A post for a few days

So this video cracks me up.......Correct me if I am wrong but isnt Bill O'Reilly one of those very right wing conservatives that does everything in their power to make sure that blame is shifted and fingers are pointed so long as it isnt at their guy?

I just thought that a little pot/kettle action might be fun for an otherwise uneventful Thursday morning.

I seriously love O'Reilly. He's one of those that I don't get how you don't like him. I think he get's labeled right wing because he's not left wing. Again, I don't listen or watch him very often, but when I do, I agree with him most of the time or he really encourages me to establish a view on something. I think he is very smart.

Muliebrity said...

Anyone watching/already watched the View with POTUS? I'm watching it now.

Lisa said...

I'm so confused as to what the hell was *actually going on in that video. Help. I do agree that O'Reilly isn't a total hardass right=winger compared to some but make no mistake, he's a right-winger. He actually has a tendency to make my liberal side flare with worse than Beck does, but I don't dislike him.

I watched a bit of The View. I thought it was boring, actually. No big deal either way. What did you think?

Lisa said...

By the way, this is making me curious, Mulie. Why "POTUS" instead of "Obama"? Nothing wrong with it...just nosy since the number of letters are the same.

Muliebrity said...

I just did POTUS, like #POTUS on twitter and so I continued doing it everywhere else, I guess. I also said POTUS on FB, because I feel like it's more respectful. I have some FB friends would would want to start on the "it should be Mr Obama" and then the "no, PRESIDENT Obama" arguments. POTUS should cover it. Don't tell me that POTUS is somehow disrespectful?

Lisa said...

Not at all disrespectful, that's why I made a point of saying there's nothing wrong with it. Me saying "Obama" is probably more disrespectful, in fact. I was just curious since I've never seen a regular person on a blog refer to him that way, so I asked.

Sandy said...

I like watching O'Reilly. ::ducking and weaving:: I love the way that he gets under people's skin. I find it amusing.

::waving hi btw::

Lisa said...

Hi, Sandy! How's Thursday treating you?

Margo said...

Hello ladies - rainy beach day.

Have you ever seen the video where O'Reily kirks out and is yelling at everyone. It's SO funny.

What is Potus?

Lisa said...

Hi, Margaret and "President Of The United States". Rainy beach days are beautiful!

My new glasses just came and wow, I love them all. I'd totally recommend this place, as long as you don't mind waiting a couple of weeks for them. 4 prescription pair, including one sunglasses, for around $26...can't beat it! The quality is nice, too. I need to do a bit of adjusting but it's no big deal at all. I'm happy. :-)

Margo said...

The Honorable Lisa - thank you for the POTUS definition. And yea for new glasses!

Margo said...

i love mom.

Margo said...

My daughter is learning to type :)

Lisa said...

Aww, that's cute, Margaret.

*waves at Mini-Margaret*

That's cute Margaret

Hi Sandy

Hi Mulie

Hi Lisa

I dont like Bill because I see him as a pompous asshole who like some other "news" personalities are all about forgetting the whole story and how things started and simply focusing all blame on one person. I think part of it is also that peeps like Bill and Rush tend to be so party driven that they vilify those with opposing views.

In my opinion it is people like this who have voices who are heard by millions that keep this nation from joining together and actually seeing the reality of things. I am sick and tired of news people blaming the republicans, blaming the democrats....when will people realize that both parties are screwing this country into the dirt?

Sandy said...

Lisa, Thursday is treating me just fine, and you? I'm glad you like your new glasses. I need to get new ones myself. Can't see with them, can't see without them.

Shannon, that's why I like Bill. He's a pompous asshole. I *love when he goes off on people and makes them squirm in their seat. I find it extremely funny. And don't even get me started on Beck...lol. He is definitely a few fries short of a happy meal.

Agree with what you say though about the millions listening to the drivel of this side said and that side said. I think this country (the people as a whole) and the government have lost sight of "We the People". I also don't think it's Republican or Democrat. It's who has the most money and power wins and fuck the little guy.

::bows and steps off of soapbox::

Shannon said...

::Standing ovation for Sandy::

Oh if "We the People" was only a real thing anymore. I dont even see a difference between Dems and Reps anymore...they are two sides of the same coin who in reality bring about the same exact results in opposite.

HAHAHAHA Right now on Shep. Smith they are talking about "ethical" charges being pressed against Rep. Rangel of NY.......ethics in politics? Really? There are alleged ethics guidelines that politicians are supposed to follow? And here I thought it was all about screw the people and get as much as you can before they see the light LOL

Sandy said...

::takes another deep bow::

There are ethics in politics? Ummm...okay if they say so.

I come from a lineage of Democrats (wow that makes me sound all well educated and special)but I have to tell you, I'm *not happy with the current government at all.

Shannon said...

HAHAHA

Sandy my mother is still in denial that I am not a Conservative Republican like she is....even my father's family has always been predominantly Republican and conservative.

What would be funny is if a random poll was done of just 100 average people and find out who actually READS ballots and candidate views and such and how many vote based solely upon political affiliation.

I have defended the current administration on nearly every issue up until this whole BP mess. Though I still believe a lot of problems this administration is having to deal with is inherited from the previous administration, they are unfortunately causing enough new problems to make their mark.

Sandy said...

Yes, this administration was left with a mess. I often said during election time that whoever got in better have their hip waders on because they were walking into a pile of crap.

As for the poll, I would bet that 80% based their vote solely upon political affiliation and the other 20% *actually did some leg work.

Sandy said...

Actually thinking about the poll a few more seconds, my guess would be 90/10.

Lisa said...

You know, I always sort of half-way liked Charlie Rangel until this. We *should have ethics in politics and we never will until we start forcing the issue. He should be removed from office, imo. Forget ethical charges, he broke the law.

Y'all are right that "We the people..." is a joke now and we, the people, have allowed it to become so. There's no wrong side in this mess - both are. What we, the *people, need to do is insist on voting on every big issue, like health care reform. There's not a reason in the world we can't have permanent (or easily set up) polling places ready to go on a week's notice all over this country, and there's even less reason we can't set up some safe method of online voting. Big spending bill? Give everyone a full month to read it, have it translated, etc., then bring it up to vote. Trouble is, all the little special interest groups wouldn't get fistfuls of dollars shoved up their asses with that.

I am so, so very disappointed in this administration and am just hoping we can chalk it up as a learning experience and move on, hopefully undoing some of the damage that's been done. My fear is that people will over-react to the other extreme, though, and we get someone like Sarah Palin elected.

Lisa said...

"I have defended the current administration on nearly every issue up until this whole BP mess."

