BD - That is so exhausting and frustrating!!! And it sounds like you are doing everything you can. The only other thing I can think is to have her checked out regarding the disconnect of listening and consequences. From my experience with my son, it may be something more than willfully not listening and ignoring consequences. Either way, many hugs.

BD sucks when kids won't listen. Tay is getting into a streak where he won't listen, and when you make him listen - take away what he's not allowed to have, or move him from where he doesn't belong, he throws a major fit, throwing himself down on the floor, then if you are ignoring him, he will get up - and throw himself down again... over and over! He's persistant thats for sure!! And we had him all day Wed. then Thursday from noon til about 6 then all day Friday from 10 am til whenever Angela gets here.... This grandma is tired! And Riley is even more active!! At least its nice out, I think Riley and I might go for a walk, or to the park... or something to wear him out!! LOL

Totally annoyed. Today is my slacker day before being immersed in humanity again tomorrow. I am slicing tomatos & making lunch with wet hair, no bra, Kiss T-shirt, and fuzzy sweats. And in come neighbors from way up the road and their kids wanting to ride one of my mares. Luckily, DH saw the daggers flying from eyes and the butcher knife in my hand and headed them out the door. This is not a freaking petting zoo and they have our phone number! If there weren't kids involved I might just sit my buns on the porch with my Daisy rifle. Anybody have a corn cob pipe to go with my attitude?

I missed being around them all until 7 months ago when we moved back to Ohio - so I have alot of time to make up for - but my house is suffering this week - so tomorrow is going to be cleaning and organizing day! My mom's divorce hearing is Wed. so I think we're going with her for moral support - She's gonna need it I think!!
Kaytie, I need to know about your chickens. Against my own better judgement, I want to get 3-4 chicks in the next month. Did you buy a coop for them or just make one and all that jazz.
Good luck to her tomorrow. And definitely go. How old is your mom? Scratch that...I mean, divorce is so stressful at any age, but it seems it would be really hard the older you get.
Kaytie the hearing is Wed. and she's gonna be 72 in June - her stupid husband - my non step father - was cheating on her for 2 years and she figured it out - and accused him - and he admitted it - a little more than a year ago - not long after she had turned 71 - he sucks and he's not paid her spousal support since November - and they had to file bankruptcy - they had to sell their condo that my mom lived in for 20 years and there was no profit, just enough to pay the bank off - and now my mom just moved into a senior housing apartment which she is not very happy about - she doesn't feel OLD - so she doesn't feel like she belongs there! But yes, I'm sure the older you are the harder it gets, I feel so bad for her sometimes!! But she's tough and she will be fine!
Mulie - Ours started out as a school project for my son. Have grown to really like having them.
We bought a little hatchling coop. It had removable flooring so you could clean it easily. And the warming light was secured (if you get a hanging warming light, just be sure it won't fall and cause a fire). We had an old dog run that we never used and after the chickens grew, we put them in that. We had some siding from the barn that we put over the run since it rains so much here. We used a big dog house with a removable roof for a coop. For roosts, we strung poles through the fencing. During the day I let them out now that it is warmer. Toward dark they head back in and roost and we close the door to keep them safe. It's not fancy, but it is user friendly and easy to keep clean.
If you are getting chickens, look into Aracunas. They lay easter colored eggs. The eggs are a nice size. The chickens are calm. One thing I recommend highly is do not get a rooster. From everyone I know they are loud and mean. Also, you then have to "candle" your eggs in case they got fertilized.
Sounds like a lot, but honestly, they are the easiest pets we have and it is nice knowing what the eggs are made from. Good luck!

Thanks Kaytie - I never ever liked my step dad - so I cannot wait until this divorce is final so I can call him and let him know what I think about him!! My mom didn't want me to contact him at all until everything is final - but he's an ass - and I am going to be sure he knows how I feel about him!!! Ugggh!!! Thank you! It will be nice to sit in court with her and face him and hear the judge tell him that he owes back support to her for over $3,000 and he has to pay!!

I do not want a rooster and if I get one he's going straight to freecycle! I don't want to spend a lot of money on a coop right away, so I'm not sure what I am going to do. I had a single chicken in HS, and she generally roosted in the garage, till we moved her to an old dog crate. She ended up getting eaten by a raccoon when he figured out how to get the cage unlocked.

In addition to the Ritz Cracker Chicken, I baked an apple pie, and made up (and cooked) a recipe for Peanut Butter Banana Bread with Streusel Topping. I painted a table in the backyard which needs a few more coats, and in a little while I'm going to Michael's to get tiles to mosaic the top of the table and the matching (or soon to be matching) chairs. Who's Suzy Homemaker today?

