Was anyone trial-watching today, at least as long as it lasted?

Shannon said...

I didnt get to watch much. My stupid computer allowed the bane of my existence, Internet Explorer, to have a minute or two in the sun and dont you freaking know it...I got up this morning and had stupid malware pretending it was windows security trying to do shit on my computer.

I got that all cleared up watched about 20 minutes of trial and poof it was gone till tomorrow.

Is Baez becoming irritating to the judge or is he just getting sloppy?

Deb said...

I didn't get to watch yesterday, but I'm watching now. Casey's mom is *clearly having a difficult time on the stand today. Oh, to know what's going thru her mind.

Deb said...

Interesting, just went to recess, and she went back to sit with George in the gallery, and he didn't offer any kind of comfort to her, even though she is visibly upset. Strange.

Shannon said...

I do however wonder who exactly the Defense is going to call? Considering as how nobody was in on everything that happened for those 31 days and even after....who are they going to call?

Are they going to put Casey on the stand? Do they dare? What a horrible situation to be in having a client who is the only one who can testify to what her version of the truth is yet will be torn to tiny little shreds if placed on the stand.

Shannon, Baez has been irritating to the judge since day one...I'm surprised you've just noticed that, although I know you aren't able to watch constantly. He's a little prick in the courtroom from time to time and the funny thing is, in personal interviews, he's really a very nice, likable, decent guy.

Deb, George tends to be cold in the gallery because of the cautions against any show of emotion against them all, I think. They don't want kicked out for good and Judge Perry will do so. Our local news carries it live and often shows what happens outside in the hallway. George and Cindy are always there for one another once past those doors, and often Lee is out there, too, all of them sort of falling into one another's arms. It's very, very sad to watch.

I'm not happen that I'm going to miss court in the morning, but Beatrice has an eye injury or some type of random ulceration and we've got a vet appointment at 9:30. It sucks, but in the end, Bea's eye matters more to me. I'm still a little resentful of having to miss it, though, lol.

I've got to say, as of now, the prosecution has not proven murder to me...not in any degree. I'm seeing negligent homicide, but that's all. All they've proven is basically what we already knew...Caylee died, she was in the trunk for a few days, then she was put in the woods. They didn't need to prove Casey lied a lot, since her own defense admitted that in opening statements. They've not shown me what form, exactly, chloroform played in the death. They've not proven it was planned. And I've said from the outset that an uninformed person unfamiliar with the death process could possibly have duct-taped her face up to prevent leakage from decomposition. She still wore diapers so slap a diaper on her, duct-tape up her face holes and it's reasonably *possible Casey could have thought that would have prevented fluid leakage for longer than it did. The big tattoo bombshell? Could be taken as a memorial tattoo. Now, do I think this is all the case? I've got to say, I just don't know. Maybe cross examination will change things. Right now, though, I surely couldn't find her guilty of murder. Could y'all?

Lisa said...

"Are they going to put Casey on the stand? Do they dare?"

I think they have to and I think it's not going to help or hurt them, *if the death was truly a bad accident. If it was murder, I think she will get tripped up in that situation. But honestly, all of y'all, if you were truly innocent of murder, wouldn't you insist on being on the stand and telling the truth, of welcoming any questions? I know I would be.

Shannon said...

1. I have noticed that the judge is irritable on occasion with Baez....yesterday it was like he wanted to just choke him LOL Overruled, overruled overruled :)

2. I think that a big thing with this is that I also dont recall the defense ever saying that she did not kill her. Maybe I have missed such things. Even listening to the acquittal stuff right now they are seriously dancing around that issue. I do not know that she will be charged with Capital Murder but she will probably never leave prison either.

3. I would want to take the stand for sure if I were innocent. I dont know that Casey can testify "right" in order to help herself. I think she will end up deciding she knows better then her defense team and will shoot herself in the foot if she goes to the stand.

Shannon said...

I do think that with all of the circumstantial evidence as well as Casey's behavior during those 31 days as well as everything else with her during that time does in a lot of ways tie everything back to her.

Shannon said...

But as I am watching the corespondents talk about the case and saying that perhaps she could get the lesser of the charges against her and that would be only 4 years.....she has already been in jail for nearly 3

KaytieJ said...

At this point, not putting Casey on the stand, is admitting that she is such a liar that they do not dare for fear she will come out with even more bizarre stories. Also, this case has been so circumstantial, that a jury is going to be hard pressed to convict murder one. My feeling and opinion is that she did murder Caylee. Party on, it is a Beautiful Life. Sums it up well.

Shannon said...

Kaytie I dont know that they will rule for murder one either but I do think that she will still be convicted so that she spends the rest of her life in prison.

One of the interesting thing with this is that I have felt from the beginning that it was going to come down to either life or a needle. I think it will be a needle even though everything points dead on at Casey doing this.

Lisa said...

And I just disagree...as of now, I have reasonable doubt it was first degree murder. I could convict on the other charges, the lying to law enforcement and all, and I feel with certainty it was a negligent homicide, but I do have that reasonable doubt as to more. They've just not proven premeditated murder to me.

