Shortround is adorable!! and I'm so glad that he has a name!!!

copy from last post:

Ididn't see you say about checking ebay - I will do that tonight - I have been looking on craigslist and nothing there, but didn't think of ebay. patti found one at walmart for $79 which is better than $99 - are they like a universal type of replacement cord or do I have to look for a toshiba cord? i'm clueless.

The kids had a blast, they all went to their dad's first then here. we did egg hunt with the kids in the yard, with 2 one year old and one 2 year old and one 3 year old, we did alot of eggs in the grass, but it was alot of fun. then walked down to the park here in our apartment complex and played, my mom came and brought dirt cake in a bucket which was a big hit, and they all went home by 10 - Patti has been sick with some cold/sinus thing and today its in her chest and she's coughing, think tomorrow will be a day of doing nothing at all - I'm tired! but it was worth it, had alot of fun! can't wait to get a cord for the laptop so that i can download the pics from my camera. we invited a girl that was like a daughter to me and sister to angela when the kids were in high school - she seriously spent weeks at a time at our house, she was being raised by her grandma who was sick. they were all like siblings, and i invited her to come today and patti went and picked her up - and angela was so suprised to see her here, that was so much fun surprising her! so good to see her again

Lisa said...

What a cool surprise for Angela! How is she feeling? I swear, I always want to be part of your family when you tell about things you do.

As for the cord, you say it's a Toshiba? Jake's is a Toshiba Satellite Pro and he found lots of them there for that price. I bet you can find something on eBay far, far cheaper. I don't think they are universal but it's possible a cord may fit a few models.

Karen said...

I'm headed off to ebay and to jobhunt for a bit online and then to bed - will try to be back tomorrow and catch up! Night all... Have a good Monday!

Lisa said...

Goodnight, Karen and everyone else. I'm going soon myself.

kristin said...

morning ladies!

Sounds like everyone had a good Easter!

Karen - hope you find a cord and no, they aren't universal, it would be so much easier if they were.

SR is too freakin' cute!

Morning all. I survived housekeeper prep, and am now bushed. Taiya and others, I definitely don't "clean" for the housekeeper, I just pick up. Which wouldn't be a big deal for most of you, but I'm a bit of a slob, so it's a big deal for me. For example, I still leave clothes on the floor at 45 just like I did when I was 12. I think that the fact that I've always been single and lived alone (except for a very few years with a roommate) stunted my maturity in some ways, and this is one of the ways. So every two weeks I have a major bedroom pick up, and usually I've let the kitchen go for at least a few days at that point, so I have to do dishes (my housekeeper doesn't do dishes, or at least I don't ask/want her to). AP, I hate having someone touch my stuff, really. It just seems like a necessary evil for me. Before I had help, I wouldn't entertain as much as I'd like because my house would be hopelessly messy and dirty. Now at least every two weeks it's clean and I can have people over.

kristin said...

morning SW!

Anonymous said...

Hi ladies!

FT- Shortround is so, so cute :)

SW- I understand picking up for the housekeeper. We have one who comes every Thursday and we pick up before she comes. My parents are obsessed about tidiness and cleanliness and they would just about die if the apartment hadn't been picked up for the housekeeper.

Adult Easter egg hunt sounds awesome. Except I hate 90% of my family members so that's out of the question ;)

I feel accomplished today. I spring-cleaned my closet and that took 4 hours :P

kristin said...

Yeah Corinne!

Hi RiM!

Muliebrity said...

Good morning, all!

kristin said...

Morning Mulie and RiM!

What's the good word RiM?

Robin in Montana said...

I have no words, good or otherwise this morning! I am whooped. :)

Muliebrity said...

My husband will be home on Friday and I have 2 months worth of house work to do before then! And what do I do when I have work to do? NOTHING! I am soooo lazy sometimes....

kristin said...

Mulie - sorry girl!

How are things? Doing better?

RiM - I am sorry you are whooped. Did the girls make it home okay? Anything on the news front there?

Lisa said...

Hey, all. I'm grumpy, but then again I'm always grumpy when I've made a call to child support enforcement.

Robin, glad you're back!

SW, that makes sense about the housekeeper. I admit, it would be great to just walk in and have my house really clean every so often, if it didn't involve someone touching my stuff. It's hard for them to clean without doing that, though. ;-)

Robin in Montana said...

Hi Mulie!

Kristin - yes,the girls are home and all seems to be well. They were a little strung out when they got here and both of them said it was "weird" to see their dad get married, but all in all it sounds like it was very nice, went well and they had a good time. They got their hair "did" and toenails painted, so they loved that. Even though they don't do EAster, Kelly had bought them a ton of candy and junk, so they had that to come home to,too.

The gravel pit behind the house is a county pit, so yesterday afternoon Kelly had his girls, too, and they all asked to go play in the gravel pit. I know. They loved it, climbed all the big, huge hills of gravel and slid down, etc., etc. They were *trashed in dust when they got done and Kelly blew them all off with the air compressor before they came in the house, lol.

kristin said...

How awesome about the gravel pit - LM would love it. There was a dirt pit where we went to the Easter Egg hunt that LM wanted to play in but MiMi was hving no part of it b/c we were riding in her car :)

Glad the kids enjoyed themselves - and glad they got their hair did and nails painted.

