Please, please, remember Chris and donate if you can. Every little bit helps, I swear. If you can't donate, take 5 minutes out of your day and send his link to people you know. Or Tweet his link. Think of organizations you can send his info to. 5 minutes, we can all do that, right?

«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 397 Newer› Newest»So. Did Cheryl ever have the balls to come back and I missed it or did she really just drop in, call people white trash, demand explanations then and chickenshit out of actually discussing things like adults? Just curious.
I finally read Israel's post on legalizing drugs. He nearly won me over with the mention of Ali G., since I *love Sasha Baron Cohen. But not quite. I'm definitely for the legalization of all drugs, every single one, but taxing them? I go back and forth on that. That said, that was one off the hardest to read, boring posts ever. Jeeez.
I don't remember who mentioned earlier today about having a "craft silent auction" with the proceeds to go to Chris. Rhys said she would donate a photo - and (crap I have 0 memory tonight and cannot think who did those necklaces that RiM was doing a giveaway for.. but she said she has set them up before (silent auctions) - Maybe other crafty people could donate stuff.. and maybe anyone with blogs and other sites they go to could advertise the silent auction.. I don't know how it would work, but I think it would raise some decent money for our resident Queerple! Hi Chris - and Elisabeth I hope you are getting LOTS of rest!
and no I didn't see Cheryl back today...
lol AP, I agree with legalizing drugs, I think they should taxed like cigarettes are and controlled the way alcohol is. Take the law enforcement off the drug task force and put them somewhere else that is short. Hubby works with the sheriff's dept(not law enforcement..IT guy) and he hears about it almost on a daily basis..the war on drugs at this point is a lost cause and will continue to be for a long time coming. Just legalize it make strict laws about the sale and use of it and let that be that.
Well, actually I need to clarify what I just typed, cause I think Rhys said that she would donate to RiM a photo to do a give away on her blog... and then the talk of the silent auction came up... and I "think" Rhys said that she would do that too... but don't quote me. But Rhys is so sweet (HI RHYS!!) that I bet if asked she would donate one! I'm sure there are other crafty white trashy women on here that could donate some stuff!!
Sandy - I'm sorry about your daughter and the emails - and soooo sorry about your asshat husband... I must have missed other conversations about him, but I wish you didn't have to deal with that. I have been trying to read blogs of new people I'm meeting here, and just checked out your blog and love your tattoo!!
Ginger, my concern about the taxation of drugs is pretty simple - I'm not thrilled with the government knowing who buys what drugs in some cases. I'm not thrilled with the idea of a bunch of tight-assed white men having Jane and Joe Doe's names and address because they want to smoke a joint or even do a bit of something bigger on the occasional weekends when the kids aren't home. At the same time, I'm not DISliking the idea of the government knowing who the hell is a methhead with kids at home. And we have to accept that with taxation comes a loss of anonymity.
this might be a dumb question, but why would the govt. have jane and joe doe's name and address if they buy pot? i buy cigarettes and don't have to give my name and address... why couldn't it be taxed when you buy it like smokes? I know - I don't know a thing about what I'm talking about.... but I think its a good idea to legalize and tax drugs (some).. but don't understand your point AP
Karen, Tee was willing to donate some crafts for Chris, too. Hell, I'm crafty and artistic...surely there's something I could do, too. That's a good idea but I have no idea about setting up an auction. Would you or anyone else be willing to take that on?
AP, for me if they treat drugs as alcohol and cigarettes they would not necessarily have the information of people buying them. They would have the names of the sellers and such but that I am ok with..I do not think drugs will ever be legalized..too many people opposed to it especially politicians. I know many states have legalized or in the process of legalizing marijauna for medicinal use and that I am all for as I have seen the effects and benefits of it personally.
Ohhh, now I figured out the white trash thing. Everything went so fast yesterday, I couldn't remember who called people here white trash. Then, I got to thinking that maybe someone said it as a joke.
So, someone (Cheryl) from somewhere else acty did call people here white trash. Funny! Well, we sure did have fun with it. I've smiled even today thinking about what all we were saying last night. =)
I think it was Margaret who brought up the silent auction and who makes the necklaces. But, yes, Rhys is so sweet and I feel pretty sure she'd donate a print, too.
I tend to convince myself I can craft and then ruin stuff, LOL. I would definitely be interested in purchasing Daisy crafts in a silent auction though.
Wanted to say hey to Elisabeth and Chris, too. I miss y'all. Hope you are getting some much needed rest though.
I agree on IM's post being hard as hell to read and understand. I feel like that about all of his though. Definitely agree on the legalization of marijuana. I need to research and think about other drugs, have never really though about it much. I definitely agree that the war on drugs is a joke though.
Just refreshed and read what you wrote AP. Yeah, meth I guess is my big concern that and heroin, too. Have never known anyone on heroin but my God... have seen people screw up their lives and quickly with meth. Then again, I've seen some people totally screw up their lives with prescription narcotics, too, so hell, I don't know. ;)
Karen, my concern is that we don't know if the government would handle it like cigarettes and alcohol (and you're always on video then, anyway so still no anonymity) or if it would be more like a government store where your driver license would be checked, entered, scanned or something. If you're required to show ID to purchase, they've got you.
<-------- I have no clue what I'm talking about either. That's another thing I love about it here though... y'all make me think about stuff that I really should have an opinion on but just never take the time to think about. =)
But that would be more govt. interaction with taxing it all, right? I mean, the whole argument for legalization is because the govt. is too involved and shouldn't make decisions re: drugs. At least that's what I gathered from IM's post and from what JM was saying on Blog Frog last night. Of course, neither one of them make a lot of sense, so who knows.
All I do know is that if/when pot is legalized, I'll be in line, LOL. Hopefully, I'll be able to afford the taxes on it. =)
Thats true - Hell you have to show ID now to buy pseudoephedrine (however you spell it) when you are sick... Patti has maxed out her limit... so I have to buy it for her now - they are like 18 pill packs, and she takes 2 every 4 hours, as per the Dr. - stupid rules!
No matter whether drugs are legalized or not people will find a way to get them and as bookjunkie said there are those that use prescription narcs to get their high. I know we see them here all the time seeking more (and better) drugs to get a high. I am not usually one who likes Uncle Sam in my business but in the case of drugs it may be a bonus for them to know who is doing what..even if legalized there needs to be a 'cap' on how much can be consumed and deemed safe to drive..me I think any drug use means no driving..even the tiniest hit can impare someone's senses.
