about that, people put little pebbles on the headstone. Don't remember that happening at the actual funeral though. And yes the yarmulke in synagogue. My mother wore a black lace veil (it was her boss's wife, then daughter, then him, such bad luck in this family, over a few years) but wasn't necessary. Yarmulke's were handed out for men at the entrance though.
For shiva, no phones (including house phones, turned off), mirrors were covered.
Shannon - cool - good for you. She is passionate about "saving" people, and I know she feels it's her mission.
As Christy said on BF, if she doesn't change her underlying attitude that she's right and the rest of us are wrong, then her holier than thou attitude is going to come through in what she says, regardless of how nice she says it.
I firmly agree with you CK the way that she approaches people with the message she wants to share really does manage to turn more away then draw them in. I think with her on Sami's blog they believe much the same way and if they want to share their beliefs with each other fine so long as I dont have to duck and dodge.
BD I feel the same way with reading some of her story. I think that if she hadnt of gone on the path that she is currently on she would have ended up dead by now. For some people they have to find that higher power in order to save themselves.
Oh yes and the organizing of the meals. Wiki doesn't say kosher but it was. Family and friends take turns. Kosher has its' own rules too. Not sure if standard or why this Jewish family did that? I've been to 4 shivas so far, 3 in 1 family, and 1 other.
Everyone is welcome! The only real rules here are no spamming shit and no posting personal addresses, phone numbers or other similar info. I don't need that kind of stress. That's it, although it could change if someone gets creative or something. If you don't like what is said here, you can: 1) Say so; 2) Hold it in and stew on it; 3. Address it privately to the person who said it; 4) Snark about it to your friends; 5) Leave. Don't bother me with it, I don't care and I won't get involved. I might, however, talk about you behind your back or post your email/message to me on here. *grins*
Them's the rules...all of them.
Have fun!

Hey Sandy - Bad joke alert *********
You know what happens when you play country music backwards? You get your dog, your house, your car, your job and your hubby back. Ha ha!

What's ouch, CK? What did I say?

And people will feel manipulated and put down.
I believe you also have to be shoeless in the place where shiva is held; that might only be for the family members, though.
Some days I just don't know how I get out of bed!
Hugs to you, Sandy.
I *could be a good babysitter, ya know. I live close, and we could meet for coffee if you wanted to make sure I wasn't a serial killer.
If you needed some Sandy time.
These new martini glasses sure are small.
::shake shake shake - Pavlov the dog comes running::
BD: could be. I would take off my shoes anyway entering a home but you could be right. I think I'll google it.
CK, did I offend you? I'm trying to see where I did. I didn't mean to, if I did.
*** new post up and the "best of" link is up, too ***
Are the Cheetos ready, CK?
BD,
Ouch for whatever you snorted into your nose!