AP - I'm sorry you are grumpy - I don't know how you feel but I know that my mom does that on occasion and gets so fired up b/c the AG is worthless - my father left when my youngest was 7 - she will be 25 this year - and she is still trying to collect.

Angie said...

Gravel pit? Holy moly, that would be FUN for kids!

Robin in Montana said...

AP- Sorry you are grumpy! Stupid ass child support.

SW - I'll just go ahead and admit that I got a little smug bit of satisfaction out of the fact that she sent the kids over to my house showing off all their brand new, very expensive clothing and shoes they got on Spring Break in Seattle, and they ... played in the gravel pit. ::beams:: (Hey,we're going to be paying for the plastic that bought those clothes, so what do I care? lol.)

Angie said...

I can imagine a gravel pit would be hard on the clothes. Well played, Robin, well played.

Somebody on MWOP posted this funny/nasty little nugget today: "tee hee... just read thru all the "you suck" twits.... hopefully she's choking on her chicken as her douchtastic lazy husband chokes his." Nice.

Robin in Montana said...

LLOL! I love it.

Lisa said...

Pits of any type? Best fun in the world for kids! I'm glad your girls did okay with everything, too. That had to be hard on them but it sounds like they weathered it well. :-)

kristin said...

Oh, and my family thinks that LM's "brudder" is hysterical and kept asking about him. Good times!

He also did a lot of dancing - he had one particular move he kept doing and sis asked what his dance was called - his answer "macaroni penguin" - such an imagination!

I love that kid!

KaytieJ said...

Happy Post Easter/Weekend Everyone!!!
AP - Infuriating to have to make that call to remind one of paying up on their child. Grrr.

And yes, I am having a mug of merlot at 8:40 am after a Loooooong 3 night stretch of idiots using any excuse to party and wreak total havoc on themselves and others. My feet are fried.

kristin said...

sorry to hear Kaytie!

Enjoy the merlot in a mug :)

KaytieJ said...

FT - OMG! Shortround I is so darned cute! Such a bundle of sweetness to hug! Thank you AP for posting!

Kristin and LM - You make my heart sing! And no, that is not the merlot talking. I had two sips and went yuk! :-D

SW - Tomorrow is my cleaning lady day. Since I went back to work, I finally broke down. And yes, I run around and pick up and so do dishes. Should be doing that now, but missed you all this weekend.

kristin said...

Kaytie - do you read blogs? I have a condensed version of Saturday on mine - and I think the one before is a convo that we had one day in the car.

He is too darn funny and makes me laugh with his antics - his new thing is his eyebrows - like he is trying to get a girl - he will wiggle them - cracks me up - and everyone else.

I'm in trouble :)

KaytieJ said...

RiM - Good times, Good times! I may be the Devil's minion saying this, but I think it is a Parental Obligation to see that kids, especially girls, go out and have all out fun in a dirt pile or gravel pit, and if it is in their finery that is even better, at least once in their lives!

kristin said...

and thanks Kaytie - I want him to enjoy his childhood and I think it is awesome that he has such a vivid imagination - but this brudder thing - and he told my mom he has 2 sisters. I am worried people are going to wonder where my other children are at.

My sister used to tell people my mom worked in a zoo and they believed her.

Robin in Montana said...

Kaytie - You are the devil's minion, but I'm right there with you. :-D

Kristin-- He does have the cutest expressions and a great imagination! He is adorable. :-D

KaytieJ said...

Kristin - You have given me a second wind, and off to your blog I go! I did visit your blog last week and saw your convo with LM in the car. Made my heart melt...And yes, I am dog tired and may say dopey things, but that is just how I roll :-D

Lisa said...

"And yes, I am having a mug of merlot at 8:40 am"

There's just so much to love about this statement. ;-D

I hate child support issues. He's over $13,000 in arrears, which I know isn't a lot compared to some men but considering he only has to pay $270 a month, you can see how long I've fought this shit. And it's just not his faaaaaaauuuuulllllt. Fucker.

kristin said...

I hear ya AP! as my g'ma says "jackass!"

I hate that for you just as I hate it for my mom. I wish I could walk up to him and punch him in his face - definitely a douche canoe!

Thanks Kaytie - he really is a sweetheart - until he says "but I don't yove you" - when I say "I love you"

Then I tell him he has hurt my feelings!

He has just recently started to tell me he loves me without me saying it first! I love it!

KaytieJ said...

RiM - Evil Grin. You and Kelly are my heros.

Kristin - From my very limited and very unprofessional opinion, "Only" kids (AP - damnit help me out here) who have the *ability to imagine such things are going through a phase. I am not an expert in any means on this, but from what my son did and what other moms have said, this is a phase.

Nilia said...

Good morning Daisies!

AP: Ugh, seriously? I mean when support is court-ordered, that should be the end of it. You shouldn't have to chase him down. I'm with the others: douche-canoe.

Kristin: That's cute! I don't recall either of my boys having imaginary friends, that is funny!

I was loving me some Shortround 2 days in a row. He was not impressed with the bunny ears but they were only on like 3 seconds for the 1 photo, I think they were a bit snug. He's turning into a ball, he eats constantly and at 5.5 weeks is outgrowing 0-3 months. I could just hold him and stare at him all day.

I see most everyone's home today!

Robin in Montana said...

FT - I didn't say it earlier, but Shortround is so darn cute!