That is crazy, Karen! Awful.
Bookie said That's another thing I love about it here though... y'all make me think about stuff that I really should have an opinion on but just never take the time to think about. =)
ME TOO!!! This is a great group of people!
And yes Margaret is the one that said she has had experience setting up silent auctions for other charities and it was fun, so maybe she could help out with something for Chris... if it was on a webpage on its own, and everyone at Daisy "advertised" it on their own personal pages and other groups it would reach a wide range of people and possibly bring in lots of money...
Karen, here they have packs of 48 and I get one pack a week, never been told I couldn't buy it..I do hate that they swipe my ID and make me sign a paper before I can get the thing in my hands though.
True on the driving thing, I agree. If I had to choose though, I think I'd rather come up on a stoned driver than a drunk driver. I'm totally kidding! And the thing about doing drugs in the presence of children. But, it happens all the time now anyway. I don't know- there are a LOT of things to factor into it. I can definitely see medical marijuana being legalized in my lifetime though. I believe we will see that happen.
I believe the medical use will be legalized soon too - so much research that it does so much good. I read a whole long article about Melissa Etheridge using it during her cancer treatments... apparently its legal wherever she lives?
BJ-lol on the drivers..I think a drunk driver can be more beligerent and easily provoked..a stoned driver would be like..whatever man...
Drug use in front of children should be a no no, We are so anti-drug in my house that I could see my oldest doing them just because we said no. He also knows if he feels the need to try drugs that I would prefer he talk to me first. SO far he has said he will, hopefully it stays that way.
California I believe lagealized medicinal marijuana and ID is in the process of legalizing it..not sure on any other states.
Yep, that's the deal I have with my 15 y/o, too. Of course, it still scares the hell out of me. I've tried to be honest and open with her always so that she knows she can come to me about anything. And I'm finding that she does share a good deal with me about friends, etc and what's going on so far, so we'll see.
Ok, gotta get back to work for a while. See y'all tomorrow!
Well I have to be up at 8:30 and pick up Megan, Riley and Tay - take Megan to an appointment downtown, try to get my birth certificate while we're downtown, then take care of my son's great dane while he and his family are at the zoo, and then taking Megan to this HUGE baby/child consignment sale in our area... And my throat feels like I'm swallowing razor blades... and my head is aching... better get a little bit of sleep, even though I really like these late night discussions and the company of my other night owl friends! Goodnight daisy's!
BJ-I think when the time comes I will tell him my experience with drugs..so far he has listened to my experiences and either learned from them or accepted the consequences when he did whatever anyway. As long as he keeps a stable head on his shoulders he'll be good :)
Nite Karen
I could not agree more about the legalization of marijuana for medical use...in whose logical world are morphine, ritalin and xanax acceptable acceptable for medical use but pot isn't? It's ridiculous. And I, too, would rather be on the road with a stoner than a drunk day of the week.
However, being the mom of an 18 year old, relatively good kid and knowing what I have heard from many of his friends, I don't believe for a moment kids are going to be upfront with their folks about trying drugs or even thinking of it, regardless of what they say at home. The vast majority will never, ever tell mom or dad they're thinking of smoking weed, trying ecstasy or a friend's ritalin, roxies, etc. Maybe I'm just cynical, but I'd bet most everything I have on that. Scary stuff.
Hey Ginger! I am a nurse and night shifter and it sounds like you are, too? Yay! I am really sorry to hear about layoffs ((()) that stinks!
In my very humble opinion: If the street drugs of meth, heroin, crack, PCP, etc. are legalized, they will then be Prescription Drugs. Just like Methadone, not like tobacco.
Pharmaceutical Companies will be producing it, off of US States-for huge tax preference (just as they do now in Puerto Rico).
A doctor (or designated licensed provider such as a Nurse Practitioner) will then need to prescribe the heroin, meth, marijuana or crack. In order to buy these drugs, individuals will need to pay cash or insurances will need to kick in or government assistance programs will need to be set in place. Picture methadone clinics as they are now.
Just food for thought. This is not concrete - just my opinion.
Hello kaytiej, yes I am for now anyway :) find out monday if I stay a nite shifter or become a sunshine lover again :)
I think most of the people pushing to legalize the drugs are trying to get it in the same catagorie as alcohol and nicotine not like Narcs and such...I mean what ins company is gonna ok buying cocaine?
I really don't think they will become legalized other than marijuana but think of the billions we would save if they no longer had to fund the drug task forces against the drug wars?
"In order to buy these drugs, individuals will need to pay cash or insurances will need to kick in or government assistance programs will need to be set in place. Picture methadone clinics as they are now. Just food for thought. This is not concrete - just my opinion"
Oh, interesting. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding and reading way too much into what you said. Are you saying that we'll create more addicts (I do agree) and that once they run out of money to buy legally, unless we give it to them free, our crime rates and such will go back to what they are now while people try to obtain it even cheaper?
When I worked with cancer and Aids patients we handed out the pharmaceutical form of marijuana all the time in order to increase appetite and take the edge off anxiety. It sort of worked. Now with the advances in anti anxiety and anti nausea meds that work faster and better, it is hard for me to justify marijuana as a medical "better" way to go.
However, I am passionate about being a patient advocate, and if they are terminal and the only thing that alleviates their pain and suffering is marijuana, then I will holler holy hell to get it, but it will be pill form, smoking sets off the fire alarms and that is a PIA!
lol Kaytie, I can imagine the fire alarms being a PIA.
The person I knew that used it used it at home behind closed doors. She had severe allergies and some of the new pain/anti-nausea meds made things worse for her. It made her days a bit easier to handle near the end and I will always advocate medicinal use marijuana. If they could find a way to legalize all drugs without the potential to create more addicts and in an indirect way more theft (most likely..not for sure) I would totally vote for it but as I said I really don't see it in the long term.
Hey Ginger! Sunshine hours? Ugh! I have a mandatory meeting at 7am this morning. I will NOT be a ray of Sunshine! LOL!
I get your point, I truly do, but we already have TCH pills (medical marijuana).