Tomorrow will be *very interesting.

Well, Lisa. It's seems like Lil Wayne has a thing for Paris Hilton. I hope you are not too heart broken.

Lisa said...

Lil Wayne and that skank? Seriously? What is he thinking? Oh, that's just sad, sad, sad. Thanks for ruining my night, Mulie. :-P

And hi! How've you been?

I see no one is talking about Casey. So, anyone have any thoughts on Wendy's latest news?

Trudy said...

I think Baez is making things worse for her. lol

Lisa said...

You think, Trudy? ;-) And today? Was bad. An entire day was lost due to Baez' foolishness.

Shannon said...

OMG watching commentary today about what has been happening as I have had to run run run already today.

I seriously think that at this point Baez is trying to provide grounds for ineffective counsel to allow Casey to have a new trial.

Lisa said...

Shannon, I'm wondering the same thing. Seriously, it's almost too bad to be real, yet is it really worth him risking his entire career to give her that opportunity? I can't imagine he would. In the end, I wonder if it's not just a case of him letting "fame" go to his head and feeling invincible, and now it's biting him in the ass.

Did y'all hear George has an ex-wife in Ohio and she told Dr. Drew he's a chronic liar?

Shannon said...

I dont know Lisa I just dont get what the hell Baez is doing in that courtroom since the DA rested. It is almost just a fiasco and it is so evident that Belvin is getting pissed at the antics.

I chuckled when I heard that. I mean seriously an ex wife who was married to him how many years ago??

Lisa said...

Well, at least 30, since Lee is 28 or 29.

Today was just boring. Don't get me wrong, I actually love all the forensic stuff but it's just repeating now and I'm done. At least Jose didn't get in trouble today, so all in all, it was the defense's best day yet. ;-)

Shannon said...

How old is George do you know? I was looking yesterday but got bored of looking LOL....I am assuming mid to late 50's. That would have made him late teens early 20's when he was married the first time? Wonder how long they were married LOL

Im sorry the whole ex wife thing just really gets me because she doesnt even know the man he is now so how can she claim he is a habitual liar? How can she have any say on what or who he is as a person?

KaytieJ said...

Finally had some time to be on Jury Duty and fell asleep. Those poor jurors having to sit through this mess.

WBC is at it again. Planning to protest at Ryan Dunn's funeral.

Lisa said...

I'm no fan of any protests for anyone's funeral...everyone was someone's loved family member or friend. That said, Ryan Dunn got in a car and drove it while over twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system. He *easily could killed more than his passenger and as it was, he killed that person. Drinking and driving is no accident...it's a purposeful decision, a purposeful decision that thumbs it's nose at the lives of everyone else out on the road. He knowing took an action that could result in death and inflicted it upon innocent people. One more waste of airspace gone, and the world is yet one small step safer for him being dead now. I have NO sympathy for drunk drivers...just none. That said, again, someone loved him and *they did nothing wrong...what a sad thing they have to deal with those asshols from WBC.

Lisa said...

Shannon, I think George is 59. I'm also thinking this ex-wife thing is a bunch of crap. I found this...it's interesting and references an ex-wife.

I have not really been following the whole Casey Anthony, except the bits and pieces I have caught (which all seems to be the same thing regurgitated for a different news program).

So, it's looks like JM is losing another house. Is anyone surprised? Didn't think so.

And, what do we think of Ron Paul?

Shannon said...

I think part of me likes Ron Paul and I will be looking at him more closely

Lisa said...

It looks like she is, yes, Mulie, but I've got a feeling something sneaky may be up so while it's really interesting, I'd not bet on it being true just yet.

I like Ron Paul, always have. People won't vote for someone who looks like him, though. It shouldn't matter, but it does...his looks screw him over, sadly. And maybe his age. I'm eying Jon Huntsman with some interest...what do y'all think about him?

Shannon said...

I am not going to believe the whole foreclosed for a 3rd time thing until I see something that is not from one of the sites that MWOP posted. There are just too many questions with those two sites. And if you look at places like AOL or Remax and actually do a search for their house you wont find it. There is some stuff that MWOPers are posting in comments but if you look at the site it is actually RealtyTrac again.

Muliebrity said...

I tried to look it up myself and couldn't find anything reputable and didn't find anything, but I didn't check public records yet. Very interesting.

I don't know John Huntsman, but I plan to research him. I think everyone is so sick of our current politicians that they would vote for a Yoda lookalike. I wouldn't discount Ron Paul on looks alone this election cycle.

Shannon said...

I think you are right about politicians Mulie. Seriously does it really matter if they have a D or an R behind their name anymore all any of them are out for is power and publicity. I am sick to death of all of them and would LOVE to see some Independent or Libertarian (true to those parties not just a faker) actually get some serious notice for once.

Lisa said...

Mulie, Huntsman is an oddity...he's a bit of a rebel Mormon, a very fiscal conservative but who, while not supporting gay marriage, has long supported civil unions. I'm not happy with his strong anti-abortion stance, but he's also got a strong anti-war stance and, in the end, I'm good with just about everything I've read but for the abortion thing, which I could overlook and pray Congress keeps that as it is. I guess I figure no candidate is perfect and he's not but he's worth reading up on. So far, I'm feeling better with him than anyone else, I think.