Waaaait, y'all were okay with the healthcare reform bill?

Sandy said...

Lisa, I'm definitely not okay with the healthcare reform bill. ::being a person who has to obtain their *own health insurance::

"My fear is that people will over-react to the other extreme, though, and we get someone like Sarah Palin elected."

That, too, is my fear.

Lindsay said...

Sigh.

I love anyone who yells at Rush Limbaugh! I kid. I kid. But it is kind of funny, IMO.

I'm ever so disappointed in this administration, and while this is more than likely not a popular stance to take, I think the vote wasn't based on issues or political party. I don't know how to word this, but I think people (especially white people) were caught up in the whole, "Hey, looky, I just made history. I helped elect our nation's first African-American president. Go me!". And the candidates actual stance on things were of little consequence.

I can't believe you keep pulling me out of lurkdom to spout off about politics!!!

Lisa said...

*ties Lindsay to a pole*

Sandy, I have to pay for my own, too, and but sucks but that's life. Sadly, I believe that it's going to soon become too expensive for me, *because of this healthcare reform bill. At that point, I'll have no choice but to be on the government program since it will be required to carry insurance, which is exactly what they're wanting to happen. The more of us they can get on and in the system, the more control they have over us. I know that sounds so paranoid and extremist, but it really isn't anymore. It's just disgusting and sad.

Lindsay, I freely admit that Obama's race played a part in why I voted for him, but not for the reason you stated. We were, and still are, in grave danger from people who have dark skin and foreign (to us) sounding names. Don't get me wrong, I mean that as no slight to these people since I understand their anger and feel much of it is justified. But from a pure safety-in-the-world point of view, I thought it was would be a good thing to have a dark skinned man with a Muslim name for president and I still that I was right about that. I think it has helped keep us safer. His refusal to kiss Israel's (nation, not McKinney) ass has helped, too, and is one of the few things I still applaud him for. But he's even undoing this progress with what is happening in Afghanistan. I don't get that at all.

Lindsay said...

I would guess that your reason for voting for him is in the minority!

I'm pretty much surrounded by white, upper middle class women daily. And in my estimation, it was all about the race card. And when I think about it, it still shows how big a part race still plays in this country, and that makes me sad. So even though we have an African American president, it's not even at all what MLK, Jr. had wanted where judgments are made on the content of character and not color of skin. I wonder if we'll ever be to that point as a nation?

I am so grateful that we seem to be a little protected from external threats. But our internal problems are going to be the end of us. We cannot continue to spend the way we are spending. It's insanity. The healthcare bill bugs me to no end. I do not think you should be *forced to insure yourself or be fined. And we have not always had adequate coverage - so it's not a case of, "Oh, you don't know what it's like to not have insurance". We've had to buy it ourselves or negotiate it into compensation packages. Also, I am terribly afraid that this will force Travis' current employer to quit offering insurance at all because he'll be priced out of it, and we'll get less coverage at a higher rate. This? Scares me as a mother of 4 kids who although relatively healthy, can end up in the ER at a moments notice.

What did you use to tie me here, Lisa? Did you learn tying knots as a girl scout? :D

Shannon said...

I will say that I *was for health care reform. I have to say that I am definitely *not happy with what it is working to be. I was hoping much more for health care practices (read insurance and such) to be reformed.

Lisa said...

Lindsay, I've been sitting here thinking about what you said and I do think you are right. I know quite a few middle to upper class white folks who have always been conservative Independents or moderate Republicans who voted for Obama and couldn't really give a good reason as to why. I think you're exactly right as to the reason. It made them feel all politically correct and...well, trendy.

Shannon, you've roped me in now with the same rope I used on Lindsay with this statement. How did you think those reforms could happen?

Lindsay said...

Well, I must untie myself now and take one of the boys to a birthday party. It was fun to hang out on my soap box with you girlies :)

Lindsay said...

I'll be back later - this discussion is actually very interesting. In a good way. Not like a sarcastic way.

Lisa said...

I need to run, too. I'm always glad when you're around, Lindsay. :-) Maybe we can actually entice some others to poke their heads in for this, too.

Sandy said...

I got sunshine on a cloudy day...funding came through and my son can go to preschool through out school district.

It's not just the Federal government that f'ed up. My state is broke. Last year the state didn't release funding for early learning until one week before school started. Try getting a school physical in that amount of time.

Shannon said...

Sandy I 100000% agree with you. It is not just the federal level that is so screwed up. Personally I would love to see the books for my own state/county and figure out why it is that we are talking of cutting BILLIONS from our schools this year to make ends meet. I just dont get it.
Why is it that every day americans have to learn to live within a budget but our governments do not?

Muliebrity said...

My husband sent me the craziest email today and I am livid. This shit make no sense. I'll post some of it here in a minute.

Muliebrity said...

"Why is it that every day americans have to learn to live within a budget but our governments do not?"

Amen! I say this about the Gov and these businesses all the time! Why are we supposed to save for a rainy day? Why do we have to budget?

Dear FSAFEDS Participant,

The new healthcare reform legislation produces important changes to your Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA).

Eligible Over-the-Counter Medicines and Drugs Will Require a Prescription to be Reimbursed - Effective January 1, 2011

Beginning January 1, 2011, currently eligible over-the-counter (OTC) products that are medicines or drugs (e.g., acne treatments, allergy and cold medicines, antacids, etc.) will not be eligible for reimbursement from your Health Care FSA - unless - you have a prescription for that item written by your physician. The only exception is insulin - you will not need a prescription from January 1, 2011 forward. Other currently eligible OTC items that are not medicines or drugs, such as bandages and nasal strips, will not require a prescription.

Here are a few Q&As:

1. How will 2010 Grace Period incurred (January 1, 2011 through March 15, 2011) OTC expenses be handled?

It won't matter that you are using your 2010 funds - any eligible OTC medicine or drug purchased from January 1, 2011 forward will not be reimbursed unless you can provide us with a prescription written by your physician.

2. Will I be required to submit additional documentation with my claim form?

Yes. If you currently use a portion of your FSA funds for eligible OTC that are medicines or drugs, you will need to provide us with valid prescriptions for those items on January 1, 2011 and beyond.

3. I'm not sure how much I will need to elect for the 2011 Benefit Period. What should I do?

During the Federal Benefits Open Season for the upcoming 2011 Benefit Period, you should carefully estimate the amount you elect to contribute to your Health Care FSA. Once Open Season is over, you cannot change your annual election amount unless you experience a Qualifying Life Event (QLE).

4. How will the January 1 effective date impact my OTC spending?

The below chart provides a summary with examples.