AP: I have such mixed feelings on all this. I SEE the heroin, meth, alcohol, PCP, tobacco etc, addicts, ODs so much at work. I could be down right crass about it and say it is job security, but I can't. The Liberal side of me says, legalize all of it, regulate it, tax it and get the slimes out of the picture that produce it. However, on the reality side of it, if the government legalizes it, then the pharmacy companies will be producing it. And I have a big beef with the Pharmacy companies.
lol Kaytie..they did that to me last week but ahd it where I got off at 6am meeting at 10am then again at 2pm and had to be back by 10pm..while having kids and trying to sleep...not an easy life to be on nites when the sunshiners schedule meetings...asked em last week how they would like to go to meetings at 1 am and 4am and stil make it to work alive and not sleepin in a ditch.
We do not have the TCH pills here yet as far as I know and friend smoked it, was best way for her since her swallowing wasn't always pretty.
Checking back in one more time. Yeah, AP, the teens and drugs thing scares the crap outta me.
I find it so hard sometimes because there's such a fine line between building trust and letting her make some decisions and mistakes, too and being too strict and then she rebels against me. So far, so good but we've still got a long time until she's grown.
She became eligible to get her learner's license in March and so far is not even the least bit interested in taking the test. Secretly, inside, I'm cheering and not encouraging it because I just am not ready for that yet. ;)
Goodnight, night owls. Gotta work for another hour and then try to sleep.
Nite BookJunkie :0
Nite bj!
And I gotta check out, too. As you said Sunshiners and their Mandatory Meetings, Ugh! I also got a call that they want me to work IT 7am to whatever on computer charting issues next week. Fun times, fun times!
Nite all!
lol Nite Kaytie, good luck
Gonna sign out as well :) got a book I wanna read before I go home to chaos in the morning.
Hi everyone!
Sandy - (((hugs))). I'm sorry about your husband being so unsupportive and everything going on with C. That sucks.
RF - I hope you get to feeling better soon!
Ginger - I'm sorry about the layoffs.
Deb & RiM - I'm convinced the 'Big One' is coming too. I'm not a fatalist but with everything that's been going on lately, it does raise questions.
Bd - You do look a million times better than JM. And, I'm not saying that just to be nice, JM looked terrible in that interview. I know she is pregnant but that's not an excuse to be so sloppy, especially when that interview had been planned for weeks. She does look older than 32. Maybe not 10 years but at least 5 years older.
morning ladies!
AP - I will be back tonight, just won't be able to chat during the day :(
OT - So, Belgium is going through yet another political crisis. That's the fifth - I think - in three years.
And, by political crisis, I mean the government is about to fall for the fourth time in those three years! Yep. It is so damn annoying.
The problem stems from major nationalist issues between Walloon and Flemish people. There is a jurisdiction in Brussels (BHV - Brussels - Hal - Vilvoorde) that Flemish politicians want to split - rightfully so, because it is anti-constitutional - BUT if it were to be split, the rights of French-speaking people living in Hal & Vilvoorde (both in Flanders ) would be highly impacted (as in they'd be forbidden to speak French in official institutions, etc.)
So, the Walloon politicians would like a compensation for the breaking of this jurisdiction (i.e. allowing the French-speaking people's rights to remain the same in Hal & Vilvoorde), something that Flemish politicians refuse.
There are other things too but I just wish they'd agree. Our economy is going through a rough patch and this is not going to help.
So, if the gvt falls (which is extremely likely at this point) we'll have to vote. After the vote, it will again take MONTHS to form a new gov. Ugh.
Plus, now, nationalist and extreme right parties are going to earn A LOT of votes, of that I am 110% sure.
Oh and add to that the fact that there are many powerful people who want to split Belgium altogether. Yeah. Fun times.
I realize it's probably not interesting at all but I just needed to vent.
Hi Kristin! I saw that you had a meeting in Austin today. I hope it goes well.
Morning.
Corinne- that truly sounds like a mess. What happens while they are trying to form a new govt.? Everything is just kind of in limbo?
Hi Taiya! Are you feeling better today? Has the itching stopped?
When they are forming a new government, we have a temporary one but it is not allowed to decide on certain matters. It can only pass 'extraordinary' laws as opposed to 'ordinary laws'. The Belgian legal system is the most complicated in the world - I wish I were kidding - and it would take me hours to explain it all ;)
Oh and the government just collapsed - I said it'd be the 4th time in 3 years, that's actually the fifth. The vote on BHV will be passed today. Flemish against Walloon. According to some political analysts, we are now going through one of the worst crisis since the independance of Belgium was proclaimed in 1830. Yay.
Hi Margaret!
Hi Corinne :)
For the auction - we'll call it crafts for Chris but you can donate anything - a book, gift card, bottle of wine, etc.
Corinne- Wow! That is crazy. I am going to have to google your government system and learn more about it.
Still itchy, but I think it is because I am thinking about it, you know? Otherwise it is just this phantom itching I get at night when I go to bed and I can't sleep through it. I am going to call the OB today just to make sure all is good, but from what I understand this just happens in the 3rd trimester and you have to make do until birth. It apparently fades 2-3 days after the baby is born. Today I am going to buy some unisom, though, because benadryl makes me drowsy when I wake up after taking it.
Morning Ladies!
I should make a Daisy Tote Bag for the Auction!
Taiya- I hope the itching goes away sooner than after the birth of Eeq! I have never taken Benadryl - because we don't have it here. Ha! - but I know that drowsiness is one of the PITA side-effects of many antihistamine. I hope unisom helps!
Good luck reading about the Belgian government! I had a class on Constitutional law and I wanted to jump out of a window learning about the legal system here. ;-D
Hi Sandy! How are you today?
Margaret - The auction is a good idea :)
Good morning!
Corinne - that is terrible, but I find it incredibly fascinating. I wonder if our news will actually cover it.
M - I'll email you. I'm not too crafty but I will come up with something.
Sandy hope today is better.
Taiya - when pregnant unisom was my bff!
Good luck at your meeting Kristin!
Hi Corrine, I'm good.
Krisitn, Sounds like a long busy day.
Kristin - Good luck for today!
Hi Lindsay! - It's fascinating to me too -yet incredibly annoying.
When a government falls, the prime minister has to give his resignation letter to the king who'll either accept or refuse it. They are now saying it is unsure whether the king will accept the resignation.
I feel like I'm giving you all a play by play of that! LOL ;-D
Sandy - your totes are super cute and would be a great auction item.
