Monday morning Eugenics.

To learn more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eugenics

"Early eugenicists were mostly concerned with perceived intelligence factors that often correlated strongly with social class. Many eugenicists took inspiration from the selective breeding of animals (where purebreds are often strived for) as their analogy for improving human society."

Taiya -- So it's canned then? What do you eat it with?

FT, I will teach you the ways of preserving by canning.

T@iy@ said...

Yeah. Family recipe. I was the Mad Canner this past summer. Tomatoes, Corn Relish, Salsa, Green Beans, Peaches, all kinds of berry jams, pie filling, etc.

Corn Relish is supposed to be yummy. My husband loves it on brats, and actually it doesn't taste bad. It all sort of meshes together after sitting in the cans for a bit and it has a good flavor. I just can't eat it because of the smell. I stick with the salsa.

Goodnight, Corinne! See you in the morning.

T@iy@ said...

Basically eat it with any kind of meat, chips, crackers, etc. My hubs eats it like salsa, with tortilla chips. He also marinates brats with it in the fridge the day before we grill out, gives them a fantastic flavor the next day on the grill...

Robin in Montana said...

Taiya - That's very cool. Pressure canning or water bath?

kristin said...

I'm sorry but I took Spanish in jr. high and high school. French is foreign to me :)

T@iy@ said...

I do both, but I can't remember off of the top of my head what corn relish is. I am thinking water bath because it is an old family recipe.

RiM: you are wise, oh canning goddess.

Robin in Montana said...

I think I would like the corn salsa ...

I didn't can it this year due to my life being a very large clusterfuck, but the year before I canned a *ton of tomatoes, salsa, pickles (regular dill and hot/garlic dill- and won first prize at the Podunk Fair, thankyouverymuch) and huckleberry jam, jalapenos, and ... I think that's it. I loved it, and those tomatoes taste *so much better than regular canned.

All water bath, though.

<--sissy.

I missed well-bred Corinne sneaking out. Goodnight, Corinne!

Off to have my crockpot chuck roast and then to go see Shortround. Later, gators!

I knew I was a winner - somewhere :P Woo Hoo! I actually couldn't tell between author/nightmare being the right answer. Been out of French practice for a *very long time.

Alright - must go get kids from school and sign up for conferences. Ugh. I hate this time of year. Catch you all later!

Later Taiya and FT...you both have more fun going today then I do :(

Shannon said...

OK now about a thousand years ago my father's mother got me hooked on green tomato relish that she canned.....I dont talk to that side of my family anymore but really wish I had gotten that recipe.

Angie said...

FT, I'm excited about the roast! Let us know how it is!

Re corn relish, someone recently told me to mix a jar of spicy corn relish with equal parts sour cream. Makes a delicious dip!

kristin said...

yeah, I'm a "dummy" when it comes to canning and have no idea the reference to water bath or???

see ya later those who snuck out while I was "working" - FT - have fun with that shortround. Hopefully they will have decided a name for that little guy!

kristin said...

alright ladies, it's 5:00 and I am outta here!

*see ya later!

suz said...

Bye Kristin!
Not sure about the corn relish but the green tomato one sounds great!Shannon do you like fried green tomatoes? I love them so good.

Shannon said...

I have never had fried green tomatoes but I really do want to try them

suz said...

Shannon if you like green tomato relish you would probably like fried tomatoes. And I know you like fried stuff! lol.. Me too. You just bread em, little s & p, fried em in oil until golden brown.. Yum!

RIM, I just started canning this summer until my dad got sick. I did salsa and pickles. It's funny because I kept whispering to my dad that I made him pickles and that he had to get better and come home. He was on a feeding tube and the first thing he ate was one of my pickles.

Angie said...

That's sweet, Sandy. :-)

Fried green tomatoes are fantastic. I've been a southerner all my live, but didn't have a fried green tomato until I was probably 30. I've eaten a lot since I discovered them though!

Anonymous said...

Dumb no life low life Yankee here but are they actually green tomatoes that haven't ripened yet? I'm very interested in everything "fried". lol

suz said...

Sandy, yes they are unripened tomatoes. You can buy them from the fruit/veggies stands green here in the summer I am guessing just for that purpose. They have a real tangy strong tomato flavor. I love them!

suz said...

SW, I did not eat them until my 30's either, but I am not from the south. Hubs loved them so he introduced me to them.

Nilia said...

Well I'm not off to see Shortround after all. Turns out my brother has to work tonight and SIL is out buying newborn clothes (she didn't believe me apparently when I told her babies change clothes A LOT) and her parents are there now from out of town and it prob just isn't a good time. :0(

So I'll see Shortround on Wednesday probably.

Crockpot dinner was good! I think I was heavy on the onions. The meat was so soft, but fattier than I usually use, gotta be careful with that cholesterol!

My 6-year old mangia cake refused to touch the meat and grudgingly ate the potatoes and carrots. Well, actually he did try the meat and then sat there with a miserable look on his face until I handed him a napkin to spit it out. I swear I'm just going to make him peanut butter sandwiches and boiled hotdogs until he moves out. Good luck to his poor wife, is all.

Sad and missing Shortround.

kristin said...

sorry to hear FT!

I'm exhausted :(

Bachelor Finale tonight, SW are you watching?

suz said...

FT, Bummer you don't get to see Shortround (I love that name) Glad your dinner was good.
I am headed home from work, see you all later tonight or tomorrow.

Shannon said...

It sucks because if I want to try fried green tomatoes I have to wait till I can grow them on my own.....our places here in the PNW only sell big fat ripe tomatoes :(

suz said...

Shannon, I wish I could figure out how to send you some. I am sure there are rules about shipping produce from state to state. hhmmmm.
Kristin, sorry you are tired.
OK really out now, bye.

bye suz!

Y'all, I hope no one minds but I've asked an old (<--keyword to belong here) and very much loved friend to join us here and I really do hope no one minds. Trust me, she belongs with this crew, plus she's been lurking and likes us ;-) Not sure yet what name she's going to use here but it'll start with "Kay", I think. If I'm not around when she jumps in, just know she's not stalker. Yet.

If anyone has friends they want to invite in, do...I hope everyone knows that. The more, the merrier! Off to catch up and figure out something for a new post.

Anonymous said...

Hehe, AP said "penis". Sorry couldn't control myself. How are you today AP?

kristin said...

AP - you should know that we will welcome her!

I had to giggle too!

Anonymous said...

Hey Kristin, how is LM's cough?

Lisa said...

Hey, Sandy, I'm good...you? Penis.

And I see CM here! That delights me to no end, seeing her again. :-)

SW, Honey, I'm so sorry you're a sickie. Are you taking anything?

FT, glad the roast was pretty much a success. Now you know what to alter from here to get it more to your liking.

Shannon said...

Kay is going to join us?

And you best be careful with that wand and the penis pump :)

kristin said...

Sandy - it is better but seems to be coming back! Thanks for asking!

My son had something in the fall and the cough lingered for weeks. He had nothing else but this stupid cough.

I'm good AP.

Lisa said...

Shannon, yes. I've known her since '97 so I can vouch for her. Or her for me. Or something.

Shannon said...

Is this Kay as in she has bRATS?