:-D And so I lied, I am up to four sips after reading your last post. Now...put your marvelous imagination to work and see me digging around for those very black stiletto boots I wore so many years ago to kick "HIS" ass, strapping them on and *KABBAM! One very well placed, pointy toed kick to his by now "enlarged prostate" ass!!!

Robin in Montana said...

Kaytie- I think I need to know more about this story!

KaytieJ said...

RiM - I'd share, but that is for AP to tell :-D
I can spill from my side, though, I hate shopping, but I love boots. I read your posts about Ariats and other boots and want your to know I was ginning ear to ear!

Robin in Montana said...

Kaytie - I'll poke at AP and get the scoop on that story! If I don't get a pair of Lucchese's soon, I will totally wither up and die. :nods: I hate shopping, too. Kelly bought me a gift cert for Xmas to Murdoch's (maybe it's Big R there?) and I used it so far to buy some Cruel Girl jeans, but I'm hoarding the rest of it for some very cool boots. (eyeroll at self)

RiM- It sounds like your girls had fun re:gravel pit :)

AP- I'm sorry you have to deal with that shit.

Kristin - That is super sweet

Hi Kaytie & FT!

Hi Corinne! Bumming around today? Enjoy your much-deserved break, finals aren't til June right?

Anonymous said...

Hi FT! I'm enjoying doing nothing ;)

I just finished reading 'Italian shoes' by Henning Mankell and I loved it. He is a really great author!

Finals start on June 5th (a Saturday - Yay! Lol).

How are you? Do you have the day off?

Nilia said...

Yes, no school today, no gov't services although I believe banks are open. I forget the exact rule but they can't be closed x amount of days, so if they were closed Saturday I'm pretty sure they have to be open today. My neighbours both work for the post office and they have today off. But my garbage / recycling + my composting were collected today. Usually if that day falls on a holiday it moves out one day but I guess with Friday also having been a holiday they can't do that and still be on schedule, so I think some services are open today.

We're still in our pjs, the kids and I. My little one is "enjoying" some time in his room contemplating a very poor decision. My oldest is on XBox, and I am going to watch a couple of PVRd episodes of favourites while I tidy up in general. So re-lax-ed....

Anonymous said...

I know I am *days behind on this but I was reading on MWoP and I thought I'd see what Mck's 'chicken = socialism' post was about.

Does this woman even know what socialism is? Because, that post only furthered my conviction that JM is vastly ignorant on most things she tries to discuss on her blog. I wonder if she was ever taught about the Socialism doctrine.
It was a ludicrous post (especially coming from her), and even more so that she posted such a thing on Good Friday. Pathetic.

Anonymous said...

FT- Yay for no school! It's always nice having the Monday off from work ;)

Nilia said...

Corinne: she's suffered some serious backlash following that post. That woman needs an agent. Or a filter.

Anonymous said...

FT - Or both ;)

I'm logging off for today, going to watch a few episodes of 'The Big Bang Theory'.

Have a good day, FT (and all those who are lurking)!

Nilia said...

See you, Corinne!

kristin said...

Robin in Montana said...

FT- Nosy minds need to know ... what do you have taped to watch? Enjoy your day!

We have been Food Network ho-bags lately. Guy Fieri (with an 'r' not a 't', Lisa) and his Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, Chopped, the Ultimate REcipe Showdown, the Challenges,Iron Chef, etc., etc., etc.

<---desperately needs a life.

AP - dead beat parents suck! My friend's ex owes her over 95k. Her boys are young so they really don't understand but when they get older I think it will hurt them that their dad does not care enough to help support them.

Nilia said...

RiM: Okay here's what's currently on my PVR. Minus of course shows like Maggie and the Ferocious Beast and Dragon, that's strictly kids.

Edward Scissorhands (kids have seen but I saved it so they can see again, love this movie)
Without a Trace
Murdoch Mysteries
About Schmidt
Elizabeth I (2 parts)
The Last Mimzy (for kids)
Law & Order
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Cold Case
Ice Blues: A Donald Strachey Mystery (new for me, but intrigued by the description)

Usually I also have Ghost Whisperer, but my oldest and I stayed up late last night and we're all caught up!

I see you lean to food network stuff. I lean toward mysteries, don't know why, always have and enjoy reading them also.

I'll try Food Network stuff. Ease me in, as a newbie what do you recommend I start with?

kristin said...

I just had a discussion with LM's daycare teacher about that.

I don't want to do what AP and my mother are doing - fighting the courts - so I don't get support - it would be nice, and I probably should. He knows about LM, has tried to friend me on FB and he asked "what do you want me to do about it?" and I told him "you can do the right thing."

So if he wanted to, he has my e-mail, my phone number and my facebook to contact me but he chooses not to.

It is sad and I know when he starts asking it will be hard but he has a lot of people who love him.

Nilia said...

I've seen Iron Chef, that raises my anxiety level, isn't that the one where they have a certain amount of time to create several dishes with a key ingredient (like eels or chocolate or some other random item)? I like seeing the presentation part of it,although I don't think I"d ever actually *make any of that stuff!

Nilia said...

Kristin: I think you're doing an amazing job on your own. And honestly, if you can pull it off you don't have to worry about what weekend you get him, special occasions, summers, bad haircuts, what he might hear about you, lack of supervision, other girlfriends.... well you know what I am trying to say, I hope. I can only imagine how hard it is just for you on your own. You're doing a fine job.

true margaret - but that is his decision if he wanted to be a parent. I told him he could be involved in his son's life if he wanted but he chose not to.

