Ronald Reagan speech

So I kind of liked this speech....You only really have to watch the first 30 minutes but I think that even today it rings true.....Government is not the solution it is part of the problem.

Melissa - That one is a doozy. Sounds like the decision has been made. I am so sorry you are going through that.

Lisa said...

God, I'm tired...I've run all day long, it feels like. Two different eye doctors today...whooo hooo!

Melissa, I'm so sorry but you surely are stuck with him for awhile, aren't you? Is he at least pleasant to be around? Do your kids like him there?

Mulie, I'm sorry I wasn't around earlier and I hope it's not too late, but if you get that okra really dry and then chunck it up and dredge it in flour, you can freeze it just like that. The flour keeps it from sticking so you can put it in freezer bags in that state, just don't pack it in. When you're ready to fry it (or, alternately, you can add it to gumbo since the flour won't hurt anything) dip it in beaten egg and then seasoned floured for the second flouring. You have to do this with it frozen, though. Once it thaws, the flour will turn to glue.

Lisa - medical appointments are exhausting - two in one day - ick. Hope you got some good news, though.

KaytieJ said...

I suppose this is a bad time to bring up that I am saddened that the Stem Cell Research has been put on an even longer hold. The cells were IVF that were just going to be thrown in the medical waste anyway. Just does not make sense to me.

"Lisa - medical appointments are exhausting - two in one day - ick. Hope you got some good news, though."

So-so news. The new infection isn't healing as fast as he'd expected but it *is some better so at least it's going in the right direction. He's keeping her on the meds but giving her a 2 week reprieve in appointments as long as it doesn't worsen, since he knows she's going to be busy with the transplant and all. Baby steps, but we're getting her there. I'm just worried at how much I see her slipping due to being so dependent. Not much rest, though, since we had a hair emergency here and had to find a brand new stylist at 5pm to do the greatest cut ever. Ours picked up and left town, leaving behind her house and salon (attached to her house) without a word to anyone. Obviously, this was Jake's emergency, though. Weirdly, we found the genius stylist at a local Hair Cuttery after making maybe 37 stops and the woman managed to duplicate the cut in the picture he had to a T, something no one else has managed in almost 2 years. I? Am tired. And 5 pounds lighter. :-D

"I suppose this is a bad time to bring up that I am saddened that the Stem Cell Research has been put on an even longer hold. The cells were IVF that were just going to be thrown in the medical waste anyway. Just does not make sense to me."

Crap. I'm not sure where I stand on this one. I mean, you know I'm against those cells ever having been harvested but they *were. It can't be undone, that part, so it does seem a shame to waste them. At the same time, I don't think what would be done as a result of the research is right. But throwing them away as waste seems...well...wasteful, since they're already out and there. I just don't know...

Melissa said...

Thanks ladies for being here for me to vent to today. Had I kept it all in I surely would have exploded.

Lisa-He's not unpleasant. Just quiet around me-I think that he's not sure how to take me. He perks up when hubs is around. He's very anti-social so he'll spend most of his days on our back porch. He's really not terrible to be around if he's dried out. The kids love him and the feeling is mutual. I guess I'm just bitter about the way the whole thing was played out. Oh well. I'll live.
You've been super busy these past few days. I feel for you. I'm hoping that things continue to improve.
Yay for finding a new stylist. I need a stylist period. Probalem is I have long curly hair and for some reason the people that I've let cut it have only succeeded in making it frizz up, which isn't attractive at all.

Lisa said...

Melissa, in our place, I'd be very upset. It's almost as if he has more power in your house than you do, isn't it? :-(

I wish I had a good idea for your hair but I don't. The woman who cuts Jake's told him she just loves getting away from cutting "regular" hair and doing more edgy things so I'd even be afraid to recommend her to you.

Where is everyone?

Muliebrity said...

I need a dish to take to an outdoor putluck tomorrow. Any ideas?

KaytieJ said...

Mulie - Fried Okra? :::ducking::: :-D

Lisa - Hair emergencies abound here. I just don't have the patience to deal with them! Glad you found someone that likes to do cutting edge styles. Hope they stick around!

KaytieJ said...

DKMissie - I'm afraid to ask what you did. Hope you are ok now!

Melissa said...

Mulie-what about orzo salad?

KaytieJ said...

Tammi - Bahhhhaahaaa!

Muliebrity said...

"Mulie - Fried Okra? :::ducking::: :-D"

Seriously considering it, but is probably best fresh.

"Mulie-what about orzo salad?"

You know, I think I might actually have some. Do you have a recipe?

I also have a ton of tomatoes, so I might make some salsa.

Lisa said...

I'm here...Mulie, did you come up with an idea? If not, you can never go wrong with something involving any combination of potatoes, cheese and canned cream-of soup.

Here I sit, kidless and momless. I want to make a BBQ chicken pizza and eat the entire thing. Instead, I'm having fresh veggies fried with brown rice and an egg. Okay, and one beer. But just one.

PJ said...

Good for you, Lisa. I'm with you on wanting something unhealthy, but having something healthy.

PJ said...

At least that's my plan.

I'm out of animal crackers, so no more fall of the wagon kind of binge of animal crackers spread with chocolate frosting like last week.

Lisa said...