Kristin - would your sister donate something scentsy (sp)?
Corinne - what happens if the King does not accept? My roomate in college was a princess (albeit her family lives in exile). The whole royal family thing is both interesting and so totally dysfunctional behind the scenes...
Kristin- good luck!
Corinne- I was thinking a more *general overview of your government. :)
Margaret- I will try to come up with something, but no guarantees. Not sure what I have available to use.
I'm cleaning out my office today - it's gotten to the point there are so many piles of papers and junk I can't function!
Margaret - Actually, the king has very little power in Belgium. Accepting the prime minister's resignation is basically the only decision he is allowed to make *freely. Fo a law to be passed, the king does have to sign it but if both the Senate and the Chamber of representants passed it, the king *can't refuse to sign it. (Art 36 & 37 of the Constitution).
Anyways, if the king refuses the resignation - which, IMO, would be a really bad move - then the government will be forced to stay in place and find a solution to its issues. As evidenced by the latest events, the government, as is, simply cannot agree on anything.
Morning! Taiya, I really hope the unisom helps.
Kristin- have a good day. Deive safe, and see you tonight.
Corinne- have you finished South of Broad yet??
Sandy in our school system there is a rule that the teacher can't share any information about any other student. So if some kid *bites my kid, they can't say who the other kid was. Privacy stuff. That email is very close to being against those rules. Especially b/c it is identifiable as C pretty easily. If I were you I would forward it to the principal, with a note.
Totally OT, but does anyone else keep getting the chinese porn comments on their blog? If so, how do I make it stop?
EL - Almost! I should be done tomorrow :) It is great!
I do get this Chinese porn comments, that's why I started moderating comments. It's the only I could make it stop.
sadly, I also skimmed over the talk on legalizing drugs...but hopefully tonight I can catch up.
Margaret- I will email you in a bit. I can donate something.
Lindsay- are you doing the PTA Pres thing? I thought of that late last night....my brain is a strange place! ;)
*these
Isn't it Corinne? It is like his earlier books.
Re : drug legalization.
I am A-ok with the legalization of 'soft drugs', on the condition that they be taxed in order to ensure a supplementary revenue for the government. The reason I think taxation should be implemented is that legalizing soft drugs would cause the number of addicts to rise, with the subsequent health issues that would in turn impact the economy.
I am against the legalization of 'hard drugs' because I see no reason why highly dangerous and addictive substances should be freely available. It would be bad for public health, bad for the economy, bad for the overall safety of people so it's a no-no in my book.
EL - Definitely. It makes me want to re-read 'the prince of tides'!
Morning.
I stayed up late last night finishing Dear John. I haven never read a Nick Sparks book or seen a movie from his books. I was a little eh at the ending.
I'm trying to decide if I should start another book or wait until May 4 when the newest Sookie Stackhouse books comes out.
Oh the agony of the daily decisions I have to make.
Good Morning All :)
Taiya: you are pg and due in about a month, right? If so I urge you to look up cholestatis as per your itchiness. My oldest daughter had that with her 2nd pregnancy and they ended up delivering the baby early. ItchyMoms (dot) com has a great info site about it.
Morning Hd.
Chinese porn comments - oh for heaven's sake.
I didn't see Cheryl come back either. I know I'm new to cyberland but I cannot believe these women who make up all kinds of alias' and chase each other around the internet making threats and calling names. WTF!
EL - yessss. ::Groan:: The drama-rama has started already and I haven't even been "officially" voted in yet. The upside, one of my best friends is going to be treasurer and we get a hotel room for the night so we can go to the state conference. Paid for by the PTA. Woo Hoo!
Jill - I was *so disappointed at the ending of that book. Ugh. Have you read Stephanie Plum books?
Lindsay- there is a *lot of drama that goes with that position! When I was pres I had one parent approach me in the *grocery store to see if I could get the school to stay in session for a week longer. They had a week gap between summer break and camp starting. WTF???
I saw The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks. The one with Hannah Montana. It was good but that girl can't act.
Lindsay, no one wants to even join our PTA b/c it's so political.
Lindsey I have read the first Stephanie Plum book. I need to check out the rest. My in-laws (the good side) love them.
Glad to see it's the same everywhere and we don't just corner the market on crazy. It's the political-ness of it all that has kept so many people from doing anything with it. And yet it's so important - especially with all the funding cuts. For crying out loud, our PTA actually bought paper to give to the school. Paper! That's how bad things are in Washington. So I'm just going to pray I don't go postal on people and hope people get back involved. And yeah. Like the pta pres can convince the district to keep school in longer. Ha!
Jill - you will love them if you like Sookie Stackhouse. I actually laugh out loud when reading them.
The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks was *really good with a satisfying ending.
Our PTA is run by about 10 blondies in their tennis skirts who hang at the school constantly. When around them I feel like Carrie on prom night - pre pig blood and masacre. I don't go to meetings because they are usually during work hours. I pay my dues and work on a committee that raises money for our homeless students.
i didn't say i'd donate to the silent auction. since i've been invoked, though, i think i will be glad to. i didn't think photos fell in the craft category.
i've done it before for Jonah's auction. of course, i don't know if anyone would buy, let alone bid on a picture.
so. is an 8x10 good? (:
M - I promise not to hang out in my tennis skirt at school :) Unless that means I can get a cute tennis instructor . . . I kid, I kid! That's how this year was, though, and that's what really turned people off.
wow
that sounded crabby. sorry
i'm going to take some coffee
alright ladies - I'll miss you - the big boss just got here - only 30 minutes late :)
Have a good one and hopefully I will see ya tonight!
Behave and don't talk too much!
Happy Earth Day!
Good morning, White Trash ladies!
I'm trying to think of something to donate to the silent auction.
Good Morning - I got an email from someone here letting me know you were wondering about where I was. Funny I didn't see any posted message to me saying "you've got mail". I guess she wants to remain anonymous. You just can't trust anybody. Anyway, just to set the record straight, I am not chicken shit, and I do have balls. I really just don't have time to play your games. And Margaret, I don't know you, you don't know me - so in your words WTF!
Good morning!
I'm trying to get to know the ladies I haven't been familiar with yet, but Taiya, I hope you find some relief for the itchiness!
Margaret - I would be happy to donate something for the silent auction. My e-mail address is on my blog profile when you are ready.