FT - thanks! I do agree on what you are saying. All the decisions are mine. As much as I would love to have a day to myself - I probably would go insane with worry if I had to not be with him for a night and not trusting the father at all.

I know that I am doing the best for him and really wish his father wasn't who he is and was there for him but he isn't and I can't change that.

FT said: "But my garbage / recycling + my composting were collected today.: FT, you have curbside compost pickup? I'm intrigued. Does that mean you keep a bin where you put organic waste and the city comes and gets it and uses it somehow? We don't have that where I live and I've never heard of anyone having that service. Some people save their own scraps and have compost piles or compost receptacles to use the compost in gardening. Tell us more.

kristin said...

Guess where I am off to in 20 minutes!

Opening day!

I wish I was more excited but I'm not. I just want to lay down with a heating pad.

Oh well, maybe if I drink enough beers I'll be fine :0

Nilia said...

Hey SW, yes I do have curbisde compost pickup in my city. Every week, I get garbage, recycle and compost pickup. I keep a small compost bin under my sink and I have to use special compostable plastic bags made of corn or something, empty every 1-2 days (more often if smelly food going in) and empty those bags into my larger compost bin in the garage. That larger bin will get emptied at curbside. Different truck than garbage/recycle, but same pickup day.

My parents who live in Toronto get pickup of garbage/recycle one week, compost the other week.

I have a cousin who lives maybe 1.5 hours from here (rock-throwing little kid, LOL!) and she does not compost since she doesn’t get it picked up. Her backyard is huge and I think if mine were that big I would try to compost myself. I currently don’t because the compost tub is huge and ugly and I don’t have a hidey corner in my yard. Also there is a science to composting, it involves worms, and turning the scraps and so on. My city makes compost available for purchase which is great I think.

In the end our house only produced about 2 grocery-sized bags per week of landfill garbage. A little more when the kids were in diapers. Some compost programs accept diapers (I have no idea how) but ours does not.

I think I pay a lot of property taxes, and as much as I *hate paying taxes, I don’t complain much and conform myself because we get a LOT of services in my city, many much much better than in Toronto (pools, parks, programs, garbage, recycle, compost, libraries and so on).

BTW, here's some stuff we can compost in my city: all food scraps, grease/fat, cotton balls, tissues, paper towels, napkins, paper plates, dirty pizza boxes, hair (ewww), sawdust, house plants, pet fur, wood cips/shavings. They specifically exclude dead pets (this apparently had to be specified), bandages, diapers, disposable dryer sheets, dryer lint, female hygiene products, ashes, incontinence products, kitty litter, pet waste and stuff like that.

There, more than you ever wanted to know about the compost program in my city.

We also have a recycling centre very close to my house, where they will take large items, cans of paint, batteries, etc. The large items you just drive through, they weigh your car, you go to the end and throw it into a pit, you drive back out, they weigh your car again and you pay by the weight. I've never paid more than $4 or $5.

Nilia said...

Muliebrity said...

FT, All that talk of composting is making me giddy! This excuse of a town doesn't even have recycling! Drives me batty!

Angie said...

FT, that is very interesting! I wonder how long it takes for a tampon Thanks for sharing. My city does have curbside recycling, but they don't take glass. So every few months I lug all the glass I've saved to the recycle place. I'm way overdue and have glass all over the place. My housekeeper surely thinks I'm a wino!

I think it's so cool that your landfill waste is so little.

Anonymous said...

We have a pile of organic scraps and leaves in our yard. Hubs stirs it a few times a year and then tills it into our garden soil. Its dark rich madness makes for great soil - no pizza boxes or diapers :)

Angie said...

My Dad used to keep a compost pile. He just made a big circle fence out of chicken wire and tossed vegetation and scraps in it, and turned it every once in a while. It was far enough back in their lot, and close to the woods, that the neighbors didn't mind.

Nilia said...

I'm watching footage of the rescue of 153 miners in the China mine flood. In a country with such a poor record as they have, this is a miracle. But how sad that they'll all likely return to similar conditions. So grateful today that these miners were rescued.

Nilia said...

SW: my dad did that also but on a smaller scale and he reused it in the vegetable garden, no doubt it's good fertilizer. My yard shape just a plain rectangle, no corner that's not already claimed with a small vegetable patch, swings, slides, sandbox, patio furniture and BBQ. One side of the house is a shed, the other the gate to the backyard. I would love to compost myself one day.

I'm wondering why they don't take your glass? Presumably they take your paper and plastic?

Angie said...

FT, they used to take glass curbside, but decided it was a health hazard to the collection workers. So now we have to take it in. And there are big metal bins for clear, brown, and green glass, and you have to drop your glass in the bins, and it shatters and shards fly up and try and cut you. It's completely horrifying, and I'm a nervous wreck for an hour before I do it and after I do it. I got a big bleedy cut on my arm one time. ::shudder::

Nilia said...

Sounds more dangerous now than before. Don't the curbside collectors (of anything) wear those thick gloves made out of that thick suede-like material? If not, they should, glass doesn't cut that very easily. Strange.

Nilia said...

Anybody here get an iPad or thinking of getting one?

Angie said...