CK, if I liked sweets I don't know that I could ever do this. That said, those animal crackers do sound good but I'll pass on the frosting. I like them dipped in tea. My new thing the last two days has been fresh figs...I even fried them into my dinner tonight. Is this new way of eating feeling more normal to you yet?

PJ said...

Yes it is, AP - and it's been a good change.

But I do get tired of it sometimes and just want to eat big - mainly on Wed, Thurs or Fri evenings.

PJ said...

It's really becoming a habit now - not something new or different, but just what I do. That's a good thing.

Lisa said...

That's a very good thing and good for you for sticking it out! You'll succeed with this, I have no doubt. I'm just glad it's become more normal-feeling to you.

PJ said...

I hope it works for you, too. It's still kind of new and I need to keep at it, and resist the pull of sugar/salt/fat/carbs when I get tired or stressed.

JustPeachy2 said...

what's going on with MWOP? Anyone know? I post there a lot and she's taking a break until Sunday.

(Disclaimer---this is a neutral question.. not intended to start any drama what so ever :) )

Jeanette said...

Lisa, I'm sorry about Arse's new eye infection :( What a bummer when she is so close to having the transplant. I've had some gnarly eye infections (although they were my own fault, I was lazy with my contact care.), and they are absolutely no fun. It's so scary to have your vision taken and not know when it will be coming back, or if it will be the same as before. I hope it clears up quickly and the surgery goes smoothly for her, and smoothly for you, too.

Lisa said...

Thanks, CK. I've got to get my blood pressure down so right now, that's my main priority although loosing weight will help with that, too. I'm not tellin' what it was but it was enough to scare me and I really, really needed that kick in the ass. Sunday will make a week into this and I'm already down 7 pounds (which I know is a first-week thing and won't continue) and it's been relatively easy. I'll go take my blood pressure again this coming Sunday and see if I've accomplished anything on that score. I'm doing okay with the carbs but I miss my salt a *lot.

Lisa said...

Peach, no clue on MWOP. I hope she's not thinking of giving the site up, though. Maybe she's just going away for Labor Day.

Jeanette, thanks. They assure her she will be seeing better than she has in years by Christmas, so we shall see. Never once have they given odds, though, of that. They state it as fact. I had to laugh today...she called and told me she "Braille cleaned" her kitchen. I asked what that meant and she said she ran her hands over things until she felt raised areas, then scrubbed until they were gone...lol.

JustPeachy2 said...

Agreed Lisa. I think what's done over there is important.. and done very well. :/

I'm just glad I found you ladies!! :)

Lisa said...

I'm glad you found us, too, :-)

PJ said...

AP - I'm supposed to be watching my salt too - I was still within normal, but high end of normal.

Lisa said...

Salt watching sucks, doesn't it? I think it's worse than calorie-watching.

Anyone else watching Whale Wars? Tonight was so good!

Lisa said...

Jeeez, where'd everyone go?

I need opinions, please. Jake's birthday is coming up quickly and I've been stumped as to what to get him. It just now dawned on me that he could use his own set of nice luggage. Anytime he goes somewhere, he drags off with my old brown Samsonite stuff my folks got me for my 18th birthday and it's seriously not cool-looking. Would this be too impersonal of a gift, do you think? Or would it be good? I never get stuck on gifts for him but this time around, I'm flummoxed.

Hope everyone is having a good Saturday!

Tammi said...

Lisa congrats on the 5 lbs!

I used to watch Whale Wars, but for *me, it just to be the same week after week. I do DVR it, I will have to go check out the episode.

I think luggage sounds great! And not impersonal. I rather get something I can use, then some personal fluff.

Flummoxed? Geez...off to google...LOL

Tammi said...

it just *got to be....

PJ said...

Lisa,
Luggage - good gift - maybe add something odd and quirky too?

PJ said...

<---embarrassed to say her daughter sometimes put things in a grocery bag. Even though she has decent luggage.

PJ said...

Funky luggage tags or straps in weird colors to make it more interesting?

Lisa said...

Tammi, thanks. And yes, I like both practical and fun, too. I'm just not sure a 19 year old male would find this to be a good gift. Although it could come in handy when he decides to move...lol.

Last night on Whale Wars, Capt. Pete (Ady Gil) managed to get on board the Shonan Maru 2 and tried to place the captain under citizen's arrest. They took him back to Japan, instead, and put him on trial. I'll not tell more and ruin it for anyone but it was a great episode. I need to get out more.

Lisa said...

CK, he headed off yesterday with stuff in Walmart bags, too. Love the idea of some funky luggage accessories to make it more "his"! Okay, unless someone says this is a bad idea before I go, I'm doing it. I'll get him a new outfit or something to put inside, for fun.

Tammi said...

Lisa...hmmm. I think the last episode I saw was when the Ady Gil got hit. I will check it out.

Shannon said...

I think I am loving the luggage idea....He is always going somewhere and when he moves it would be great for him to have luggage.

I think I may do something like that for Mikala....I never ever had luggage....I have a backpack that I use for when we go places LOL

Tammi said...

My parents got me luggage when I moved out. It was great. A whole set and then my mom filled it with stuff I would need.

Shannon said...

I like that idea Tammi. You know that when kids move out there is always some stuff thta they need but forget to have so if mommy helps they have a better chance LOL

TxMissie said...

KaytieJ nothing yet :D

Lisa said...