I don't know Sookie Stackhouse - will have to look for it. Jill, I love the Stephanie Plum books and all the crazy characters.
Margaret - I laughed out loud at the PTA description.
Lindsay - Good luck to you on being the PTA President, right now I'm the lowly corresponding secretary and I don't plan on going for President, ever. We had our monthly meeting last night. I can at least say we have a good group of people. I understand how daunting the fund raising can be, people get tired of hearing that we need money for student events, but as soon as you cut something, parents go nuts.
Hi Cheryl. You didn't get email from me, but I think maybe you and I have gone enough rounds in the past and managed to get past it that we'll be okay. Or not.
Are you off trotting around the globe, or home?
Maybe this has been mentioned before, but what about Facebook for Chris/Elisabeth? You know how you can "join causes" or "groups" or whatever? I have no idea how you'd set that up, either, but it'd get the Caring Bridge site out there to a lot of people that way.
I know Deb. I really am thinking a made mistake of gigantic proportions. But, they were talking about just dumping the pta altogether, and I just couldn't let that happen. Or worse, let the same board run it even more into the ground. Aaaaack! Hopefully this will just be a growth experience for me!
lindsay
you'll do great
Thanks TWG. :)
So, I just read Kelly's Korner, and I felt so much better about myself. She posted a pic of a pile of clean laundry on her sofa with the dog laying on top. What a lady!
Lindsay - I think if you have the time to dedicate to it, and you are dedicated to the greater good of your children and their education, you will do just fine ::no pressure there, huh??::
I still work, so there is no way for me to get *that involved right now.
Of course, Kathryn isn't even in kindergarten yet, so we'll be at that school for a long time. I should never say never. Or nominate my husband! HAH!
have a great day!
Kristin, I'm sorry!
bye kristin!
I tried to get my husband to do it, and he said (and I quote) "Nah, I couldn't work with those PTA b*tches. You'll be great."
What the heck was that supposed to mean?
Bye Kristin - and wear your seatbelt!
Deb - maybe it will go so swimmingly for me this year, you'll be inspired to put your hat in the ring next year :p
Hi RiM - we have gone around on a few subjects, and have even agreed on some! I am trotting around the globe, again.
RiM the Sookie Stackhouse books are what the tv show True Blood is based on. They are vampire books, but aren't like the Twilight books.
RiM - That is a good idea about the Facebook group
My sister has all my jewelry on the other side of the state. I will whip some stuff up tonight. I don't know the whole chris story yet but you guys are awesome for helping and i would be happy to be apart of it.
Cheryl - who enters a room, bashes the people in it and calls them white trash. I know this is the internet but in IRL that's the equivalent of what you did. And no, I don't know you and don't care to.
Alrighty - I'm out for yoga. Hope you ladies have a fantastic day. I'll catch you later!
Trudy! I always wanted to buy some of your jewelry. When things went all haywire on the internet and everybody broke up, I completely forgot all about it! Oooh, I'm so excited to see what you make up.
I'm out for a while too ladies. Play nice! Save a lawn chair and some Schlitz for me!
Bye Lindsay - I'm jealous you get to go to yoga!
Good morning. Woke up with a Nyquil hangover and no fever.
I don't do drama, but I have to say that for those of you who "know" Cheryl, you already have your own opinions. For those who don't I will offer mine. While the white trash thing was nasty, Cheryl is generally good people. And she is not hiding behind any false identity anymore than most people online. If you got to know her, you might like her. I do. No one is kind all of the time. But Cheryl is one who is kind more often than not. Just my opinion.
I will second RF's sentiments - Cheryl is a good person. I just think sometimes when things get a little ugly, some may be more passionate about their feelings than others.
As for Chris - I learned about him from the MWOP site and saw the whole JM debacle. I'm so glad to be able to come over here to see a group of ladies who are willing to step up and help him!
Who needs JM, really.
Trudy! Just looked up and realized you posted - I'll never forgive you for that *&()*&^ cake ball idea :)
Good morning, Daisies.
4.5 hours sleep = tired me but have crap to do today. Hope a nap is in order this afternoon.
Margaret- Crafts For Chris sounds great! I will try and find something to donate also and would love to pass on the auction info to friends/family.
Rhys- we did invoke you last night didn't we? I'm sorry if I/we put you on the spot. Thought you had mentioned it yesterday but I must have been thinking about something you said on MWOP about selling a print (?). I just want to buy one of your prints. =)
Kristin- sounds like a long-ass rough day.
Lindsay- I cannot even imagine the PTA thing. I loved your husband's comment, LOL. I do look forward to hearing PTA bitch stories though. ;)
Sandy- hope today goes better for y'all! I still just can't get over the e-mail. =( Just not right at all.
Taiya- I didn't have the itching when pg but it sounds awful.
Corrine- that govt. stuff is so over my head, LOL.
Hope everybody has a good day. Off to run some errands.
I didn't know cakes had balls :)
i'm just tired of the meanness.
cheryl is nice. so is ap. and rim. and i've pretty much liked everyone.
you might not like everyone, but i was taught you didn't have to say that out loud so everyone could hear you.
eh. it's a crappy thursday. i get to go hear more about delays and development and all kinds of crap no one should hear. so i am crabby. and customer service hung up on me. o yea.
good morning Rhys - i'm sorry your heard more of things you didn't want to.
Margaret - LOL! Now, are you Margaret from Alexandria with a new avatar? I don't want to be so confused so quickly!
Umm.. who is Cheryl? And why did she call us white trash? ::tentatively waves at Cheryl while contemplating the white trash comment :D::
Did a baking soda bath which made the itching intensify, but then put Palmer's Cocoa Butter Oil on it which made it feel better. When I talked to the nurse at my OB she said, and I quote, "It's a pain in the butt and it will probably get worst before the end." Lovely. Oh, well, in the scheme of things it is really no big deal. i have been extremely healthy, Eeq is doing great. I can deal with very much itchiness and very little sleep.
hd- thanks for the concern! I googled itchiness last night and it brought up cholestasis(or whatever it's called) and I have zero of the symptoms besides some itchiness and mine is localized to my legs. I called the OB just to double check, but since I was in yesterday and they had a general look they are not concerned. No history of liver problems in my family at all, very healthy pregnancies between the 2 I have had, BP is great, so nothing to be concerned about.
aw taiya
i feel so badly that the baking soda made it worse ):
i'm sorry. swear, it had helped me.
boo to the itchies. do they itch if you're wearing something like super soft cotton leggings? i wonder if contact, firm contact might help
i don't know. ):
Rhys, I worked *hard for this reputation as a hardass, and I'll not have you coming in here ruining it by saying I'm nice! I won't have it! :-D
Yep it's Margaret from Alexandria :)
Morning all! Catching up on comments:
Corinne said: “BUT if it were to be split, the rights of French-speaking people living in Hal & Vilvoorde (both in Flanders ) would be highly impacted (as in they'd be forbidden to speak French in official institutions, etc.)” Corinne, that is very interesting! The government “falls”? People not allowed to speak French? Wow. Keep us posted, okay?