FT, I have had an urge for an iPad, which is not like me at all. I'm not trendy that way. But I'm sure I'll resist the urge. I just ordered a new laptop to replace the one I (stupidly) dropped.

Angie said...

Have you guys been reading MWOP? Did you see that Mck edited her original socialism post (which contained a factual inconsistency) to correct the inconsistency. She's such an idiot. By "fixing" the story it seems clear that she took factual license with it in the first place. Not that that's a surprise to any of us, but she may still have some unconverted sheeple who might eventually stumble upon a clue.

And yes, I know it's completely hypocritical of me to claim I'm "clean and sober" and not reading Mck when I gobble up MWOP like Molly did the Easter Bunny. But as you know, sobriety is a multi-step process...

Nilia said...

SW: Yes, I have been reading at MWOP. Totally agree with you, the editing changes the recounting and that just looks bad.

Baby steps, SW, baby steps.

Shannon said...

I have been stuck at MWOP all day today reading and occasional comments.

Like the one I just made though I would really like it if people actually educated themselves on things like what socialism really is before trying to call things out.

Nilia said...

Well MckM's definitely going to SoCal, she's edited her post to indicate flight is now booked. Wonder if she's taking her children with her. I've got to find my way back to just being disinterested about her. SW you can't be my sponsor since you keep falling off the wagon, but maybe somebody else can?

Nilia said...

Hi Taiya! Sorry didn't refresh before I posted.

Anonymous said...

That's the problem Shannon - Mckchicken thinks she knows all! She's got a real ego that's fo sho.

SW - Lindsay and I used to call mwop methadone :)

Nilia said...

Taiya: do you read at MWOP? Someone named Sarah's been on today, I think she's beginning to ask herself some good insightful questions about MckM even though she came on initially defending her. I like how most people are being good with her, I mean it's not about fighting (shouldn't be), it's about having information with which to make an informed decision, right? I think there's a respectful exchange of information on there with her and a few people, many of who started off like her (well I guess a lot of us did). Anyway that's been on my mind since that exchange started and I just wanted to get that off my chest.

How are you doing today?

Shannon said...

I really could care less what MckMoron does anymore to be honest but I hate it still when she has to pull this kind of shit where she is being ignorant and trying to play it as intelligent. And if she takes the kids to SoCal I will be shocked and amazed.....after what 3 weeks of being home with the kids I am sure that she and IM need a vacation.

Nilia said...

No no Taiya, I wasn't suggesting that Sarah was you. You posted a comment and were the recipient of my MWOP musings which were on my mind at the time. A lot of people found their way to OHIH and Daisy the same way as Sarah did, really all of us here pretty well I think. Not to SIP of course because that was private. But I'm just "watching" Sarah come to some realizations and it makes me remember my own. Very interesting. Also I wanted to comment that I like to see how the other commenters (for the most part) are not attacking her but rather providing reasonable arguments and facts. You can't force someone to switch sides, but providing information and allowing people to decide (either way I guess) is good. That was all I meant.

You didn't kill it, I was putting my boys to bed.

Nilia said...

Margaret: OMG if you set that up I would *totally contribute to that fundraiser.

Nilia said...

Wow, just realized I can go catty and mean in a split second, LOL!

Ok so what weirdness is going on here? I refreshed the page and am now on a convo that happened like 3 hours ago with none of the newer stuff?

Well I'm off to read before I start going through my daughter's easter candy. Night ladies :)

Nilia said...

Taiya: That's it, "respect". That's what I was seeing there. Extremes on either side are unattractive and don't convince anybody. I follow a few blogs also and 1 for sure which would not make me very popular I don't think (not MckM) but it's all about being reasonable and respectful.

Don't know why I'm feeling so sentimental tonight. Cuz FOR SURE I'm not pregnant!

Muliebrity said...

FT - Maybe you should pee on a stick just to be sure!

Nilia said...

Um no, I don't think I would quite qualify to play that part in the end of the world, if you know what I mean.

Shannon said...

So am I really alone or did blogger eat everyone?

Shannon said...

Oh and now none of my posts are going to show up? Blogger ate everyone!!!! Damn you blogger!!!! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL AND BACK AGAIN!!!! You cant be eating me and my imaginary friends!!!!

T@iy@ said...

Hi Shannon.

T@iy@ said...

FT- Now i am curious about your unpopular blog. :D

Nilia said...

Shannon!!! ::waving::: Can you SEE ME?

Lisa said...

Hey...if anyone is watching House Hunters right now, I know the folks on there. :-)

Shannon said...

OH no now blogger is eating my posts one at a time!!!! I hate this!!!! Dammit AP fix it LOL

Shannon said...

I feel like I am in the Never-ending Story and the Nothing is encroaching upon me

T@iy@ said...

Poor Shannon.

Darn it, AP! I love House Hunters, but I am upstairs in bed with my feet up and can't watch it.

Lisa said...

"Now...put your marvelous imagination to work and see me digging around for those very black stiletto boots I wore so many years ago to kick "HIS" ass, strapping them on and *KABBAM!"

Kaytie, my memory sucks (not to mention the idea of you strapping things on is sort of hard to get over) so I've got bits and pieces coming at me here. Was this the guy you left the country for? That's what I'm remembering. But I'm confused, too, since I also own black stiletto boots. :-D

Nilia said...