I'm back...I got him this set. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Jeep-5-Piece-Luggage-Value-Set-Black/13012423 Despite the one bad review, I think it looks very solid and well-made for a plain, functional set. They didn't have any good accessories so I'll run to Target tomorrow. I got him a couple of shirts and a funky belt there, too. Thanks for the opinions - I just wasn't sure about this one but now that it's done, I think it's a good gift. :-)

And yum, I'm having catfish for dinner, along with a huge salad and maybe a baked potato. What's everyone else doing?

KaytieJ said...

Lisa - You gift if just right for Jake at his age and stage in life. And adding some fun and practical things inside of the luggage is like a second present. He will like it. Been thinking of you and your Labor Day baby.

It is a tradition in our family to get a set of luggage at 18. I was so excited when I got mine. Felt like Marco Polo and ready to explore the World!

And in one way of looking at Ms. Arse and her eye problems right now, having her up and doing things despite the low vision, is so much better than having her just sit and pout about it while she waits for her surgery. I know you know that, I am just nattering and thinking while I down my coffee and try to wake up.

DKMissie: I see a smirk of contemplating it, though :-D

Peachy: I don't read MWOP, but hope all is ok over there. And glad you are here!

OK - off to shower and don my cape <---just being silly.

Have a fun and safe weekend everyone!

::UGH! I'm forever forgetting to log out of my private blog lol!! ::

Lisa said...

Lol, we can all go stalk Peach on her private blog.

Thanks again for backing my ass up on this gift. This was absolutely the weirdest age for me to deal with yet, gift-wise. My luggage is now nearly 30 years old and it's been all over the world since none of my friends had decent luggage and always borrowed it - Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Kuwait, Japan, many European nations, Jamaica, Peru and Canada. I have never taken it further than Omaha...lol.

Kaytie, I called her this afternoon and asked what she was doing. She was mowing her backyard. Her theory was, what can happen...she hits the shed? More power to her and it'll always grow back. :-D

You have work tonight? And does anyone have any updates on MWOP?

Lisa said...

Ruh-roh...hey, Melissa? I just read that they've found West Nile Virus in chickens in Palm Bay, Rockledge and Titusville. Time for us to be careful.

JustPeachy2 said...

Let us know how he likes it!! That age is definitely hard!

You are welcome to stalk me, but it's so boring my own parents don't read.. and I'm a notoriously bad updater. :)

No news.. probably not good news. :/

Lisa said...

I'm a bad updater too, Peach.

I wonder if she just sort of ran out of stuff to talk about? I mean, the info is pretty much all out there now. Either you accept the truth and see JM for what she is (a liar and ghetto-fabulous in a more suburban way) or you don't because you don't want to and nothing MWOP does will change it. I hope this isn't what has happened but I'd not be too shocked.

Muliebrity said...

I wish I would have read about your luggage looking earlier, Lisa! My mom just got my sister a luggage set from Kohls. They are having their "lowest prices of the season" sale and she got free shipping. I do like what you got for Jake. It's a very grown up gift.

Was at a family themed BBQ all day thrown by hubby's boss/colonel. Hunter fell in the pool. I did not have to jump in after him, but I got pretty wet fishing him out. Yes, this is the same kid who had the head injury. He's 2 going on 13. He was in swimming trunks and I was standing right with him talking to him about the pool. He squatted over to look at something and toppled right in. Glad it was the shallow end.

Muliebrity said...

As far as MWOP. She probably just wants a break. I know how easily I can get consumed with my little 'ole blog, I can only image that it is interfering with her "real" life. I haven't been there since the Liz blog opened, so I haven't read how she worded it though.

Margo said...

Hi flower pot heads.

Maybe mwop just went away for the weekend. I think it's amazing that JM breast feeds her baby - I've never heard of anyone feeding a child that way before :)

Lisa said...

Lol, I know, Margaret...she's so unique and special in being able to do that, isn't she?

Mulie, I'm glad Hunter is okay! Was he scared?

Lisa said...

Okay, if this confession doesn't spark conversation, I just give the hell up. I can't sacrifice more pride than this for Daisy:

I am sitting here with milk of magnesia coating my entire face and scalp.

*hums "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy"*

Lisa said...

And...no one cares. Keeeez. Fine.

Lisa said...

Um. *Jeeeez.

Jeanette said...

I'll bite.

Why do you have milk of magnesia coating your entire face and scalp?

Karen said...

Yea now I'm on the edge of my seat.... do tell what the MoM is for... we might all want to rush out and buy some and use it tonight!

I'm tired! Went to a county fair last night - saw lots of cows, horses, pigs, sheep, goats, ducks, chickens, roosters, rabbits... Watched a bit of a horse show with the 4-H riders showing their horses... rode the merry go round with Tay and ate some fair fried, and some elephant ears...

kristin said...

lol LisAP :)

I was showering/cleaning the shower.

I will second Jeanette's...ummmm why?

Karen said...

haha jinx Kristin - we posted at the exact same time!

You owe me a beer!

Muliebrity said...

"Was he scared?"

He was scared and crying. A lot, a lot, but I just kept telling him "That was cool!" "Great swimming!" "Wow, you did it!" He wasn't really buying it though, because he kept saying, "Dat hut!" "No, dat wasn't cool." "Dat was too scary." hope it was scary enough too keep him away from pools, but I doubt it. He's too adventurous.