Kristin, hope your meeting goes well. We’ll miss you today!
Margaret, your roommate was a princess? That’s cool! Did you like her?
Lindsay, I love Kelley Stamps. I don’t have anything in the world in common with her, but think she’s terrific.
The Cheryl I knew at SIP I liked a lot. She’s interesting, we had things in common and I felt like we could have been good friends. But I was disappointed that twice she has come to Daisy just to stir up trouble, when no one from Daisy never did anything to her, to my knowledge. The first time she came to Daisy (a few months ago) she was warmly welcomed, and responded with defensiveness and near hostility. The second time she called us white trash. I don’t understand that. (I mean, I understand that some of us are white trash, clearly. ;-) I just don’t understand the need to come here and tell us that.)
Rhys, I agree that meanness is bad. I don't think discussing things like this is mean though, if that's what you meant. I think it's healthy to air grievances in a respectful way, so that people can perhaps reach common understandings and move on. I get that to some people discussion about these sorts of things comes across as overly confrontational and they don't like it, though.
Made some brownies with DD (from a box). I am really just putting off running uptown to get some eggs so I can make Abby Cadabby and some cupcakes.
Seriously, Rhys. Robin and AP are bitches. Not nice. ::nodding::
I'm sorry your day is crappy, Rhys. Hang in there.
SW - "it's healthy to air grievances"
are you raising your Festivus pole early this year?
Lindsay (when you are back from yoga)- you will do great. The big thing is not to be too accomodating. If you can't do it, say so and delegate. If there is no $$ for teacher requests, just say no. It is hard to do, but I am wishy washy and was too sissy to speak up. It caused way more stress than needed!
I had a roommate who was an Indian Princess. Like saris, not moccassins; or dot not feather. She was a PITA.
Rhys- I totally wasn't trying to make you feel bad! Not a big deal. I was reading online and that was primary suggestion. I didn't even remember who suggested it. Not a problem. The cocoa butter helped and otherwise I will just keep trying stuff and see if anything works. If not then I will just deal with it. Another suggestion was oatmeal baths, so we'll see.
It occurred to me that it might be this new Aveeno lotion I have been using the last few days so I am holding out hope that that is it and if I quit using it it will go away!
Deb, ha!
Deb FTW with the Seinfeld reference.
Deb -- Festivus. I just saw that one again the other day, and it is just one of those episodes that is just as funny every single time I see it.
Taiya -- I did not end up making that NYC cheesecake (was not able to sell firstborn in time to buy the necessary amount of cream cheese) but I did make a new recipe that was really easy, really fast, and very good, if you want it. I did the cherry topping from the NYC cheesecake, though, and it was really good.
EL - I want to be your friend, and I'll try to say this respectfully, and not call you any names, but that snake just might be a deal-breaker for me. :-D That said, I know nothing about snakes, except that they are evil and must be destroyed, but I have an IRL friend who had a python of some sort and that thing refused to eat for something like seven months. They would put the rat/mouse in, whatever, and they would torture the crap out of each other, but she wouldn't eat. When she finally did eat, it was like there was no tomorrow. Weird. So that's my ever so helful snake story.
sw
grievance airing is good
i'm not expressing myself well
i don't like that there is a need for airing grievances.
cos i'm idealistic like that and like to think that people can just get along.
i'm sillylike thta
RiM. Sure! I would love it. I am all for cheesecake recipes. :)
Umm... can you get my e-mail from AP and e-mail me? I don't want to post it on here. Not because of the daisies, but you know... Otherwise you can just put it in the daisies recipes and I will grab it.
Taiya - I've used Bath and Body works shower gel for years and loved it. About six months ago I got this itchy, itchy almost like rash on my shoulders and back, went to the doctor even who said it was ... something, and it would go away in a couple weeks. It didn't,and I started messing with that kind of stuff, and stopped using the BBW. Cleared up. I still refused to think it was that since I've used it so long, started using it again, and it came back. So ... no more BBW for me. :(
taiya
you didn't make me feel bad. i just hate giving an idea and finding out it hurt not helped.
aveeno and i go way back in the hate-hate-hate dept. good luck!
deb
i just often feel 'what's the point?' i'm a whiner.
RiM- that's a sad story! I love BBW. The only reason why I think it might not be the lotion is that I don't actually have a rash of any sort. Just phantom itchiness. We'll see, though. I'll live and if I have to deal with it for a few more weeks I'll have Eeq after it and won't care!
Rhys, you're not silly. You're just very sweet. :-)
Get my sister and I together, especially traveling by air together, and everything is a Seinfeld episode - we love it!
"AP - I will be back tonight, just won't be able to chat during the day :("
Oh, well, I'm just glad we'll see you tonight. :-)
Corinne, I think that's very interesting about your government. With the level of dissatisfaction growing here, I can see that possibly happening to us, at least a form of it, in the near future.
Good morning, all!
Taiya - I'll post it in the recipes, but I'll still get your email from AP,and then I'll just bug you all day with tweet-updates. Just blew my nose. There is a dead fly on my windowsill. Do you like kites? Stuff like that. :-D
I have a great idea..... lets not talk about snakes anymore. thank you.
hiya trudy!
sw
i'm not sweet. swear.
RiM- It is ok. I know I am *really pushing my luck with you. First with the dilike/hatred of rib roast, pea soup, and country music (b.a.r.f). Now with the snake (who's name is Bert. doesn't that make him more loveable?) ::sigh:: We can get through this.
SW - that's what I meant about Cheryl - the two times I've seen her pop up it's been drive-by drama.
Sorry Trudy.
Bert the snake, that is funny EL! Does the snake belong to your college bound and will it go with him?