Taiya, sorry I wasn't trying to be coy. The blog I'm referring to is Abby Riggs. I've emailed with Michelle Riggs a bit and my French class last year corresponded with Abby quite a bit when she was in hospital and we sent her some things too. There were quite a few pictures of her hospital room and it was papered with the cards my class made, they loved seeing their cards online and it connected them and made Abby real, you know?

This year, my French class (some students were in that 6/7 class last year and so some are in my 7 class this year) is corresponding with and sending care packages to Kate McRae, another little girl with cancer but this time in the brain.

I introduce a blog I care about each year to students I think are mature enough to handle it (this year, my other French class (Gr 6) CANNOT handle this, some are ridiculously immature, so I didn't bother with them). We pray for Kate before beginning each class, and I ask for specific prayers depending on what her mother has put in the journal recently, like we'll pray that her kidney function improve, that her scans be clean and so on. I keep them updated, and we sometimes send care packages although we've only sent 1 to Kate so far.

I don't think it's too early to show kids compassion by modeling it, and quite honestly that they are not invincible. Kids die. That's just what it is. Gratitude has to be taught.

And all care packages are paid for by me so no paperwork with raising $, I just can't be bothered with running that by the school. And the kids sign with first names only, and I can't send pictures of them. Rules, rules, rules.

The kids have a great time making cards, I allow like 3 periods for it and provide all the paperstock and fancy scissors and glittery beads and so on. I sometimes forget to update them and then they ask *me. I guess some kids don't care (not that they'd be obvious to me because I would *freak) but so many of them do. I intend to keep this up every year if I have a class old enough to handle it.

Shannon said...

WOOOHOOOO!!!!! I can see my friends again. I didnt like that not one little bit!!!! All I had was up to SW's post at freaking 7:10 and then nothing.

I was ready to cry.

Nilia said...

Shannon, were you starting to feel like you'd only imagined us? LOL!

"We have been Food Network ho-bags lately. Guy Fieri (with an 'r' not a 't', Lisa)"

Thank you!

"but when they get older I think it will hurt them that their dad does not care enough to help support them."

Margaret, it will. I can honestly say that while I never tried to hide the fact from Jake if it was appropriate to the conversation, I have never been ugly about it and, in fact, tried to make some excuses for his dad when Jake was younger. Now? He totally gets it. It's been ages since he talked to his dad and won't even return a call from yesterday. It makes me very sad but it's nothing I can fix more than I've already tried to.

Kristin, I don't want to fight it either but unfortunately, when I let it go, I wound up with a court order forcing me to turn it over to the state for enforcement and to follow up on on a regular basis. So I faithfully make a call every few months, get pissed for a day or so and then let it go again.

Shannon said...

I was starting to wonder. I was going to respond to Taiya and then the world went horribly wrong. MWOP was giving me weird error messages and my beloved Daisy site was showing me talking only to myself like I was in the twilight zone or something.

All I did was go play one of my BigFish games and everything went wrong.......never again!!!

T@iy@ said...

That's very cool, FT. I agree about compassion. I think that is a great thing to do!

You didn't have to share, either. I was just teasing. I don't even know who that is, actually. I have read very few blogs from people who are well known. Most of my blogs are quilting blogs, actually.

T@iy@ said...

Well, I am off to bed. I am barely keeping my eyes open here. Plus I have to pee (again) and by the time I get back upstairs and in bed I am going to be passing out.

Night Daisies.

Nilia said...

I think that the father, Brent Riggs, rubs some people the wrong way. I don't have a problem with him, I mean he does link to MckM but I think he's genuine and he does strike me as a generous person. I've received some lovely emails from Michelle Riggs too. Of the 7 children they have together 3 are adopted.

Nilia said...

Goodnight, Taiya!

Bella, I'm no Peep fan but stale or frozen makes them amazingly better.

"I was just wondering what it would be like if AP and SW booked an engagement photo shoot with JM."

We would totally love her to her face, like her more than we want to admit in reality and snark the shit out of her here. Plus, we'd both be pink and green and very, very bright. *nods*

"I feel like I am in the Never-ending Story and the Nothing is encroaching upon me"

ROFL!! Excellent, Shannon.

Shannon said...

Well it is a crassic AP LOL

Shannon said...

Oh and JM and her socialism.....yeah I went and got fried chicken at the deli today.....I wasnt piggish enough though to assume to order it all though LOL and they didnt make me pitch in for anyone else who might happen to come in tonight to buy chicken

Lisa said...

Goodnight, Taiya.

FT, I'm sorry but Brent Riggs? Is a grifter in Jesus' name, imo. Not to mention a very ugly-minded, judgmental, arrogant piece of work. He's the male version of JM.

Shannon said...

AP thank you for saying that.....after that whole thing with that other chic I cant stand that man.

Lisa said...

"Well it is a crassic AP LOL"

Are you speaking Japanese?

Shannon said...

My friend, Tania, has this sweet older oriental lady that comes to her shop and talks about how this is crassic and that is crassic.....she is such a sweetheart and it just sticks in my head every time I think if classic.

Lisa said...

Shannon, BR has raised the hairs on the back of my neck for a very long time. I think Michelle is probably pretty sweet but dominated to hell, much like Israel.

Nilia said...

AP: ah crap, I couldn't remember where I had read a comment about him. Didn't mean to make you out yourself. He is zealous and confident, I'll give you that. But I do think he's on a higher rung than JM, I don't believe there's any aspect of JMs life that I covet but I do admire BR and his wife adopting 3 children, and they appear to be community minded in terms of their elderly neighbours, and they do pray for other bloggers and even list them on their blog. I dunno.