KaytieJ said...

MoM Masque? Hmmmmm.....either that or you have really bad aim. MoM is not to be downed like Jello Shots :-D

Margo said...

Are you trying to loosen up your skin, AP :)

JustPeachy2 said...

hmm the suspense is killing me! What does MoM do for the skin?

About MWOP- still no news. I have a bad feeling this is about the lawyer talk MckMama had. It will be horrible if she's able to run MWOP off, but I can't say that I blame her. I would strongly consider what I'm up against too. :/

JustPeachy2 said...

blame her-- her being MWOP

Lisa said...

Thank you, Jeanette and all, for asking! I have something new going on with extremely sensitive scalp and face. In playing DR. AP and using Google Diagnostics, I have determined I have seborrheic dermatitis. So, in reading about how to cure it without using a ton of chemicals, which I know will aggravate my skin, I came across people saying they've had success with MoM. Now, considering how the word of strangers is always something to go on, I naturally went and bought a bottle and doused my head in it. So far, the verdict is that it did no harm but I won't know more for awhile. I regret not getting the mint one since that might have felt refreshing. Seriously, aren't you all glad I shared? ;-)

How's everyone doing tonight?

Lisa said...

I'd not blame MWOP, either, but there's no rule that says we can't move the talk here, is there? I mean, if Shannon is agreeable and anyone wants to still talk about her. I know there's no law against various commenters talking about other people if the blog and the post itself isn't about any named person.

Shannon said...

Hey all I am finally home after a weekend of house sitting.....kinda sad to be back in the home again though because I enjoyed the silence LOL

Lisa if it works well then what the heck right??? It was funny about the whole thing with you sitting there with MoM all over your noggin.

As for if things have to close down on MWOP....which I really hope does not happen because dammit she is doing awesome over there and she herself keeps things very to the point. But if they do have to close down I seriously have no issue with talk of JM being here....the woman is weird and seriously in my opinion I dont care what we talk about LOL

Lisa said...

I just checked...MWOP is staying up, she was just taking a break. I'm glad to hear it. It's not that I hate JM or anything, I don't, but it's the principle of it all and the principle of what MWOP is trying to accomplish that I appreciate.

Sorry you had to come home, Shannon. Silence is a lovely thing.

Shannon said...

LOL it is a very wonderful thing that is for sure...I could certainly get used to it.

I am glad to hear that MWOP is staying up...she has done such a fine job with it and all I think that sometimes taking a healthy break is needed and I am glad that she did.

Melissa said...

Lisa-Thanks for the heads up about the West Nile. Yuck. Guess I'll have to seriously monitor where the kids are playing outside. Our neighborhood is sort of swampy so I'm sure it's a prime breeding ground.

Lisa said...

Morning! Melissa, those skeeters scare me but they say anything with DEET in it does the trick. When I was a kid, we used to let them bite us on purpose so we could watch their bodies fill with blood, then smash them. Now all I can think about is disease. Did you see the tropicals are beginning to rumble? As of this morning, I think Fiona formed.

Anyone have any good gossip to share or anything?

Melissa said...

I've been keeping a half-closed eye on the tropics. I like the rain/storms that come with having the hurricanes near but I don't like the destruction/loss of power that come with it. I'll have to start paying more attention.

No good gossip from me.

Oh wait-I do have news on the fil front. He's not coming after all! He was able to find a trailer that the owner was willing to furnish so he has no need to come stay with us!

jmh said...

Shannon, I just sent you an email (to the oopsie address). Will you please read it at your earliest?

Thanks!!!

Margo said...

Hi girls.

Melissa - that's GREAT news!

Deb said...

Hey everyone! I missed Silva's, dang it!

Just been incredibly pre-occupied, kids first day of school today and definitely keeping an eye on the tropics. Looks like Earl could graze the Mid-Atlantic this week.

Yep, and one right behind it, Lisa.

Deb said...

So, did the MoM Mask work, Lisa?

Lisa said...

Melissa, that's terrific news - you must be so relieved!

Deb, I knew you'd be watching...will y'all get any seaside impact from Danielle and Earl? Rip tides are bad here right now and they're advising people not go in the water at all.

Lord, I'm nosy. I want to know what Julie told Shannon. :-D

Lisa said...

Don't know about the MoM yet. I think I need to use it several times before anything miraculous happens. I'll update, though, in case anyone else ever becomes afflicted, too.

Shannon said...

Julie got it and read it and I think a bitch may want to be careful.

Sorry guys I cant share with you all :)

Deb said...

Lisa - Rip currents are horrible. My dad said it is *very rough in OC, MD right now. One missing/presumed drowned man on Saturday. Went into the water after lifeguards went off duty. The Beach Patrol reported 250 saves alone on Saturday.

Why can't people just heed the warnings and stay the F out of the water?

Shannon said...

people are dumb that is for damn sure because they think that nothing bad will ever happen to them......hopefully they dont get someone who is obligated to save them killed in the process.

Lisa said...

Deb, we lost one here this weekend, too. 90+ had to be rescued, I heard. I don't get why people go in when it's like that.

Shannon, I wasn't expecting you to tell, I swear! I was just messing with y'all. And hey, at least we know there's a bitch causing trouble out there now. ;-)

Shannon said...