This is slightly OT, but my friend, the one with the boy at Salisbury? He caught a bass a few years ago and kept it in a huge fish tank. Now the thing is huge, the boy is away at college and my friend has to feed this thing live goldfish. She can't wait for him to come home for summer!
I'm going to discuss this with Trudy behind your back, EL. We will decide if Bert is the final straw. ::shakes head sadly and avoids eye contact:::
uh-oh, sorry Trudy...
What is a PITA?
I liked the princess very much until she moved back to europe and left me with her stuff and her boyfriend.
"Good morning girls - I suggested the auction for Chris and would LOVE to set it up and manage it."
Margaret, thank you! Should I do a separate page like our recipe page or is everyone okay with it here? Y'all's call. And um, "Cheryl" is an alias?
Rhys, you crabby-sounding thing *grins*, thank you...your photos are lovely and I bet one would go fast! Thank you.
Kristin, I meant to ask, was this your brand new vacuum you tossed the canister on?
Deb - the fish thing reminds me of this thing I saw on Animal Planet where ... somewhere, not the United States. (helpful, huh?) ... there are these big-ass *catfish and they freakin' *eat people. And cows. Or wildebeasts or whatever. I was having convulsions just watching these dumb cows wading around in the water, and the people going out there to herd them. Who knew catfish were killers?
AP- I'd like a separate page (since it's all about me, and all). Because I'd link it on Facebook and a couple other pages and I don't necessarily need my brother or some friends from Facebook wandering into Daisy, you know? But I'll go along (grumbling, but nonetheless) with whatever you decide.
Welllllll Hmmmmm
I have to say that what AP said last night with the difference with Cheryl and R2 is so right on. I am very very glad that R2 came here and actually stuck around and not only answered questions but also listened to those questions and participated in a dialogue. A lot of us knew there were issues between some and R2 and I am glad that for the most part that is now all worked out.
Now Cheryl, I am sorry what I remember of you on SIP you were very friendly and nice....apparently that was just a face you put on since you now come over here and use terms like white trash to describe people you used to be friendly with. I never had an issue with you and kind of missed hearing of your adventures....nice to know how you really feel. Unfortunately now I dont know that I want to have you pop in because it is obvious that it will not be a nice or friendly experience because you are just going to come in unprovoked and start being nasty.....thanks but I will pass. I think it is pretty unfortunate because like others have said as far as SIP goes you are a very nice person but apparently where Daisy is concerned you have to be ugly....sorry.
Oh and sorry everyone.....Good Morning.
Margaret -- PITA = pain in the ass.
bookjunkie
no one put me on the spot
like i said, i was grumpy. sorry. /:
anyway. i would donate 1 or 2 prints, depending on what people find appropriate.
Cheryl said:
"Good Morning - I got an email from someone here letting me know you were wondering about where I was."
and
"Funny I didn't see any posted message to me saying "you've got mail"."
Um, Babe, you need to keep your stories straight. If you didn't see anyone announce "you've got mail" to you, then you were reading here already and didn't need anyone to email you to let you know I asked about you.
But that's okay. I just wanted to confirm with you that I answered your questions to me in a satisfactory manner. Did I? I don't like lose ends. :-)
when i was in high school my sister had a big oscar fish. one day when i was babysitting for my neices the fucker jumpped out and landed on the heat duck. i left him until she got home and one of his eyes dryed out. that was over 20 years ago and the fish is still alive.
Robin I think those catfish were from some place in China....I dont remember exactly.
RiM - I've not heard of the man-eating catfish, but that "noodling" thing they do in the South - they catch some big ass catfish - by hand! My friend from Arkansas has seen it and says it is unreal.
Same friend from Arkansas - his brother in law has a large pond with bass in it and they hand feed them hotdogs.
Trudy -- that is very funny. We had a fish tank when I was little and my mom started buying all these 'exotic' (heh) fish, and one of them was some kind of little shark, and that bastard kept jumping out, plus he kept killing other fish, so she got pissed, took him out, ran tap water in a big gallon glass jar, poked holes in the lid and threw him in there. He lived for freakin' ever.
Shannon - I think you are right. I do not do well with water and things you can't see brushing up against you anyway, and that just freaked me right out.
Deb - I have seen that on fishing shows before, too, and it freaks me out. Stick your hand in a hole underwater and hope a catfish tries to swallow your arm. Sounds fun!
Trudy - that is a funny story, and it's still alive, wow!
I hate to leave this discussion, but I'm starving - going to look for lunch.
BBL!
Robin I am so with you!!! I have a really hard time being in water where I cant see my feet. The thought of trying to get a big ass fish to swallow my arm does not sound like fun LOL
Stephanie Plum books are really good, fun reads...just mind fluff but that's good sometimes.
RF, I don't recall anything bad about Cheryl from OHIH and SIP, which is why I'm been very much shocked at some of the things various people from SIP have told me she's said. But whatever, I didn't ask to know and it wasn't my business to comment on what said there. But for her to pop in here like that? It's not "staying on SIP" any longer and I think it's fine for me to say she had me fooled in my previous, positive opinion of her.
AP - here's what I was thinking. I'll set up a separate blog "Crafts for Chris". Each item will have a picture with a description, who donated it and the opening bid amount. In the comments is where people will bid. For example - put up a picture of a sock puppet from AP, minimum bid $2.00 minimum raise 50 cents. Say we start the auction next Monday - closing on Friday at 5 pm. Whoever is the last bidder at 5 pm wins the item. I'll contact the person that won via e-mail and ask for the address the item is to be mailed to, they pay for the item via paypal to Elisabeth (naturally I need to work out this out with Elisabeth), and then I'll give the mailing address to the donator for them to mail the item to the winning bidder.
On the alias - sorry, I mixed two things together into one. The first was about dropping in for drive-by drama. The second was about people making up names and chasing each other around the internet.
who do i give the link to for the gallery, or do i just pick a picture?
i hate picking. someone else pick something that would mass-appeal to people
Robin, the facebook idea is good!
Rhys, I'm so sorry about what you're facing today. I hope it goes better than you fear. :-(
I also wish we lived in a world where everyone could get along, but it just doesn't work that way. I really don't think it's mean to tell someone you don't like them or whatever, as long as it's done in a not-ugly manner; what's mean is letting them thing you do. Imo, anyway.