Forgive me my Brent Riggs and I'll forgive you your RV, okay?

Shannon: what other chick? I think I missed something.

Lisa said...

"My friend, Tania, has this sweet older oriental lady"

Oh, oh. I got a handslap not long ago for saying "Oriental". We're supposed to say "Asian" now, it seems.

Shannon said...

WOOOOOPS my bad

A sweet older ASIAN lady

ummmmmmmm is saying older ok?

Nilia said...

Also (to continue comparison to JM) the Riggs' aren't dishonest and don't appear to have any dirty laundry to air. He just seems genuine to me, and he's not afraid to say what he believes. Even when I don't agree with it. JM says one thing, does another, preaches another, claims to be expert in areas she understands nothing of. A wannabe.

Shannon said...

I dont remember exactly what her name is...Like mom to three boys and a little lady? They were loosing their home and BR was campaigning everywhere to help raise money for them.....

KaytieJ said...

Shannon - It must be a Left Coast thing - for an hour now I have been refreshing like crazy and on verge of tears, cuz I could not see comment posts!

Lisa said...

FT, no, it's fine! And it's fine if you like him, too, and you didn't make me do anything. I'll speak up on that man any day But, to the best of my knowledge, he had no part in adopting those kids...it was Michelle before she married him, I'm pretty sure. In fact, I think (could be wrong, though) he's still not adopted them legally although I walked away from that mess about a year ago and that could have changed by now.

But yes, I'll make the Brent-Israel trade with you. ;-)

Shannon said...

"JM says one thing, does another, preaches another, claims to be expert in areas she understands nothing of."

HAHAHAHA I love it but I think it would have been better had you said that she "claims to be an expert in EVERYTHING" :)

Nilia said...

I remember there was one post in particular that I felt very heated about, I think it was the one where BR wrote about who goes to heaven and so on. I absolutely did not agree but BR doesn't just spout stuff, he walks the walk. Again, JM wouldn't know the first thing about this.

Shannon said...

Oh Kay I am so glad it wasnt just me......when I posted everything from the wierdness to the nothing it was all me all alone with no friends while they were sitting somewhere else laughing at me LOL

Lisa said...

Shannon, here. http://www.4littlemenandgirlytwins.com/

Ahhhhh yes that was it AP.....I had to stop reading it because it really got my hackles up and my panties were bunched SOOOOOO bad.

KaytieJ said...

AP - Sorry for confusion re: Kicking Ass with stiletto boots. I was referencing when you were first having Child Support problems and I would cyber kick dumbshit for you :-D

Lisa said...

"I absolutely did not agree but BR doesn't just spout stuff, he walks the walk"

I'll agree with this. He spouts ugliness, hatred and judgment and walks it, too. Can you tell I detest him?

Nilia said...

Shannon: Yes, THAT family rubs me the wrong way, I think that it's 4 Little Men and Girly Twins. Very JMish, I didn't get into that one much. Make mistakes and then want others to bail them out. I think BR was just being a good fellow Christian to want to help her out.

AP: no worries, there are a lot of opinions here. If we all thought blindly the same way we'd be no better than sheeples, right? From what I remember they each had children coming into this marriage to each other, and Michelle had already adopted (or was adopting) Abby. They together adopted Landis and Sami after Abby, and once they were already together.

KaytieJ said...

Shannon - :::nodding::: Made me sick to my stomach.

Hey ladies - laughing out loud at the Japanese comments - my grandmother is Japanese and we make fun of her all the time!

Game sucked - we lost :(

We did have a hood rat in front of us that would not shut up, a girl that sat in front of us puked everywhere at the top of the stairs and all they way to the bathroom and then we saw a fight on the way to the car - gotta love opening day!

Head hurts and I'm tired - so I'm going to call it a night.

Night ladies!

Nilia said...

AP: um, I've never emailed BR directly.

Nilia said...

AP: whoops, read that the wrong way,I thought you wrote "Can you tell him I detest him". LOL!

Lisa said...

Kaytie...lol...we've made so many threats over the years that they blur. Especially with our mix of rum and merlot. :-D I know one thing and I'll share it here so everyone knows why I think they world and all of you. Don't hurt me.

Back when Tom was really at his worst with drugs, he was threatening to steal Jake from me and I had evidence he meant it. I was terrified, we could not get the judge to stop visitation, even with cops testifying, restraining order violated, etc. I really had no where to get us to that he couldn't think of and try to find us and then Kaytie stepped in, offering us her guesthouse to run to. And I knew she meant it, it wasn't a polite offer. He had no clue I had ties to anyone in WA, he would have never found us there and I knew we'd be welcome with open arms. Just having that option and knowing I'd not have to feel weird about accepting it took such a huge load off of me and my mom, both. I finally had a safety net and it gave me a world of confidence back. It's one of those things you never forget and can never pay back, you know?

*shoots a spitball at Katie and hides face*

KaytieJ said...

Nite Kristin!

Goodnight Kristin!

There was another adoption blog I read awhile ago, her name was Angel, she and her husband had 1 biological child and then they adopted a older girl from South America I think and then an Asian toddler, can't remember what the blog was called. I enjoyed reading her blog too.

Lisa said...