Oh I should share our local excitement we had here in town this weekend....

http://www.kval.com/news/local/101771898.html?tab=video

Basically there was some kind of crossing of wires or something underground and there have been explosions and a pretty big fire going on down there and pretty much 28 blocks of downtown are now without power.

Margo said...

That's crazy!

Shannon said...

Yeah it is a bit weird.....The really crazy thing is that this weekend we had not only the Eugene Celebration but also the Saturday Market so if it would have happened the day before it could have really been a serious mess.

Margo said...

I'm reading about the Glenn Beck rally in DC. I'm not a fan of GB or POTUS (nods to Mulie) but how is Glenn Beck saying that POTUS isn't practicing main stream christianity. Mormons are not exactly main stream christians either so what is he saying?

JustPeachy2 said...

No offense to anyone, but GB is an idiot. And that has nothing to do with Republicans, Tea Party-ers, or Democrats. He's just ignorant!

:)

PJ said...

<---chest bumps JP2

Muliebrity said...

<---Enjoys GB and his goober teeth. I don't listen or watch him, but I used to listen to him daily for years, and he was not that outrageous. I need to start watching him, so I can see how crazy he is. Anyone else listen to him years ago? Do you think he's changed?

Lisa said...

Awww, I kinda like GB. I'm certainly not on his side of the fence on a lot of things so I feel like I can look at him sort of impartially and there's a lot of truth in what he says, unlike Rush. There a lot of stretching of the truth, too, but I have to disagree that he's an idiot. :-P I agree that it's odd for him to accuse someone else of not being a mainstream Christian, though.

JustPeachy2 said...

I'm happy to agree to disagree, Lisa :)

IMHO- He's insane. I used to work at a job where I had to listen to his talk radio show everyday (Mike Medved, Sean Hannity, and Mike Gallagher too) and take notes. I am not even kidding.. he's a crazy person.

Maybe idiot isn't the correct word. Dangerous is probably more accurate.

And to answer your question Mulie, yes he's changed. I'm not sure which is more frightening: that he may actually believe what he says or that it's all a show for money. :/

JustPeachy2 said...

Now, all that aside, I find him incredibly entertaining. He gets so worked up on his television show with his crazy charts, and dry erase board shenanigans that it seems like he could lose it and meltdown at any point.

Muliebrity said...

Liking him and believing everything he says, are two different things! He entertains me and I love his I'mgoingtopullmyhairoutIamsopassionateaboutwhatIamsaying shenanigans.

That job sounds kind of interesting, Peach! What were your notes used for?

And why is Kate Gosselin dressing like a hooker? Short shorts, halter top, platform sandals. She looks so cheap.

Deb said...

Good morning!

"hopefully they dont get someone who is obligated to save them killed in the process."

Shannon- that is the worst part. Their ignorance could cost someone else their life.

"And why is Kate Gosselin dressing like a hooker"

That woman is attention/money starved, she's dropped off the radar, thank goodness!

Deb said...

<----does not watch Glenn Beck or anyone else for that matter.

JustPeachy2 said...

Mulie, I worked for a US Senator. I'm not sure if anyone ever looked at my notes, but it was "very important" to take them. Just BS if you ask me :)

And I totally agree about Kate Gosselin! I was watching Kate Plus 8 last night and had to turn it off bc it was so depressing. How either one of them can say that they haven't changed completely is beyond me!

Margo said...

Good morning girls.

I'm not listening to Glenn Beck or Rush today :) I don't care to listen to anyone that lies to make a point. Dishonesty is never helpful.

Shannon said...

Morning ladies

Another slow day on my home front....been trying to do anything to stay busy here lately as I am feeling like my whole life is on a teeter totter that someone else is controlling but soon we will have little answers that will help :)

Melissa said...

TRQ (todays random question):
How do you feel about all of the parents of multiples that have tv shows now? I've seen three of four new shows come on that are featuring parents that have quints etc. To me it's all sort of not-interesting. I enjoyed J&K Plus 8 at the beginning but once they got in to the strategic product placement etc I lost interest. Am I alone in feeling like the whole fascination iwth parents of muliples has a been there/done that vibe?
I don't mean anything negatively about those with multiples-personally I'd love to have multiples-but does everyone that has quints etc have to have their own show?

Shannon said...

Good question Melissa.

Personally I dont really like the shows based on these families. In a way it makes me feel like they are promoting women putting their lives at risk as well as the unborn babies at risk...it is going to become a get rich quick fad. It makes me be concerned that women who get pregnant with 8 babies are going to make a poor decision because they think they can get a show from it and not have to worry about being able to take care of their own kids.

I have watched maybe a handful of J&K episodes and when I look at what has happened to those parents, which will eventually reflect upon those kids, it makes me sick. I think those kids are suffering at this point in time.

Margo said...

It will be interesting to see what happens to the reality kids as they grow up. I just don't think it's a normal life to have every waking moment exposed to TV audiences. I was flipping channels the other night and one of the Kardashian girls was at a therapists office with her husband. How meaningful can therapy be if their are cameras there and that's part of your livlihood.

Another good article on end of life care - http://www.cnn.com/2010/OPINION/08/31/brown.hospice.care/index.html?hpt=C2

Melissa said...