Date of OTC Expense

Reimbursement Eligibility

Example

On or before 12/31/2010

Eligible OTC expenses for medicines and drugs do not require a prescription.

Sally buys a one-month supply of Claritin on 12/21/2010.

Her expense will be reimbursed as long as she submits her claim on or before April 30, 2011.

On or after 01/01/2011

OTC expenses for medicines and drugs CANNOT be reimbursed unless they are accompanied by a prescription (except for insulin).

It does not matter if you are using your 2010 or 2011 Health Care account - OTC incurred expenses for medicines and drugs will not be reimbursed without a prescription.

Sally buys Claritin on 01/03/2011 but does not have a prescription for it. She will not be reimbursed for this expense.

Sally buys Claritin on 01/03/2011 and has a prescription for it. FSAFEDS will reimburse the expense.

If you have questions, call us toll-free, at 1-877-FSAFEDS (372-3337), TTY: 1-800-952-0450, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time, or via email at FSAFEDS@shps.com.

Sincerely,

FSAFEDS

Muliebrity said...

That came out a *lot bigger then I thought it would, but can you see why these OTC rules are a problem? That means we have to go to the doc for every effin little thing for an "RX". More paper work for everyone. I don't get it.

Shannon said...

Lisa I would love to see every American be able to have health insurance. Every American that is willing to *work to have it. I do NOT want to see health care as something that is going to break small businesses or individuals who get the coverage for their employees or families.

Right now costs for medical care is out of this world. Why should it cost $100 just for a doctor to see you for 15 minutes? Why should someone have to pay thousands per day for a room in a hospital? Why should a family without any serious health issues have to pay astronomical premiums every month to have insurance.....you know the family of 4 who goes to the doctor 2-3 times a year for routine visits? Why does a company doing research and such for new medications have to spend millions if not billions, why does it cost so much?

Now to fix some of these things I think that reform needs to come with putting some kind of cap on what can be charged for everyone involved. Medical providers need to be given some type of incentive, cut, break, write off, in order to keep their costs affordable. Suppliers of those providers need to have a cap on what they can charge those providers. Insurance companies need to reflect such reforms and lower their premiums so that every working American can afford insurance.

For families facing crisis be it sudden illness or long term special needs then that is when the fed govt should step in with helping subsidize the costs.

In a perfect world it would all be possible.

Muliebrity said...

Shannon, because these insurance companies for FOR-PROFIT businesses. They are raking in record profits on the backs of working Americans!

Shannon said...

Mulie that is crazy. Maybe for some of these things you can have your doctor do a year long prescription....like if it is monthly you have 12 refills. Otherwise that is crazy because it is going to cost more in the long run having to go to the doctor just to get a script....what is the point in having that part of the plan then? I am sure that the doctors office will be just as thrilled as you are with this new rule.

Shannon said...

Oh yes they are Mulie.....insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies in my opinion thrive and gain ridiculous profits off the NEEDS of other. They profit off the misery of others.

That is why I want to see them have some reforms. I mean after all if we are looking at taking the capitalism aspect of health care off the table then why not keep the market and people's ability to have the choice and start reforming those companies?

Lindsay said...

Okay, but a *lot of the reason for exorbitant costs at the docs office and hospitals is because of malpractice litigation. If there was some sort of reform on that end capping damages amounts, they would be able to control some of their costs that way. I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to recoup damages that forever impact your quality of life or ability to earn a living, but some of this stuff people are suing over is crazy.

KaytieJ said...

I voted for Obama because the old white guy and born again white gal scared the crap out of me.

I actually admired the old white guy because of his years of service to this country. I just felt it would be more of the same drivel of the Bush regime.

Obama offered Hope for the economy, health care and foreign relations.

Shannon said...

Lindsay I agree on that note also....I meant to include that in my ideas and somehow forgot.

Personally I see my friend Joe who won a multi-million malpractice suit...he fully deserved that. It covered his medical costs for the rest of his life and compensated him since he will NEVER be able to work again....this all happened when he was 22 years old. Surgery on his back after being rear ended while stopped by someone going 60 turned into him almost being paralyzed for the rest of his life when it was discovered that a sponge thingy was left in his back. Not all of the money he won will ever be seen as cash most of it goes that he now has his health care and any future surgeries covered.

We have seen this nation become a sue happy country. People sue because they know that they can win millions for ANYTHING. I fully agree that caps need to be in place and honestly if a doctor has too many lost suits well then by golly maybe he shouldnt be a doctor anymore ANYWHERE!

Shannon said...

Hi Kaytie........I like you have grown tired of the grandfather white born again Christian type.

Maybe we will still get the promised change with Obama before this country gets tired of change and goes back to same old.

KaytieJ said...

Waving at Shanon. Hi Lindsay! Good news Sandy!

Do NOT get me started on Health Care Costs.

Shannon said...

LOL Kaytie I can only imagine being on the medical provider side of what you see with costs.

KaytieJ said...

Shannon - Meet you at VooDoo? I am in serious need of a Maple Bacon Bar :-D

Mulie. That is nuts. I prescription for a fucking band aid?

Shannon said...

Damn I would LOOOOVVVVVEEEEEE to Kaytie :) I love maple bacon * in best Homer voice....Bacon, YUM

Lindsay said...

Hi Kaytie :) I forgot, you probably have a *very unique perspective on health care costs!

Shannon - and in those cases, absolutely a settlement is warranted! It's just some of these other schmoes. The other thing that concerns me, and I don't know if this is a legit complaint or not, is that some doctors don't accept medicare or medicaid because of the wait times and discounted reimbursement. Soooo, if it's run so terribly now that some doctors refuse to work with the gov't, what will happen when we are *all covered by gov't plans?

Lindsay said...

Seriously, I'm going to have to hit Voodoo when I come down in the end of August. Maple bacon bar? Kind of weird, but maple smoked bacon itself is good, so why not?

Shannon said...

I agree Lindsay that is part of what almost killed my son when he was 9. Sure our clinic accepted medicaid, which is what we had, but I think that was what made it easier to let the triage nurse dismiss me when I called about my son. His appendix ruptured and we had to wait until the Tuesday to get him to the regular doctor.....he got to leave there and go straight to the hospital where he has surgery within an hour of walking in the door.

That is why I dont think that the reform of government insurance is such a good idea...I would rather see changes start in other areas to make it more affordable for everyone.

Shannon said...

And Linds if you have never had VooDoo you dont know what you are missing. The maple bacon bars are divine but all of their doughnuts are some of the best I have ever had.

Lindsay said...

I agree completely Shannon! Other areas would have been a better place to start, IMHO. Yeah, I sure sound humble and not at all opinionated on the subject! I had no idea about your son. That just sucks and is not fair.

