'Tis Friday.

Show of hands - who relates?
I want to give credit to who sent this to me but I can't remember even though it was less than 24 hours ago.  That's so sad.  Anyway, give yourself credit, if you aren't shy and want to.  I know many of you are shy like me, though.  So, it's noon and 6pm again and will be from here on out...I'll not bother announcing it anymore.

Lastly, while I know things are finally headed in the right direction for him, they aren't there yet.  It's Friday, it's payday, please consider helping  Chris out,  even just a bit if that's all you can do.  We've helped him get this far, let's see it through...please?

Thanks for the west coast translation, Kaytie. :-) I'm reading back but not retaining much...blah. I can't remember what I wanted to reply to. Sorry, I did read it all and had responses in my head. That counts, right?

For all you gardeners, I need help. I'm looking for shrubs or full trees (full from near ground level) that are subtropical/tropical hardy, grow very fast and with some spread and that can reach a height of at least 6'. Evergreen is preferable but not really required. I need to grow a screen between me and Crazy Shirley and I need about 80' of whatever I do to be covered. I'd do bougainvillea but I've already used it in several places in the yard and would like something different, if possible. Any ideas?

AP - Like I said, it was silly and no worries. I like your new post better. Hope you don't feel so icky in the morning. ((())) I caught a second wind after DH got home late, and I will be a *hurting unit getting up at 5:30 am. OY!

Laurel hedges are a blessing around here for *battening up the hatches.
In Kaui, which might be a more similar climate to you, I loved the Poinsettia privacy hedges. They were gorgeous.
:::scratching head and trying to remember my trips to Florida and what they used for privacy hedges::: When we were looking for houses in Clearwater and adjacent areas, I was surprised at the lack of privacy *bordering. What about camelia or lilac trees? Not bushes.

Morning Daisies!
AP- what about Hibiscus? We had those as a hedge at out house in Gulfport and they were taller than I am. And they were so low maintenance. I dont know how big you can buy them but they work well in Tampa Bay. I lost a few topiary Hibiscus in this house with the cold weather this year but that was because I didnt cover them like an idiot!

Brie said...

Or you could try Philodendron. We have them around my pond here and they are HUGE but they grow out and up so they take up alot of space.
I know neither one is an evergreen but since I'm a Florida transplant I love the tropical plants!

Morning all. Bella, did we get a better night's sleep?

CK - You just missed me :(

Thank you all for the birthday wishes yesterday. I really appreciated it.

Good morning, all! Le FreaCK, I have lots more.

Happy Friday everybody! Corinne, you didn't tell us what you did for your birthday. Did you have fun?

AP, Cypress trees are used for privacy screening in South Alabama. They are evergreen, full and thick and make a great barrier.

SW - My grandmother was hospitalized yesterday morning in serious condition, so I went to spend some time with her.
My birthday celebration plans have been postponed for now. My g-ma matters more :)

I got great gifts though.

So sorry to hear about your grandmother Corinne.

Morning all! Wild day yesterday and I didn't get to catch up with all you devious wenches last night. What's new, in a "nut"shell?

twirldawg said...

Not much new, CK is evil and vile, but that is old news.

How is the girl?

Robin in Montana said...

I did read that CK is not only *CK, but also Bella and GM and someone named Marina. I bow to her ability to be so busy and yet appear so darn *normal. How *do you do it, CK? ::cackle::

Jill - she seems pretty much back to normal this morning. Her face is swollen on the side where the teeth were pulled, but she said nothing hurts, she doesn't feel sick, etc. After I posted yesterday on FB she threw up and so she ended up having to go *back into prompt care just to make sure she hadn't had a concussion or that there wasn't something more going on.

I know lots of parents have had to deal, and continue to deal with, much scarier stuff, but for me and Katie, with our little "nothing ever goes wrong health-wise" existence, it was scarier than hell.

Robin in Montana said...

Happy belated birthday, Corinne, and I am sorry to hear about your grandmother.

Hi Jill and RiM!
Thank you both.

RiM - I have to catch up on FB to see what happened with Katie.

twirldawg said...

RiM anytime something happens to your kid it is scary.

Shannon said...

Catching up....Um Robin what did I miss? What happened to the girl? How do a concussion and teeth pulling go together? Why did she need teeth pulling? How in the hell did i miss that?

Shannon said...

And morning ladies...Corinne I hope your g-ma is better soon

Robin in Montana said...

Shannon - She had some molars that had decayed from underneath. (Still has one that needs to be pulled). The dentist said they could do basically a "kid root canal" but given that she'll lose those molars in a year to two anyway, it just made more sense to pull them. One of them had abcessed, so there was a lot of infection and they kept giving her more and more pain killer while they were pulling it. Everyone says it had nothing to do with what happened, but I wonder, you know?

Anyway. Both teeth pulled, it's noon or so and she says she's hungry, but she wants to wait for the bleeding to stop to eat, so we run to Pamida and the grocery store (we're in Libby, over an hour from home, and no cell service in between, so I wanted to kind of hang out for a bit, anyway.)