I agree completely. I guess that I'm just over the "reality family" type tv shows. I can only hope that these families aren't as dysfunctional as the appear (or are made to appear) on tv. It makes me so sad for the children in these families because they didn't ask to have their lives subejected to the masses.

Margo said...

I need another show. The only thing I watch anymore is the news and Seinfeld re-runs.

Melissa said...

I agree Margaret. But I'm not in to the design-type shows like Lisa is. (Design Star or Project Runway or whatever the rest of those programs are called)

Exhibit A: Last night I watched the movie on Lifetime about the Pregnancy Pact in MA or whereever it was.

Margo said...

I mean a good non-reality show. I'm watching the second half of the NJ housewive's reunion and then I'm done with reality TV. I love MadMen but I usually fall asleep before it comes on.

Melissa said...

I've tried watching a couple of the RH episodes but I just can't get in to it. Maybe because my boobs are real and I've never had plastic surgery. (I'm not saying that if you can get in to them that you've had those things-I just don't have any common interests with the "housewives")
I've heard good things about MadMen but I haven't seen it yet. I miss old school ER.

Tammi said...

Hello!!

School is back in full swing, and it's busy! :)

I completely admit to being a reality show whore. I love tons! Top Chef, Project Runway, Kardashians, only OC and NJ Housewives, Survivor, DWTS,Girls Next Door...I might need an intervention.

Hope everyone is doing good!

Melissa said...

Glad you're surviving the back to school craziness Tammi!

Where's RiM hiding out lately? Where's anyone hiding, actually? Are we outcasts now? (Just asking so I can dress accordingly, dontcha know)

Tammi said...

Just no mom jeans..

Shannon said...

I am hiding out in truck forums trying to find out why in the hell my blinkers arent working on my truck....LOL it is frustrating me and making me cranky. Did find out that there was one whole fuse out of like 15 that was actually the right amperage for where it goes. Not sure what else it could be...hoping it isnt the actual switch because I really dont want to replace that.

Tammi said...

I hate car problems! Thank goodness Randy can usually figure them out.

I am having probs with our hot water heater. Randy is out of town and cold showers don't make me too happy. He is positive he knows the prob, but that doesn't help me now. I hope we don't have to buy a new one...ouch!

Shannon said...

Oh that would suck....I think I can live with no blinkers for a little bit but no hot water does NOT work for even one shower.

Tammi said...

Shannon...Oh I know! I have to go out to the garage and keep relighting the damn thing. So we think it's just that part. Our house is big, so we need a big water heater.

Hope you are up to date on your hand signals. LOL

Shannon said...

LOL no kidding on the hand signals

We have two water heaters for our house. It is nice because one is solar powered and the other is electric so thankfully we hardly ever run out of water. Hopefully you guys can find out what is happening and find it is an easy fix.

Tammi said...

I hope so too. Ours is big enough we never run out of hot water...but when it's not hot to begin with...LOL!

Shannon said...

Oh yeah when it doesnt get hot then that means you get nothin LOL

Shannon said...

Called the parts store to find out if they had any ideas about the blinkers....check bulbs....bulbs all appear to be fine. This thing is not only making me dirty it is making me cranky!

Tammi said...

Are the lights on your dash working?

Shannon said...

Yep dash lights work....4 ways work...parking lights work...just no blinkers. I have a feeling it is the blinker thingy....LOL I lost the name can you tell...it is the part that tells the lights when to flash. There is a separate one for the blinkers and the 4 ways.

Tammi said...

Also, have you checked to see if this is a recurring problem in your car? They might have some sort of recall. The lights on the inside of my car wouldn't go off..yeah, that was annoying...come to find out, it was an easy fix and recall so it was free.

Tammi said...

I don't think I have ever done a 4 way....

Shannon said...

One of the pains in the ass that one comes to expect with a truck that is 25 years old....if I didnt love her I would kill her :) But the plus side with her being 25 years old is that she is fairly easy to work on because things arent hidden.

Shannon said...

HAHAHAHA some people call them emergency lights...but in the case of a 4 way it would be an emergency :)

JustPeachy2 said...

Tammi me too! I'm such a Jukie!

Project Runway, Kardashians, Kourtney and Khloe, Real Housewives of OC and DC, Bachelor Pad, Jersey Shore (it's so damn funny) ::hangs head::, the Bachelorette/Bachelor, American Pickers, and all HGTV !

Im bad bad bad :)

JustPeachy2 said...

I didnt even put Girls Next Door or So You Think You Can Dance!!

As far as regular TV shows: True Blood, Weeds, US of Tara, Entourage, Greys, Desperate Housewives, Private Practice, and recently we started watching The Tudors from season I. Sooooo good.

Tammi said...

Reg shows? True Blood, The Gates, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Cougar Town, Persons Unknown, Friday Night Lights, Modern Family, I might try Glee, CSI Miami, Big Love....hangs head in shame...lol

Shannon said...

Well now I no longer have to use hand signals to turn LOL My roommate had a switch click in his head and he went and tried it out and TA DA it worked.

Lisa said...

Hey, I survived. And Miss Arse has her cadaver part in place. Bad morning, though...she was a nervous wreck and I had some type of stomach virus or light food poisoning of the puke variety so that 50 mile, 1-way trip? Fun times, let me tell you. But by God, she was getting that cornea if it killed me, lol. She's home and doing good, full of piss and vinegar, so Jake is staying the night with her so I can relax. It's been a very long day.