And I'm totally putting VooDoo on my to do list. I'm going to google it to find out where exactly it is. Maybe my cousin would prefer donuts to a cake for her baby shower!

Tammi said...

The government is fucked. And that's all I have to say about that! lol

Tammi said...

And O'Reilly, Rush, Oberman, Maddow...they all make me want to puke and rip my hair out. I don't care if I agree with them, they drive me insane!

Hi Tammi! I'm Lindsay - I don't think we've met :D

Tammi said...

Hey Lindsay!

Lisa and Robin introduced me to the blog. Nice to meet you!

Lindsay said...

It's nice to meet you. I lurk frequently, but always get pulled out of lurkdom for these political talks. Talk about anything else, and I can keep my mouth shut, but on politics, notsomuch.

Tammi said...

I go back and forth on it. Honestly, I just don't care. They all lie, they all promise and in the grand scheme of things my life stays the same. Sometimes I don't even know why I vote...sigh...

Lisa said...

Shannon, it's impossible to reform private business of any type. It's only possible up to and including the point they allow themselves to be reformed. Insurance companies are considered financial institutions and not health care institutions for a reason...their original goal was to make money. Period. To do so, they had to provide a service, naturally, so they did just that. I know it's not all bleedy-hearty politically correct to say but a *fact is that an insurance company's primary concern is its stockholders, as it should be. That means turning the biggest profit possible for those people. If not for those people, the insurance company would cease to exist. Do not, not for a single moment, believe health insurance companies turn a big profit off the premiums they receive...they do not. Also, the primary goal of an health insurance, as it was intended, was never to pay office visits, medications, pregnancies, etc. It was to cover something unexpectedly catastrophic. Period. Slowly, the companies caved to the liberal, feel-good crowd who had big money and bought their way into the boardroom where decisions are made when they should have just shut their doors early on. As lovely as it would be for everyone to have free or affordable health insurance, it simply isn't possible. Yes, like Shannon said, doctors and hospitals charge a lot, but their overhead is enormous. Malpractice insurance, staffing, and even the cost of supplies drive the costs up. Kaytie, I hope, will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it would be very, very difficult for health care professionals or institutions to charge less than they do. If insurance companies charge less, the profits will drop for their shareholders, who will then bail on them and they'll go under. It simply cannot happen, this "affordable" healthcare...it's a fiscal impossibility, imo.

Tammi said...

Lisa just wrote a lot....lol

Lindsay said...

Kaytie - I've heard that somewhere . . .

I'm seriously rotting my teeth out just looking at the website! I want the one with fruit loops on it!

Lindsay said...

Sandy Blvd. here I come :D

Lisa said...

Also, too, around here and in a few other areas I'm familiar with, Medicaid patients get top priority in care. I've been told by more than one health care professional that, statistically, they are more inclined to sue than self-pays or those with regular insurance. But, within the last few months, I know of a couple of pharmacies and several doctors who refuse to take it anymore. They say the paperwork involved and the low level/slow rate of reimbursement makes it not worth the trouble. *That is a problem with a government run program. So, imagine that...amplified. Because it's what we've just had passed.

Lindsay said...

And there is one with Tang on it? Oh, my, word. I will have died and gone to heaven.

Lisa said...

Tammi, it's a damn sore topic with me. Be grateful it's not welfare we're talking about.

Aaaaaannnnnnddddd, I'm pretty sure I'm getting them to go. Don't think the kids need to see some of them.

Lindsay said...

Well, I guess I'd better go figure out dinner. But I'll be back for when Lisa takes on welfare :D

Kidding!

Okay, thanks for the donut link Kaytie. I gained 12 pounds just dreaming of what i was going to eat.

Nice to meet you Tammi :)

Lisa - thanks for the compliment about me being around earlier. I'll drop in more often!

See you Shannon!

KaytieJ said...

:::sitting over by Tammi on the O'Reilly Puke Factor::: We can admire our pedicures :-D

Tammi said...

Well, the biggest problem with welfare is it is abused. People live off it,instead of using it as a way to get back on their feet, etc. You can be damned if we needed it I would be in line for my free cheese, but I also know we would be doing everything in our power to get off of it.
There are no lines drawn. No boundaries.

KaytieJ said...

Lindsay - Ummmmmm.....here is a Girl Scout Bowie Knife to cut that Pink Taffeta chord Lisa tied you to Daisy with.

Lisa said...

"I got sunshine on a cloudy day...funding came through and my son can go to preschool through out school district."

I got so worked up that I forgot to say YAY!!!

Lisa said...

No, Tammi, the biggest problem with welfare is that it even exists for people other than the terminally ill or the severely physically or mentally handicapped.

KaytieJ said...

Perking up! Welfare Debate? Ooooh brings back good times, good times. And damn, Robin decided to take Family Time. Sigh.

Tammi said...

I don't mind it for a family if the sole bread winner loses a job, etc. It can be a good thing, but again, in the US we abuse the heck out of everything and the govt just lets it go on and on and on...

Tammi said...

I feel Lisa writing a lot...fingers might be smoking...lol

Lisa said...

Lol, actually not at all. I was looking at the doughnuts. :-D

Tammi said...

Doughnuts are definitely better then welfare! lol

Tammi said...

Ok, I am all over that Cock-n-Balls doughnut....Bavarian cream...

Shannon said...

Yes Lisa I know what you are saying about insurance companies is true just like overhead for medical providers is true.....that is why I was saying that there needs to be caps and such. Caps on what a hospital can charge, caps on what the doctor can charge, caps on medical suppliers can charge those hospitals and doctors......and please forgive me but continuation of what GW started with putting caps on and an end to class action lawsuits. I mean seriously when you have to advertise every other commercial break for your lawsuit there is a problem.

And I love doughnuts

Lisa said...

I'm not a sweets person but finally decided I'd like a voodoo doll one. I do like chocolate and raspberry together. I wish they'd make a chocolate chili one...I could get more enthused.

Lisa said...

Shannon, I agree about caps for lawsuits but if you start trying to cap anything else, you're going to put them out of business, either by choice or not. Is that what we *really want?

Shannon said...

Oh and I dont know if you guys remember or not but back in like March I discovered that in 2 months I had suddenly gained 10 lbs which started my whole thing with freaking out about my resulting blood work.

Well in the last month and a half I have now discovered that diabetes is making itself known in my family....My grandfather was diagnosed late last year and just recently my aunt was diagnosed.

I am proud to say that just by cutting way down on my Dr Pepper addiction I have lost those 10 lbs and will hopefully be able to get good news in October when I have my repeat blood work.