Okay, going to finish what I started before my nap.
Okay - I just had a freak out moment - SO was in the kitchen standing at the fridge putting away leftovers and I see him grip the top of the fridge - I ask him if he is okay and he doesn't answer - so I walk in there to see him start to pass out and hit his head at the top of the fridge - SO is not a little fella - and I was worried he was going to hit the floor in the kitchen and little old me was not going to be able to keep him up. About the time I grabbed him he started to crumble. I then told him to lay down and raise his knees.
Freaked me out - and about that time, I start getting light headed. I do that when I start internalizing things.
Not sure what is going on but he is now watching the basketball game and seems to be okay.
Oh yikes Kristin that is scary. Did he just get way light headed? Is he still sick? That was a good moment to have a bit of a freak.
PS I miss the owl why are they disabled?? GRRRR

I'm laying in bed in the spare bedroom, nauseated (thanks, Mr. BD) and relishing quiet. I am also grading.
Chicken turned out well, but I think I will only use white meat from now on, as the dark meat let out a lot of grease. I know that was FT's recommendation, but I cut up a whole chicken so I had to use the dark meat. PBB Bread is good, but I prefer to let my bananas get overripe, and they were not in this condition, so the banana taste is not as strong as I like.

I was vetoed on making the chicken tonight. My son wanted to cook. He did fresh packaged pasta purses stuffed with brie. Browned up some Italian Sausage and added it to a jarred basil and garlic red sauce. He rigged the sauce with balsamic vinegar, tomato paste, sugar and pesto.
I was thrilled: A) He did not burn the house down, B) He cleaned up C) He kept washing his hands and did not double dip! AND it was really good!
Evening - all this food talk is making me hungry. Even though I just ate a dinner of Indian food.
Watching the pilot for House in reruns. I don't think we saw it when it was originally on.

CK: not exactly but it opens up possibilities of things you could suspend within the jello mold you know? Like a blue jello with little scuba guys and sea creatures would be cute, you'd have to refrigerate in layers.
If you want to go gross there seem to be some good possibilities there too but you'd need to buy the mold form too, like a brain or hand or heart but that seems more Halloweenish....

CK, a layer of blue Jello with gummi sharks in it. Put Jesus figurine on top so he's walking on water.
Alternately, just make a bowl of red Jello. Call it The Blood Of The Lamb. Some toothpicks broken and placed artistically on the top may add realism.
Here's an idea I found online, to "light up" your jello mold creation:
You may have to look around at a local dollar store, Wal-Mart, or Wal-Greens -- or whatever store in your area tends to carry trendy, hip, appealing-to-teens items (Spencers?) but you can get very small, very bright, LED lights that run off tiny batteries and flash in COLORS. They run quite cheaply.
Anyway I have seen these lights at the Dollarama for like 2/$1, you can set it right in the jello, I'm sure, like put the jello right on top of the light.

Oooh, good! You could make a smaller batch with some cream cheese in it to chop and lay on the cut edges like wave foam.
When Jake was young, I did the blue Jello and gummi shark thing in clear glasses for a birthday party once. They were super cute. As the Jello is almost gelled, shove one shark part way in so it looks like it's jumping out of the water. :-)
CK: I have a couple at school, I'll take a picture and email to you tomorrow, kind of like a white circular shape with small light tip in the middle, on/off switch, blue light. Maybe it flickers too,can't remember. When is the jello mold due?

Kristin, you can do dirt cups with chocolate pudding, too. Add gummi worms and let one worm peak out the top. Put a layer of crushed chocolate cookies on top, making sure to keep that one worm uncovered. You can even add a lollipop as a flower.

We just watched the healthcare reform bill pass. It makes me so damn sad and so damn sick at heart, seeing it pass. Angry, too, but mostly just very sad.

AP - I am with you. I shudder at the ramifications it will bring. I work in the trenches of nonprofit healthcare. Changes do need to be made, but this is not the answer.
Kaytie, I agree about changes needing to be made. I'm not about to say it's good the way it is now because it isn't but this? Is so not the answer. Florida tried regulating home insurers..."reforming" them. Their answer? They simply left Florida. It wasn't what the state government expected to happen but those of us with an insurance background knew it would be the case. Florida has a state-run homeowners' insurance company, Citizen's. It's expensive and some people are still waiting for them to pay out on the 2004 hurricanes. The rest of us pay a hefty surcharge on our private HO insurance, double-digits, to keep Citizen's afloat. Many people had to stop being insured entirely because of that rate hike to support Citizen's. The same mess is going to happen here, mark my words. Why not start at the root of most health care issues and prevent them from the get-go? Why not give huge tax breaks and low-interest loans to companies that produce true, organic food products at affordable prices? Why not tax the hell out of those who use antibiotics, chemical enhancers, etc., in their products? Tax the living *fuck out of tobacco producers. Force us to be healthier instead of wanting to fund our poor health issues. I don't get it. And, having an insurance background, we need to accept that health insurance is NOT health *care. they are two very different things and health insurance in this country was never intended to provide preventative care to the masses. Oh, lord, I need to just shut up...my blood pressure is skyrocketing.

AP - I am at the other end of the spectrum but same outrage. I give excellent care to all and their families. No matter if they are a convicted rapist, meth head, child molester or DNR over turned by the family, or guardian of the state that wants everything done even though it is hopeless. All the "reformation" is going to do is bog us down in more regulation and less reimbursement. Hold us to standards that are impossible because people are not cars. The hospitals are already on the brink. This is going to put many under.