I need to hit up the fabric store for ideas for Chris' auction. Hmmm...maybe I could make something out of a sari.
EL - Bert the snake? That's awesome. Well, except for the snake part ;-D
Deb - I didn't know that bass could live so long!
OT - Belgian crisis follow-up -
So, the 'Vlaams Belang' (Flemish nationalist/extreme right party) came into the Chamber of Representants, holding a banner that read 'Split Belgium' and singing the 'Vlaamse leeuw' (Flemish anthem which has become a symbol of separatism).
The king has asked the representants to withhold the vote on 'BHV' while he is consulting, deciding what to do with the resignation.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely sad. I'm both Flemish and Walloon and I certainly will never choose between one or the other.
SW - The Flemish government was sentenced by the European court of Human rights because it was infringing the rights of the French-speaking people. There was an unspoken agreement made by the head of the towns surrounding Brussels (all in Flanders) to not allow French-speaking people to buy houses there. Yup. Lovely country.
corinne
the idea of banning someone's heart language is barbaric to me.
having grown up being forbidden to speak spanish in school (private church school), i have a small understanding of that.
Corinne, is the government fall done peacefully? No violence? Because that's at least a good thing, if so.
There are still a few towns in Alabama where there are no African Americans. None. If any try and settle there, they are made to feel unwelcome until they leave. It's appalling.
Rhys, it's your call, but maybe just saying whoever won the auction could choose an 8 x 10 from your gallery?
Oooo, yeah, what Robin said!
Taiya-Just a thought on the itching thing-apparently there's a old wives tale or something saying that if you're itchy during you're pregnancy that your baby will have a head full of hair. It actually ended up being a true statement for a friend who recently had a baby. He's already had 2 haircuts and he's only 3 months old.
Hi to everyone else!
Rhys - It is very pathetic, indeed.
SW - The fall was peaceful - as in there was no physical violence - but tension is rising. I hope things remain civil. I don't think Belgium will split, per se, as the procedure would be very difficult and would compromise the place of our nation in the EU - with the implications this would have - but this is the most serious crisis we've ever had to face. Not that we didn't see it coming.
Hi Melissa - two haircuts in three months? Wow!
Oh, and I promise I'm done hogging the boards with Belgium-related comments ;-D
I like the idea of being able to pick as long as you don't mind giving out the link to a broad audience. I'd like to see a lot of other people besides daisies bidding. That said e-mail me the link shimargar at aol.
Corinne-I couldn't believe it either. It'll be interesting to see if it grows that quickly as he gets older.
Apparently my un-dead self broke it!
Shannon said "Now Cheryl, I am sorry what I remember of you on SIP you were very friendly and nice....apparently that was just a face you put on"
Yep.
AP said"she had me fooled in my previous, positive opinion of her. "
Yep, though I saw through her...if anyone is up someone's ass it's her.
And the best for last...
Cheryl said" Anyway, just to set the record straight, I do have balls.
Jill are you still here? Make sure you alert Cheryl to this, too.
Corinne - I'll have to start paying more attention to what's going on in your Country. Sounds sad. On a VERY minor note - my daughter's blanket (cowie) is from Belgium. She got him when she was a baby and still sleeps with him on her head. He was getting really gross so I ordered 5 more from Belgium. I put some "cowie on vacation" pictures up on my blog for you :)
Robin, the facebook idea is good!
Rhys, I'm so sorry about what you're facing today. I hope it goes better than you fear. :-(
I also wish we lived in a world where everyone could get along, but it just doesn't work that way.
Chris' auction - I'm not sure I've got the dexterity right now for a craft, but I do have a piece of jewelry - it's very nice, brand new and in a gift box - that I'd be glad to donate. Would it screw things up since it's not a craft, Margaret?
margaret
i don't mind lots of people looking. it's our 'meat' money. (:
i'll send you the link to the galleries.
Hi Christy!
Margaret - Is it a 'noukie' blanket? I know that's a Belgian brand and they have the cutest stuff!
Melissa - you didn't break it!
all done, margaret, i emailed you
Corinne, I think what's going on in your country is fascinating, and I can tell that others do too. You're not boring us!
Hi Corinne. How are the skies today?
corinne
my secret confession: i read international news more than US news.
cos i'm weird. mostly africa, indonesia, india, mexico, and peru
The only international news I get is on my Blackberry, which, for some reason, thinks I'm Canadian, and calls up Canadian news on GoogleNews.
"AP - here's what I was thinking. I'll set up a separate blog "Crafts for Chris". Each item will have a picture with a description, who donated it and the opening bid amount."
Margaret, it['s a great idea, thank you!
Melissa, I'm glad to see you made it through another night alive. ;-)
Yep, Cowie is a Noukie.
Sw - Aww. Thanks! :)
Christy - Planes are flying, sun is shining.
I could write a song :-D
How are you?
Rhys - You're not weird!
AP-after checking the obits that day it turns out that the I actually knew of the Melissa that passed away. (she was one of my customers at work) So that was really erie for me.
Careful with those song lyrics Corinne :)
Margaret - Lola the cow is so, so cute! My mom's godson's daughter has one that she takes e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e! I love Noukie's stuff!
Christy - LOL! ;-D
I also think the Crafts for Chris is a great idea. I'm not very crafty but I bake. Baked goods may not ship well though. I'll have to see if I can comeup with something else to contribute.
Howdy! No yoga for me. Every time I took a deep breath I'd start coughing. Pooh. I missed it this week.
Cowie pictures made my day :) And Hannah was an added bonus!
Melissa - that freaks me the heck out that you knew the deceased Melissa.
"AP-after checking the obits that day it turns out that the I actually knew of the Melissa that passed away. (she was one of my customers at work) So that was really erie for me."
That is eerie, there being any kind of connection even.
Lindsay-Really freaked me out too.
Joe Biden looks like a Cheeto on the View today.
Christy - I wanted to email you but I realized your email address is not linked in your profile. Are you ok to give it here ? Or maybe you could email me (email is in my profile) so I'd have it? I have a question (which is linked to a conspiracy to take over OD and then, the world ;-D )
Okay, calling all fragrance whores! I just found the *best smelling soap. It's by Dial and it's cranberry & antioxidant glycerin soap. It smells so yummy. I haven't tried it yet, so I don't know how it works, but it smells fantastic!

Yes, you said this...