That is not what I want but I think it should almost be more of a contract type of thing where services are provided at such and such. And also like I had said I think that the govt should be more be there to subsidize when insurance isnt there. Not provide as much health insurance but a resource that working americans can tap into or those who dont have insurance. Or shit even if there was just something in place where a normal person can at least get check ups and such and a visit or two a year. Hell if it werent for me applying for help through our local hospital I wouldnt even know that I am running the risk for diabetes since I havent had blood work done in over 10 years.

So, basically you lean toward a far more Socialistic system than a Libertarian one, Shannon. Here's what I'm curious about...the government doesn't grow money on trees. I'm a taxpayer...I pay quarterly and get nothing back, as a result. Pure payment. Anyone who is on any type of public assistance at *all or who receives the EITC, isn't a taxpayer, for the record. And I'm by far not wealthy...I'd hazard a guess my house may be hard-pressed to meet Section 8 standard. So, why is it right that I have money taken away from my family, while I'm already paying for our own health insurance, food, etc., and given to someone else?

Lisa said...

By the way, good for you on the 10 pound loss and getting a grip on things that could be going wrong!

Serial posting before Project Runway comes on...you mentioning Dr. Pepper just made me realize I haven't had a Coke (by that name or any other) in maybe 3 days. I didn't put any in the fridge and finally forgot about them. Of course *now, I'll want one but still, yay. Erin, are you out there? How are you doing with it?

Shannon said...

Maybe more socialistic but I, even as someone who gets EITC and such things, think those things are BS pure and simple. I think that one of the main qualifiers is that there has to be at least one adult in the home employed to even begin to qualify. There should be premiums paid in order to keep from having the system over burdened. And for those who have insurance it should also be accessible for emergency events to help with expenses that are left after insurance....like you get into a car accident and have to be off work but there are still medical bills left to be paid.

I dont believe in handouts but I also realize that there are some, like myself who cannot afford insurance at this time. I think that if people want something from the 'system' then they have to be willing to work and they have to be willing to burden a portion of the cost as well.

IDK if that makes any sense but I try :)

"Maybe more socialistic but I, even as someone who gets EITC and such things, think those things are BS pure and simple."

Then why in the world take them if yo uthink they are BS?

"And for those who have insurance it should also be accessible for emergency events to help with expenses that are left after insurance....like you get into a car accident and have to be off work but there are still medical bills left to be paid."

There is supplemental insurance for that. It's not health insurance, nor should it be, but there is such a thing and you can certainly get it.

"I dont believe in handouts but I also realize that there are some, like myself who cannot afford insurance at this time."

Sure, I realize that, too. But the risk of pissing you off, isn't that a direct result of poor choices you and your family have made in life? Bluntly, can you tell me why your family would be entitled to another family's money more than they are?

"I think that if people want something from the 'system' then they have to be willing to work and they have to be willing to burden a portion of the cost as well."

But Shannon, if you need from the system, you will never contribute enough back into it to cover the costs of what you took. Well, unless you win the lottery or something. So, where does the deficit come from?

Shannon said...

HAHAHAHAHA Sandy dont you like watching me and AP debate such things? :)

I actually had an epiphany about 4 years ago about the whole thing with the EITC. Cant really explain how I came to it but I realized that it was crazy and completely wrong that I had worked the year before and made less then 15K for the year and not only did I get everything back that I had paid but I also was getting an additional 4K from the fed govt that I had done nothing but be poor to earn. I havent claimed it since.....let me tell you what it throws the people at H&R Block for a loop when I tell them I do not want it.

Yes we are currently receiving food stamps because I have to be able to feed my family, however, if things pan out and the resumes I have sent out this week do their job I will be able to tell the state that I no longer need nor want them.

When my kids were little little I received money for two months. I got a car given to me which gave me the ability to get a job since at that time I lived out in the middle of freaking no where.

My biggest thing with too many who receive help from the system are unwilling to work because they dont know how to function without that help. That means that they will never be able to be off the system.

As for the insurance portion of things. I can honestly and truthfully gone for jobs that offer benefits in the job description. The thing that they dont tell you is that they will work you only enough to keep you just under the requirements of being able to get them. Josh's work used to offer insurance but it was prohibitive to add family to it. A big part of the reason I have gone back to school is so that I have the skills and ability to get a job where I cant be screwed out of getting insurance.

And as far as deficit goes......our government in all levels is one of the worst run businesses ever. I would love to see the budget. I would love to see what they are spending tax payer money.

Now to "explain why I deserve other people's money".....This is why I think that people should have to have copays and should have to pay a premium. They will tax people regardless and they will do what they want with that money and if they are going to go ahead with giving that money to people for health care well shouldnt they also be at least working so it is their taxes as well and paying for it to help to offset the costs?

Sticking my neck out with an opinion - Angela is receiving food stamps for her and Tay. She works her ass off at her job - she is taking classes in college to better herself, she lives in a crappy ass neighborhood cause its all she can afford right now - and she uses me and her sister to babysit cause she can't afford daycare. She qualifies for food stamps and gets them to put food on the table for herself and her son... I don't know what she would do without them, there is absolutely nothing in her life she can cut out, to afford food. She doesn't have cable, she doesn't buy new clothes, she doesn't own designer "anything" and she is trying to better her life, but in the meantime, they need to eat... I'm greatful for her that the help is there for her...

I love our Shannon. I think she's just a terrific person, inside and out. It's okay that I don't agree with things she done, just as she may not agree with things I've done. It doesn't change hearts and Shannon's got a good one. :-)

Karen, I'll say the same about your Ang. I don't appreciate having to pay for her food and honestly don't believe it's right that I have to help do so. I'll ask you what I asked before...why should I have to take away from my family to fund hers? I know that sounds harsh but when looking at it all on a mass scale, it's a legitimate question.

Tammi said...

Lisa...but if you are doing ok...is it really "taking away from your family"? I don't like knowing my tax dollars are going to some crack whore on her 6th kid, but if they are going to someone who is trying to better themselves and NOT ABUSING it, I am ok. It's taxes...we have to pay them no matter what. Knowing they are going for good is much better then the alternative. And I am a FRICKING REPUBLICAN! LOL

Tammi said...

Ok, you ladies have a good morning...I am off to get my hair did. :) The "weave" is looking a little straggley..LOL!!

Shannon said...

See Tammi that is kind of how my mind works with it. They are going to take taxes regardless, even if they did away with social programs your taxes would be the same.

To me there is a huge difference between handouts and handups. Handouts go to the crack whore with her 6th kid who has never worked a day in her life and will never take any steps to improve her or her families situation. Handups are for those who are taking steps to get themselves to never having to look back again.