While it seems petty on the surface, I really think things like names and physical appearance can keep a candidate from being elected. Ross Perot's (loved him!) appearance hurt him in the same way Ron Paul's does, as did the fact he's *H. Ross Perot and people are put off by first names being an initial. Unusual names aren't bad, as Obama proved, but ugly names are. Newt Gingrich translates to "the lizard who stole Christmas", for example. Which he sort of is. :-D Mitt Romney sounds like a Martian baseball player...he's the catcher. Sissy boy. He'll never win. Ron Paul makes people wonder what his real last name is and why he dropped it, even though he didn't. Ronald Paul WHO? That translates to "what's he hiding?" and people aren't comfortable. Plus, he looks like he could break a hip any day now. I'm telling you, these things matter, even subconsciously.

KaytieJ said...

Not sure who I am leaning towards, but I know who I definitely will NOT vote for: Bachmann. Palin.
Personally, I would vote for US Senator Ron Wyden in a heart beat if he were to run. Makes me very sad that he isn't. So many of the candidates are showboaters. Wyden is one that works for the people tirelessly and does not seek the lime light.

I am eyeing Ron Paul. Looks or names do not mean anything to me. Age does. Too young, I worry they are inexperienced and rash. Too old, I worry about the energy levels.

And then there are out of left field surprises -
Kerry tossing away his Medal of Valor, but Ooops! It was not his but a buddies, his is still on showcase on the mantle - surprise!

John Edwards - what a worm.

Back to Casey Anthony Trial talk.
Friday was a nonstop heartstopper of Drama.
Saturday was scheduled, everyone showed up, and then it was cancelled. Motion to Dismiss or Plea Bargaining? Hmmmmm.

Muliebrity said...

I only just got my first glimpse of Bachmann this weekend. I have been hearing lots of Bachmann trash talk, but I don't know the reasons people don't like her. I just keep seeing, "Bachmann is so dumb." blah, blah, blah.

Lisa said...

Boy, the trial's been interesting the last few days, huh? Poor George, though. :-(

Mulie, Bachmann has some good handlers now and they're keeping her in line, I suspect, and giving her some serious coaching. Back a year ago, when she was fairly new to the national scene and "unhandled", the real her showed and imo, it's dumb. Even now ,I don't find her to be so mych innately intelligent as just very well rehearsed. She's no one I'd vote for. At least I think I'd like to be friends with Sarah and I think Sarah's got some common sense to cover what she lacks in other areas, but I don't even have that feeling with Bachmann.

Shannon said...

Casey is losing her stone face and is starting to show her pissed "I could kill you" face a whole lot more.....the way she was looking at George today really should have struck him dead on the stand.

Lisa said...

No kidding. And from all I've heard about kids who were molested by their fathers, the sign of the father they typically want so much to just show normal love and be a normal dad crying and expressing guilt over *anything* softens their hearts pretty quickly, since they want so badly to believe he feels bad. So, her reaction didn't even see to suit her own accusations, you know?

Shannon said...

Not at all. I still cant wait to see what happens with the rest of this trial. I mean seriously between Baez continuous mess ups and what appears to Casey now cracking a bit I see something very interesting happening in the next week or so.

Lisa said...

Well, they expect to rest tomorrow and the only people I know of left are Krsytal Holloway and Jesse Grunde. No way can they put Casey on the stand and still rest tomorrow...so she's out. The State will call Cindy's old job to prove she *didn't make those searches on chloroform since she lied and was really at work. Who else to you think the State will call for rebuttal? Lee? In the end, the Defense hasn't proven a thing stated in their opening statements and the State hasn't proven first degree murder, imo. They've definitely proven negligent homicide...shit, the Defense gave them that in their own admission. Maybe they've even proven second degree murder. But not first degree. What do y'all think?

Tricia said...

Hi Lisa and Daisies,
I've also followed almost every second of the trial and can't wait to hear what they have to say in closings tomorrow. I agree that the State has certainly proven negligent homicide and possibly even second degree and the defense has proven that Baes should start looking for another line of work.

BTW, I posted once or twice on this blog a while back and used to post on MWoP from time to time.

Hope you all have a good Fourth of July weekend!

Tricia said...

Please make that BaeZ!

KaytieJ said...

Hi Tricia.

My plans got changed last minute for the weekend, and I might just be home and watch the closing arguments tomorrow.

I believe the State has shown that there is enough evidence to support that Calley died of negligent homicide of a child. I believe that in Florida that is a death sentence crime. However, none of us can know the outcome from the jury. My heart goes out to those that are sequestered over a holiday weekend. Frankly, I would be livid. They have loved ones and plans and it is being subjugated by this very emotional trial. I am very impressed with the jurors, that so far, none of them have bailed out like in the OJ case.

Of course I feel awful for what Lee, Cindy, George have gone through. However, we hear about them all the time, and I just ask that whatever the verdict is, we also give thought to what the sequestered jurors have gone and are going through.