I love reality shows way too much, but not the ones about kids. Those bore me, although I did used to love J&K when it first started. I'm also over the numerous dwarf shows now. You've seen one dwarf, you've pretty much seen them all.

Glad you got it fixed, Shannon!

Shannon said...

Glad that the zombie eye is in place and you are now home and able to rest and relax sounds like you really need it.

I am a reality show kinda gal but honestly pretty much anything that is found on TLC I cant stand. I am loving Bravo though and their reality tv.

Lisa said...

Bravo is the best, absolutely. Oooh, did y'all see Swamp People yet? It's good!

Funny story about my mom - my phone wallpaper is Hello Kitty - white background, huge black outlined HK head, very simple and HK has the big pink bow in her hair. Earlier, while she was asleep in her bed, I took an awful looking picture of her and sent it to my aunt and we giggled over it. When Mom got up, I told her. Later, she was eating dinner, spotted my phone with it backlit up very brightly and said, "I can see that!" Riiiiight. So I ask her what it is. She tells me it's that picture of her I took. I get tickled and tell her it is not. She jabs at Hello Kitty's pink bow and says, "I know it is. I see my headboard right there!"

Shannon said...

HAHAHA that is too cute about your mom :)

I did see Swamp People....the only thing I want to know is where is the interpreter LOL

KaytieJ said...

I love it that Ms. Arse has a pink Miss Kitty headboard :-D And oh boy do you and Jake have your hands full keeping her down!

Shannon - my windshield wipers STOPPED on my way home from work Monday morning - rush hour, too - I had to pull over on I-5. I could NOT believe it was raining and no way was I going to chance getting smacked by all those semis!!! I was so freaking tired, but that sure woke me up! Anyway, when I restarted the car they came back on and I high tailed it home.

If I pick up a box of VOODOO donuts, do ya think I can borrow your friend's switch brain?!

Melissa - I'm with ya. The multiple kids shows I watched once, said, "Thank God that is NOT my life", yawned and flipped the channel. Then again, I really don't watch much TV.

Shannon said...

OMG Kaytie, I-5, PNW rain, rush hour, no wipers......recipe for disaster!!! Your motor may be trying to die...not a good thing at all.

KaytieJ said...

Shannon - went out again this morning getting son up to the bus stop. Granted not the freeway, but I could barely see to get back home. Had to hang my head out the window - LOL! Guess it is shop time for the 'Burb.

Lisa said...

Hi.

I am tired.

That is all.

I hope everyone is well, though. :-)

Muliebrity said...

I just got the scare of a life time! Hubby is out of town, so I set the house alarm (don't usually). It just went off and I found Hunter (2 y/o, head injury, fell in pool. etc), crying. I asked him is he opened the door, he said, "yes, I need my pillow pet!" "Where is your pillow pet?" "In the street." HE WAS GOING OUT THE FRONT DOOR AT 330 IN THE MORNING! I am going to end of on the news!

Melissa said...

Margaret-If you're lurking could you please just let me know you're out there. I heard about the hostage situation yesterday that was going on in MD and I'm hoping you weren't affected.

Melissa said...

Mulie-Your Hunter would cause me to have a heart attack daily! I hope that he was okay after his little "outing" last night/this morning.

Lisa-How's your moms recovery going? Has she started driving you crazy yet?

Margo said...

Hi Melissa - you're sweet. Silver Spring isn't really near me. I was thinking about our converstaion the other day in relation to reality shows - that dude did NOT like shows about kids or babies!

Mulie - that would be scary!

Poor Arse, Lisa and Jake :(

Melissa said...

Margaret-Sorry, but if it's not in Florida I have no clue how close/far away from each other places are. I guess I could have Googled it. Doh! Oh well, glad to hear that all is well. Are you going to be getting any nasty weather as a result of Earl?

Margo said...

Random Geography - Washington, DC is surrounded by the I495 beltway - Silver Spring is at the top of the beltway and I'm at the bottom. So it's really not too far from me. I have a friend who works on that block and she said they were in lockdown all afternoon.

Earl is a concern. The Potomac floods and people do dumb stuff. During Isabelle we lost power for a few days so we are stocked up on food, water and toilet paper :)

Shannon said...

I was just thinking about the timing of the Discovery situation and our convo about the kid shows....do you think that dude was a lurker and we inspired him?

Margo said...

It's a distict possibility!

Shannon said...

Well I guess maybe we have some power in the world after all :)

Margaret I really hope that you guys are safe from not only hurricane but any flooding it may bring along with it.

Margo said...

Mulie - I just read the pillow pet story again. Do you think he was out earlier in the day with the pillow pet without you knowing? I'm so glad you had the alarm on!

Shannon said...

HUGZ Lisa...hope today is a good day for you and Miss Arse. Isnt today the end of the 48 hour prison sentence?

Margo said...

Shannon - I showed this to Hannah this morning. This was Alexandria during Isabelle in 03. Of course to a kid it looks like fun and she's bummed we don't have a boat - lol
http://tinyurl.com/377fq5n

Shannon said...

Oh the innocence of a child who just sees the fun of the boat ride and not the realization that the water is that high in the houses too.....