Ugh I get so long winded an d the really funny thing is that I completely see Lisa's POV also. Am I going to begrudge my neighbor for receiving the tax dollars that have been earmarked by our government for them? No. Will I be much happier knowing that they are doing something to get away from it and are paying into it as well? Definitely.

Shannon said...

LOL You better get that weave fixed Tammi......see you later and have fun and pray for no OOOPS

Muliebrity said...

"It's taxes...we have to pay them no matter what. Knowing they are going for good is much better then the alternative."

See, this is the same logic I figure about stealing from Wal-Mart, Target, etc. They build the loss of stolen goods into the the cost of their items. Even if they eliminate theft loss, they are not going to pass it to the consumer.

I do not steal things and don't think anyone should steal things, but I shouldn't have to pay more for my goods because other people steal things. At the same time, if theft goes down, I doubt that Wal-Mart is going to pass the savings to me, just as think that if social programs are eliminated, the government is not going to lower our taxes.

Lisa said...

Hey, all...hope everyone is well this morning! Tammi, I hope the weave comes out good. ;-)

"Lisa...but if you are doing ok...is it really "taking away from your family"?"

Tammi, your family is doing okay, no? How would you feel if someone came and helped themselves to your wallet without your permission, all because they know someone else who they feel needs your money more than you do? That's okay in your book, it's not taking that money away from your family when they do that?

It's not that I mind paying taxes...taxes are necessary. It's paying taxes toward something I can't also use at my own discretion that I have a problem with and, more importantly, it's paying taxes to support people and their actions that violate my own religious and moral standards that I mind *greatly.

Lol, so what's for dinner?

PJ said...

Muliebrity said...

Dinner?

I went on shopping spree on the Commissary on Wed to stock my freezer up with meat. They were running some great deals on chicken, so I got 15 lbs of fresh boneless skinless breasts for $1.69 lb. They were in 4 family sized packages and each package had an additional $1.50 off coupon. I also got 2 young whole chickens for $0.86 a lb, plus another $1.50 off each, 2 family sized chickens for $0.91 lb, plus another $1.50 off each bird, and a whole cut up chicken for $0.89 a lb, plus another $1.50 off.

I also got 2 10 lb rack of spare ribs for $5 each and need to figure out how I am going to fix those.

I also got a pork roast, a pork tenderloin, a beef roast, 2 packs of chorizo, a couple packs of all beef hot dogs, and they had a 3 lb roll of the 97% ground beef for $6.50, so I'll have to see of it's as lean as they say it is.

So, I have no idea what is for dinner. I will probably be asking for some creative ways to cook all this nonsense.

Lisa said...

Whoa, you got some great deals! Spare ribs at 50 cents a pound? Damn. Pop a whole chicken in if you have one thawed...that'll be easy and good. I have a half picnic cut of pork (raw, unsmoked ham, so whatever it's really called) in the crockpot. It's smelling good. I've marinated it for a day in ginger beer and garlic. I think I'll bake some sweet potatoes but beyond that, I have no idea.

Karen said...

Mulie - thats allota chicken!!! your family will start clucking!! But really good deals!

Lisa - I agree with you that if someone came to my wallet and took the money without asking me I'd be pissed, no matter how good I am doing. But we pay taxes no matter what - the way the money is spent we have no choice in - your taxes are the same whether there are 200 or 2 million people accepting food stamps. I think there are alot worse things that our tax money is spent on - other than helping someone out that needs a hand-up. I agree that the crack whore with 6 kids who has no desire to get out of the system shouldn't continue to receive benefits for life... If it were regulated so that you had a cap on what you could qualify for over a lifetime, or requirement that you need to work/volunteer so many hours to receive the benefits - I think it would help reduce the number of people receiving benefits. I just think that I'd rather see my hard earned money paid into taxes go for a single mother who is trying to make herself a better life than say to fund a foreign war - or send more 20 year olds into other countries to come home in body bags... THAT pisses me off!

I also think that the rules for food stamps should be a bit stricter - and can only be used to purchase nutritional food - and not candy - cookies, soda, etc. I have been behind someone in the grocery store that is stacking their t-bone steaks up there, and their name brand items, and their cases of soda and then pay for it with food stamps...

Also I have paid taxes for a long time, so has my ex, my mom, brother, sister, etc. and if one of my kids needs help from the government for a bit, I think that the taxes paid in by just my family members that are willing to help out would cover the cost of food stamps... or whatever government help is given...

I'm not making alot of sense today to me - I hope that all makes sense!!

I love it that we can agree to disagree on things here, and still talk about dinner!!

I'm cooking fresh green beans for dinner, not sure what I'm having with them, but they are smelling sooo good it may turn into a mid afternoon meal instead of dinner!

Erin said...

Mulie- wrap the spare ribs in foil and season. Cook on low (300) for a bunch o hours. You can add bbq or any other sauce. If I have leftover meat from the ribs, i shred it, mis with bbq sauce and eat or freeze for a quick meal. Over rice or on a sandwich.

I have no idea what to make for dinner. I am thinking vodka might be nice.

AP- I was doing great on the soda purge, but I seem to have aquired 2 babies and now my need for caffiene is as great as my need for sleep.

Erin said...

I make even less sense than you Karen (hi btw) and my only $.02 on this whole debate is *MANDATORY *SUPERVISED drug testing for food stamps etc.

Muliebrity said...

I also don't really blame people who apply for and receive benefits. I am not mad at them, I am mad at the government. So many people are enabled by handouts. I am a fan of hand-ups.

Muliebrity said...

"I make even less sense than you Karen (hi btw) and my only $.02 on this whole debate is *MANDATORY *SUPERVISED drug testing for food stamps etc."

My *problem with this is, the children will suffer. Children who did not ask to be brought into these situations. They will go without food AND be possibly thrown into a system that can't handle the children already in there. I think that if the public wants to see testing done, then they have to be willing to take these children in, pay for the costs of the tests, and for drug treatment programs and counseling. It would probably cost more money to do all of the previous things, then it is to provide drug users with welfare.

I do think that there should be restrictions on what food stamps are used on though.

Muliebrity said...

I feel more strongly that those accepting assistance should not be positive for nicotine. Pot stays in a persons system for way longer than all other street drugs, so those who are likely on heavy drugs would not necessarily be caught. I equate pot with alcohol, so unless they can find a way to restrict alcohol too, testing is not really a solution.

Muliebrity said...

<---- serial poster

Erin said...