"AP: no worries, there are a lot of opinions here. If we all thought blindly the same way we'd be no better than sheeples, right?"

Oh, heck, yeah! And honestly, I can see how he could come across the way you see him if you aren't as cynical as I am. About the adoptions, you could be right there, too...it's been awhile, like I said. And you can tell him I detest him anytime,...it might be a nice way for you to open up an email relationship. :-D

Kristin, I have a fear of puke and it's one reason I avoid situations like that. Someone inevitably pukes.

KaytieJ said...

*wiping spitball off wall - you missed :-D

Those were bad, scary times. And you have helped me and many others in so very many ways. I have to shut up now because I see your aim is improving. :::ducking:::

Nilia said...

AP: wow, there sure is a lot I don't know about you!

Nilia said...

AP: you are one tough cookie. And no wonder.

Lisa said...

FT, tough? Not really. Just stubborn. A lot you don't know? Yes. I like to be mysterious, though. :-D

KaytieJ said...

AP is Magnificent :::ducking again:::

Nilia said...

Kaytie: thank you so much for that compliment!

KaytieJ said...

Shannon - Are you getting the feeling it just you and me? Hmmm....we can meet in the middle and be partying by 10 :-D

Nilia said...

Question: do any of the (younger) moms here use those shopping cart covers? I think I'm getting one for Shortround. BabySteals.com has them once in a while but I never get on in time and they're always sold out. So I looked on KozyPal and they're on sale anyway, anyone have any opinions on these things?

Shannon said...

I am trying to figure out how to fix my desktop but one of the big problems I am having is that they dont give you boot cd's anymore, at least I didnt get one with the desktop or the laptop. Of course you can download a boot disk from MicroSoft but only to a floppy.....well now how in the hell is that supposed to work when computers dont come with those anymore???!!!! It is frustrating because my grandfather could fix it possibly but not without a boot CD.

Lisa said...

Kaytie, they did...a $2M+ home, in fact. I'm not expecting any housewarming party invitations. :-D

Shannon, it's okay. We believe you.

FT, no young mom here but I had one even when Jake was little...loved it. Worth it.

Shannon, you have to order the boot CDs now. Call the manufacturer of yours with the model number and they'll send you a set. I think mine were just under $40, shipped. Actually, what kind do you have? On the offchance we might have the same model, I could loan you mine. And look on eBay, too, barring this idea.

KaytieJ said...

FT - It is a sincere one. I admire your direct, no nonsense, and yet insightful and compassionate approach.
My toes curled in an automatic response when I read students, school, blogs, praying. And then I thought about it, and saw what you were saying. I think you are doing good there.

Lisa said...

"Kay isnt Portland pretty much the middle for us? LOL if so then hell yeah we could!!!"

OMG, maybe y'all could find Krista in an alley and have her do your makeup!

And stop pishing at me, dammit.

Shannon said...

I have an E-machine. what sucks is that the damn thing is only like 3ish years old and something bad happened. Dont know what but it got caught in this thing where it started to shut down and then restart itself. Then one day it did it and essentially it got stuck in the boot process. Tried safe mode, tried telling it to reboot to scratch, tried several things but it never worked.

Shannon said...

LMAO AP we could try to find Krista but I dont know.....maybe I should start by looking for a Motel 6 in a dark neighborhood filled with hookers needing a makeup artist and a Safeway LOL

And I will not stop pishing at you :)

Lisa said...

Okay, can't help you with that, I'm sorry - I have an old HP. Check on eBay and also post on the "wanted" area of craigslist. Offer up $10 to use them for a day.

Lisa said...

If you don't stop pishing at me, I'll post that birthday picture of you! *mean look*

Shannon said...

SHIT!!!!!!

I would like to state for the record that I have never pished AP.

Shannon said...

Though someday we may find ourselves with a perfect situation where that pic would work in perfectly :) And if that day happens then I will let AP share that pic.

Nilia said...

Kaytie: I think I know what you mean. I am no prayer warrior, I think that very term is silly. And I don't believe that if enough of us pray, that Kate (or Abby, or anyone) will be saved because we've stormed Heaven's gates. That selective favouritism that MckM preaches doesn't sit well with me. For me, Kate's fate has been decided. The prayers are for the comfort of her family (although I don't email them, they know people are praying and feel comforted, nothing wrong with that), and for the benefit of the person praying. It's about community, compassion and gratitude for me. Thanks for explaining your thoughts.

And for the record, I didn't even go to church on Easter Sunday (or Palm Sunday, or Ash Wednesday but we do these at school too with the students). And it's just not going to cause me to miss a moment's sleep. For me, God's where I'm looking for Him at the time. He doesn't reserve his appointments for Sundays only.

Gosh and I haven't even been drinking today. Maybe that's what I need, a drink.

KaytieJ said...

FT - Way old mom here. However, since we lived on a boat in San Fran when son was baby and I walked to the grocery store, I had a baby carrier that attached to a stroller and also to the top part of the grocery cart. I loved it! I had to google what you are talking about. Wish I had one of those then! Excellent gift!

Lisa said...

"I would like to state for the record that I have never pished AP."

Never. Ever. She is innocent. But if she ever decides she wants me to show said picture, she can let me know. :-)

"For me, God's where I'm looking for Him at the time. He doesn't reserve his appointments for Sundays only."

FT, you said it perfectly.