Robin in Montana said...

Melissa - thank you for asking about me. :-) I'm here and there. Not hiding out, but started a "real job," plus tyring to finish (still) some transcripts, plus a trip to Spokane for school clothes, getting ready for school, blah, blah, blah, and I've been kind of absent!

Melissa said...

That's just crazy Margaret. We haven't had anything that severe. Last year (or maybe it was the year before) when Tropical Storm Jean came through we had calf high flooding in our neighborhood. Nothing that serious. That kind of stuff just breaks my heart.

Melissa said...

RiM-Glad you were at least able to check with us. I've missed you! A real job?? May I ask what sort of real job?

Lisa said...

Hi, I'm here! The checkup on the transplant went very well! She can see the big E on the top of the chart now with that eye and sad as that sounds, that's a major thing. :-) She's a sweetheart, a good patient, but I'm tired of taking care of two houses and having to be The Drop Lady every 2 hours, 'round the clock. Shannon, her 48 hours at 90% bedrest are up. Now she had 48 hours on 80%. Woooo. But Saturday, she can get back to normal except for lifting, bending etc. I'll still have to be there a lot but at least she can stay up more, sleep on her side, etc.

Tara in NC, are you coastal? Are y'all expecting much from Earl?

Robin in Montana said...

Melissa - I have a part-time job as a pharmacy technician (in-training.) It's definitely different than what I've been doing, but it was time for a change!

Shannon said...

I just went to apply for a job with our local sheriffs dept......yeah decided not to since the list of DISqualifications was about 3 times the size as the qualifications. I am actually qualified to do the job but with their enormous list of things that can instantly disqualify you I figure I wouldnt get it....yes it scared me off.

Tara said...

Re- de-lurking once again! I'm like this in real life, too. I never finish anything! I have about 50 undone projects around my house.
Anyway, no I am not coastal. Inland all the way
to western tip of NC - probably at least 8-9 hours from coast. Thank goodness I live in the mountains at times like this.

Shannon said...

That is good Tara knowing that you arent in the line of fire from this thing...it makes some of us worry :)

Shannon said...

And totally random question/statement of the day......How in the hell did I apparently manage to clip the toenails of one foot the other day and completely forget the other on???

Muliebrity said...

Hey, all!

Margaret, There is no way in hell his pillow pet was ever outside. He doesn't even really care about it that much. Logan is the one obsessed with it, Hunter is just kind of indifferent. I think he may have been sleep walking, because he didn't remember any of it today. He *is only 2, so so I can't always take his word for everything, but I feel pretty confident that he would have been able to communicate something about last night.

Melissa said...

Shannon-I can understand/relate. I only managed to shave one leg in the shower yesterday morning. My brain must have been misfiring or something.

RiM-Sounds interesting. That's what my sister in law does and she really likes it. She's been at her store since she was in high school.

Lisa said...

Tara, I'm glad you'll be safe and I hope anyone lurking and in the line of Earl is, too.

Shannon, I was hired at our local jail, a job I very much wanted, and then couldn't pass the background check since I shared a (then) minor child with a convicted felon. It didn't matter that we were divorced and he lived in another state. I understood but was disappointed. They can be tough but they have to be.

I am so tired. My mom is in my bed with 3 of 4 cats...I've got to put more crap in the cadaver eye at 2am so I'm staying up. She? Is snoring. Bitch.

Muliebrity said...

Very exciting news about Ms A's eye. I tried to post something this morning, but blogger ate it. Bastard. Going to Branson this weekend. That's all.

KaytieJ said...

Great news on the Big E, Lisa. Sorry for the q 2 hour drops, though :-/

KaytieJ said...

Have a great time at Branson Mulie.

Margo said...

Mulie - I was a big time sleep walker. When I was 5 I fell down the stairs, broke my arm, but never woke up. When my parents found me I was practically standing on my head - sound asleep. Scary what little ones will do!

Lisa said...

*waves hi*

Just seeing if anything is happening here. Ever the optimist, I am.

Jeanette said...

Just stopping by to say hi, hope all the Daisies are having a great Labor Day weekend!

Lisa, how is Ms. Arse doing? Any sight improvement yet?

Lisa said...

Hey, Jeanette! Quiet weekend here, nothing special. What about you and yours? Her sight is very slowly improving, yes...it's going to take some time but what can you do? Thanks for asking. :-)

Karen said...

Evening Daisy's! Very quiet weekend here! Lisa - do you realize that you posted here at 6:20 pm on Friday night and Saturday night? What a co-inky-dink!

I spent the day with my mom and her sister (my aunt) at my sister's house - fun day!

My cousin had her baby Friday - and I was with her in the delivery room for the scheduled c-section... the spinal did not take and she felt every.single.thing that they did to her - other than the initial incision.... As soon as they got the baby out, they put her under general anesthesia... Rough morning and rough way to delivery a baby - but the baby is healthy and beautiful!!!

Hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend!!

Lisa said...

Karen, what an awful delivery but congrats on the new baby in your family!

"Evening Daisy's! Very quiet weekend here! Lisa - do you realize that you posted here at 6:20 pm on Friday night and Saturday night? What a co-inky-dink!"

I am, obviously, a creature of habit. ;-)

Shannon, are you ever going to change this post?