The children suffer even without the testing for assistance, do not doubt that for even a millisecond. I would much rather see a child exposed to nicotine, than street drugs, or methadone. Since I am living that first hand, I get to trump everyone on *that discussion, unless you can pull out *your methadone baby.

Lisa said...

I couldn't agree with Erin more about drug testing being a condition of receiving assistance. Random and frequent drug testing, in fact. If you aren't using drugs, you won't care. We drug test government employees who actually work for their money so why not drug test those who get money and *don't work. Will it fill the foster care systems up? Sure. Will some kids suffer? Sure, but not for long and no worse than they do now. I mean, seriously, do you really think a drug-addicted mom is going to go buy groceries with that EBT card if she's needing a fix? Hell, no, she's going to trade it for a fraction of its value for her drugs. But, I agree with testing for nicotine and alcohol, too...if you can get those, either by purchase or gift, you can purchase or be gifted food for your kids, too.

Muliebrity said...

Sure, EL. Pull the methadone baby card.

Muliebrity said...

If I thought that there was a way for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine to be tested fairly for, I am not opposed to it. I just think it open the door for more money to be spent and for children to be "punished" to an even greater extent.

Lisa said...

"I just think that I'd rather see my hard earned money paid into taxes go for a single mother who is trying to make herself a better life than say to fund a foreign war - or send more 20 year olds into other countries to come home in body bags... THAT pisses me off!"

And I don't want to see it going to either of those places, frankly. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against all assistance...I'm good with helping the elderly, terminally ill, those with extreme handicaps, etc. People are unable to provide for themselves no matter how good the job market is. And, in this economy, I get that a family, a couple, could find themselves employed and doing well one moth and jobless the next with no job on the horizon for quite some time. I don't mind limited help in that situation, as long as they first liquidate everything possible and then cut out every non-necessary expense. I also think that once re-employed, they should pay it back, even if only a bit at a time. I don't mind helping single parents with things like food, medical care or daycare who find themselves single through death or leaving an abusive relationship. But single parents by choice? Nope, sorry.

And fresh green beans sound SO good right now. :-)

Lisa said...

Mulie, how would it hurt those kids any more than they're already being hurt? And "Sure, EL. Pull the methadone baby card."? It hurt to make that snorting noise out my nose.

Muliebrity said...

I know of some recreational drug using parents whose children don't seem to be negatively effected by what their parents are doing after bed time or while they are with another family member or babysitter. For some, it is the same as having a beer. Would I or do I do that? No. Do I have the occasional glass of wine or gin and tonic? Sure. Do I want children to live with heavy drug users? Of course not. Do I want children to be removed from their homes because their parents tested positive for pot, but otherwise live in a stable environment? Nope.

Muliebrity said...

I think those accepting educational assistance from the government should be tested though. I just don't like the idea of withhold food from people, since it is a basic necessity, and all.

Lisa said...

I think it would be fair to give parents on assistance who use *any drugs, alcohol or tobacco a choice...you get one chance. Test positive again and you lose your kids. Alternately, you can receive no more assistance and it's strictly a legal issue at that point, just like it is for everyone else. That's fair, no?

Lisa said...

But Mulie, if they're told ahead of time what will happen if they test positive, then they've made their choice, picked their priority, haven't they? And it wasn't their kids.

Muliebrity said...

I firmly believe that if you can afford drugs, alcohol, and tobacco, you can be using that money to provide for your family. BUT, I think to do the amount of screening, testing, and monitoring necessary, would make it cost prohibited. I think it would cost the tax payers more money then what we already pay out. Not to mention the lawsuits that would be brought forth.

If people are so worried about the kids, why not drug test every parent? There are plenty of parents who are guilty of these same indiscretions, but are not collecting services from the government.

Tammi said...

I agree..with all of it. LOL

Mulie - Erin and I just happen to live very close - like 20 minutes away - to each other, and my kids and I went to her house Tuesday for a playdate with her kids. Believe me, the "methadone card" is not exactly the card Erin wanted to be dealt here, trust me on that. But, she and her husband are taking in these two beautiful babies and getting them thru a very tough time in their very young lives.

MMMMMmmmmm seafood boil! What do you all put in the boil, Tammi?

East Coasters here - we steam our seafood with JO Spice or Old Bay. We have friends in Gulf Shores AL that have seafood boils and use Zatarain's. Both good!

Yes Lisa - I think that is fair - but the practical aspect of testing for nicotine and alcohol would be difficult - and costly - and how often would you have to test? Ya know - but its a good idea and giving them one chance - and if they blow it again, they lose their kids or lose their benefits might help. But why stop at nicotine and alcohol - why not monitor to be sure they aren't paying for cable tv, which is not a necessity? and they aren't going out to eat, or to the movies, or any other luxury things, they have enough to do that - then they can pay for their own groceries. The amount of food stamps you receive is based on family size and income - and I don't know what the limits are but I know Angela gets less than $150 a month - and that is not enough to feed her and her son for an entire month, even shopping only at Aldi - and buying generic food - she does contribute some towards her food buying...

I don't know the answer... I just think for some - for a short period of time - to help them get on their feet - if they are not out spending their cash on drugs and non necessities, I think its a hand UP - but unfortunately there are alot of people on assistance that consider it a hand out and aren't trying to get off of it. I think a mandatory limit of TIME receiving assistance would be better to control - You get it for a total of 12 months, or whatever, and in that time frame, you better get yourself a better job, or cheaper living expenses or stop having more kids or something... cause 12 month lifetime max and you are on your own... something like that would be easier to control I would think....

Karen said...

Not sure what you meant by pulling the *methadone baby card Mulie - but I give Erin so much credit for taking in those babies and helping her family out - no matter the circumstances that she had to take them in - its ALOT ALOT of work and she already had her hands full with her own family - I doubt if she really wanted to pull that card... but thats her life right now...

Coming back in here and want to clarify that I did snortle at what Muilie said about the methadone baby card, but I don't think she meant it in an ugly way. The way I read it, she was admitting you *would know better, Erin, you had here there, and just trying to put a humorous spin on her own admission of that fact. My apologies to you, and most sincerely, if you read it differently and thought I was laughing about this poor baby and the situation.

That said, yes, testing wouldn't necessarily be expensive if we trained some of the very people on assistance we're speaking of to do it within communities. In essence, give them a job, get them off assistance and earning that money instead *and test the others. Win-win all around. Same with random home inspections, which I think should occur as well. There are good, honest people on assistance...train them to go into homes in their communities unannounced, looking for evidence of drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, unauthorized people living in the home, making sure there's food in the fridge, etc. And no, no cable or other luxuries. Again, win-win...jobs created, rules enforced and in the end, I bet we come out on the better end financially. And anyone who doesn't like home inspections always has the option of taking care of their own responsibilities.