In teh grocery store, she says she thinks chocolate milk would feel good, so I get that. At the checkout stand, she looks at me and she just looked really "off," and she said, "I don't feel good," I went to take the lid off the milk, and her eyes rolled, and she was just out, fainted, and fell totally flat on her back, hard enough that her little head bounced, on the concrete floor. Was out for a little bit - probably not long, but it felt like a long time, and when she came to she was kind of convulsing/something, trying to hit, kick, stand up, making this like groaning/screaming noise. I was trying to hold her still and keep her from getting up, etc. Anyway, TWO ambulances came (it's a small town, business is slow, heh) cops, etc. Checked her all out, said she had just fainted from a reaction to the stress to her body and drop in blood pressure, etc. Told me it was okay to go home, so we did. But then about an hour after we got home, she said her head was really hurting and she was putting the blanket over her head to keep the light and sound out, and she was really hot. I had to go get Cami from dance, and didn't want her to stay home alone, so we wrapped her all up in a blanket and I got her stood up and headed for the door, ran in the kitchen to get a glass of water for her, came back around the corner, and she was laying on the floor. I asked if she fell and she said she didn't know, but she thought maybe she laid down on her own. Eyes totally goofy and she was just not "there." Anyway, at that point I figured I would try to find someone else to get Cami, and I went to put my arms around her to help her up again, and she just *projectile threw up, everywhere. So ... called urgent care and they said she probably ought to be checked again just to make sure she didn't have concussion. So. That's that. Like I said, she seems to be totally herself again this morning.

Angie said...

Holy crap, Robin. I didn't realize quite how serious it was. That sounds awful and terrifying!

Corinne, I'm very sorry to hear that your grandmother is in the hospital.

Robin in Montana said...

It was funny at urgent care, the doctor was asking her stuff like what day/date it was, what her teacher's name was, grade, her birthday, to count to 20, stuff to see if she was alert and all that, I guess, and then he asked her to count backward from 80 by twos, and I saw her look at me like, "WHU???" but she took off doing it. When we got in the car she goes, Mom, I don't even know how to do that on a *good day! lol.

Shannon said...

OMG that would scare the hell out of me. My stomach is all in knots just reading what all happened....it took me a minute because my eyes kept crossing LOL.

Hopefully she is done with the scary stuff. Did they get her on antibiotics for the abscessed tooth? That would be more of a concern to me then the pain killer. I had my wisdom teeth on one side do almost the same thing. They didnt abscess but I know that can be a pretty serious thing since there is really a super highway to the brain. I know way too much about stuff like that with my mom being a dental assistant most of my life.

Keep a close eye on her and I hope she just gets better now that those yucky teeth are out.

Shannon said...

"Mom, I don't even know how to do that on a *good day! lol."

Robin that is what I think every time I watch COPS or the like with the field sobriety tests. I could be stone cold sober and they would say I was drunk. I have no balance and my brain is too all over the place especially in stressful situations like that.

Robin in Montana said...

Shannon - they did give her an antibiotic, yes, and I have heard that infection in teeth can be very serious.

And I hear you on the FST's. I have been typing DUI cases and in my office, all by my little ol' lonesome, tried to do some of them, and anything that requires balance is an automatic fail for me, without the added stress of being in front of a cop with lights a'blaring and people staring. I do especially well with the ol' heel-toe walk and turn and the Rohmberg balance test with counting. To quote Ron White, "I got as far as 'whooops'."

RiM - OMG! It is very, very scary! It's very possible that too much painkiller did that. I don't think there's any way to prove it but wow!

I'm glad she's okay now, though.

Thank you, SW and Shannon.

Shannon said...

Robin good that they got her on the antib's. It is a lot to get molars pulled....I swear when they did the wisdoms on the side where they were rotting (they didnt fully come out of the gums) they had to break them into pieces.....never again LOL

Oh I have been doing the Wii Fit to work on getting into better shape and loose some weight. Yeah I have a hell of time with the balance routines....we get to about 5 and I fall over and that is on something simple.

Robin in Montana said...

I told Kelly this last night because it seems so weird to me. On the way down to Libby in my head I was thinking about that she'd have to have the painkiller, and even though it's not the same thing, I was thinking of some friends who lost their 9yo daughter (years and years ago) because she reacted to a penicillin shot. They lived way out of town, had gotten the shot and headed for home. By the time she reacted and they turned around and tried to get back to the dr., it was too late. For some reason that was in my head, and I thought to myself that I would stay in Libby for awhile afterwards, "just in case." And ... sure enough. Not the same scenario at all, but still.

Robin in Montana said...

Shannon - same thing with my wisdom teeth -- broke them up and pulled them out in pieces. Which was fun.

Robin in Montana said...

I want a Wii! The gym has been very hit or miss this week because Kelly has been sick and he has the cardlock key to the gym. (that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it.) But we've been eating really, really clean, so I don't feel like it's a total fail.

Shannon said...

I am still having a hell of a time with the eating part of trying to adopt a little bit of a healthier approach to things. I have to do something about increasing my fruit and dairy intake and somehow lowering my fat intake. According to mypyramid.com pretty much everything I put in my mouth is full of fat LOL.

Shannon said...

Robin we got the Wii at Christmas and then about 2 weeks ago I got the Wii Fit. I know that I need to exercise more and I also know that I will not go to a gym and the chances of me going out and walking or something are pretty slim. I dont like people to see me exercise. So the Wii lets me do it all in the house and considering that all in total it was $300 that is cheaper than joining a gym and paying every month to go maybe twice :)

If you haven't watched the Sally Brooks routine of "Suburban Housewife" you should. Just cracks me up every time. "Now I'm gonna work on my mother-effing scrapbook" ... "Oxycodin washed down with Jack D, put it in a cup, it looks like ice tea."

Shannon - I've been drinking protein shake mix from Costco (it's Muscle Milk something or other, whey protein, vanilla flavor) mixed with about half a cup of fat-free vanilla yogurt (i've been making in the crockpot, call me Martha) some skim milk and a handful of frozen berries from Costco for breakfast and lunch and then veggies as I want. It's not what I *really want, because I'd rather have leftover fish tacos for breakfast, lol, but I'm not hungry at all. It was a mental game for the first three or four days, that's for sure. Then for dinner, something grilled, a little bit of wholewheat pasta or sweet potato or brown rice (gag) and steamed veggies.

But vodka with white grapefruit juice. I like to be a contradiction in terms sometimes. :-D