"The thing is the children will not and *are not removed from the home for parental drug use."

And they should be, all of them and on assistance or not, but Erin is right about this.

"The get about 300 bucks. Sell them for 200. Cash."

Those poor babies. The system is broken.

Lisa said...

It *is broken. If they can check ID to buy liquor, why not to use an EBT card? Makes no sense.

Karen said...

I agree the misuse of the system that is supposed to be taking care of the children is seriously broke... and random checks and testing is a good idea, if they don't want to subject themselves to random home searches, then they should support themselves. Then for the remaining honest people that are on assistance that really do want a hand-up - they will readily submit to that type of search and do what they can to get off the assistance as soon as possible. I'm not sure I would want my daughter to get a job as a home inspector, drug tester though - it seems as if that might be a pretty dangerous job to say the least - if you are talking about taking cash out of the hands of drug users - they aren't gonna be too happy about allowing a cute blonde 24 year old into their house to check things out!!

I had a friend in NY who was a process server - and the stories she told about just trying to get a person to admit who they are - accept a summons from her and sign are SCAREY - she was chased with a gun off a property - her car was chased and almost 'rammed' by someone - it was all too dangerous - but she was a real thrill seeker and she loved her job! and the pay was really good for every summons she was able to serve, so she kept doing it!!

My meatloaf was delicious!!

And Mulie if you didn't mean what you said about the methadone baby card as somewhat sarcastic I apologize, I took it the other way - as if you were making light of the fact that Erin is caring for a methadone baby... I guess its hard to read meaning into some words online... without facial expression and voice inflections and stuff!!

Ok, going to pay attention to the grandson that is spending the night - I think I"ll take him for a walk cause its beautiful out tonight!!

See you later!

WOW is all I can say. I do think that putting people in the system to work within the system is a great idea and really is a win win. I mean I know that if it was just proposed that these inspections and tests the powers that be would scream about how there is no money for such things....but dammit putting these people to work would open up a whole new world to them.

And the whole thing with yanking kids from dangerous situations and homes....yeah I know this one. We have a couple that I dont even want to accept as acquaintances anymore. They have the most beautiful and amazing 3 year old little boy. Last year mom was pulled over for DUI, while the officer was talking to her he recognized that she was under the influence of drugs as well.....heroin to be exact. He took her and HER SON who was in the backseat to the station to find out what was up. She was ticketed and fined and after her court date was sent to treatment.....nothing with the baby.

I just found out about a week ago that both mom and dad were fucked up on drugs again and FINALLY the state has yanked that baby away from them. I mean when I first met them he was only about 6 months old and this bitch was constantly bragging about how many gallons of wine she had had that week.

Is the system broken? YES!!!!
Do they have anything in place to encourage people getting off assistance? NO!!!

I snorted at the methadone baby card too. Mostly b/c I thought that as I was typing it! But thank you to you girls for having my back too.

My neighbors 2 kids are over, and I just made dinner for us all. I feel like Michelle Duggar! Actually, it is not different than a usual day. God knows those damn teenagers eat enough for 10!

I had a bacon cheeseburger that did NOT taste like the seafood Tammi made me want.

Lisa said...

That is because the government doesn't *want people off assistance, Shannon. The greatest way to control the masses is to control them financially. Why do you think the old-whit-man system we have in this country makes sure minorities are the most catered to as far as assistance?

Lisa said...

Lol, whit means white in my world.

Lisa said...

My pork picnic thingie isn't going to taste like seafood either. That's not sad, though, since who wants pork to taste like fish? :-D I do wish I was going to Tammi's, though. Instead, we're having soooooooooooooooul food.

Erin, I think I want to be like you when I finally grow up. Only not married to a man, even if he is cute as hell and looks like John Denver.

Lisa said...

Oh, wait, that's Deb and not you. Lololol, ignore my ass. It's been a long day.

I just went back to see how EL said it and I'm glad I read your tone right, EL! I got skeert for a minute!

Just to refresh, EL said, "Since I am living that first hand, I get to trump everyone on *that discussion, unless you can pull out *your methadone baby."

I was being a smart-ass in my reply about pulling the methadone baby card just based on the tone of our "conversation." I love EL and have respect and admiration for what she is doing. Unpleasant topics, such as real life examples of parents harming their children through neglect and drug abuse, make me sad and uncomfortable. When I am sad and uncomfortable, I tend to make inappropriate jokes. The end.

Lisa said...

"When I am sad and uncomfortable, I tend to make inappropriate jokes."

Mulie, I do the same. It's not one of our finer attributes, you know. But, yeah...me, too.

Erin said...

"When I am sad and uncomfortable, I tend to make inappropriate jokes."

me three!!

the worst part to me is that we tried to help these nieces out before, during, and after the mess started treatment programs, couseling, jobs, a place to live. you name it. it is *easier to be a druggie and abuse the system. real life is hard. too hard for them. boo fucking who.

ps- you get no caps when im one hand typing!

Karen said...

When I am sad and uncomfortable, I tend to make inappropriate jokes

Yea - me too! I have been know to laugh uncontrollably before going into a funeral home for calling hours - and when someone falls... yea... laughter!

Glad it was not meant mean spirited mulie!! We need to have a key on the keyboard to show tone and inflection on these blogs - really we do!!!

Been watching this conversation all day.

Agree to this: "That is because the government doesn't *want people off assistance, Shannon. The greatest way to control the masses is to control them financially."

This: "I love EL and have respect and admiration for what she is doing. "

and this: "When I am sad and uncomfortable, I tend to make inappropriate jokes."

Mulie - glad you cleared that up then. I understand the "tone" of the internet is hard to convey sometimes. Thank you for clearing that up for us, really.

Well, my husband is *finally home from another 5 days in France, so I'm outta here for the night - have a good one!

Deb enjoy your time with your husband. Mine is working tonight, boo.

I was browsing the website where Lisa got her glasses from. I found a pair that are really cheap and really cute. The name of the frames? Bacon.
(I also like to change subjects)

Muliebrity said...

<----thinks her life is a sitcom, where she, as the main character, can make inappropriate jokes all day

twirldawg said...

Do you carry around your own laugh track?

Karen said...

I got an eye exam at Walmart for contacts, which didn't work out so well, I don't like the correction if they make it strong enough to read I can't see mid distance, and no matter how many pairs I tried, I can't get it the way I like it. So I'm thinking of just using reading glasses, which I hate, and getting regular glasses to drive and see distance. Does anyone know if I have to get another exam for the glasses prescription, of if they will just give me a prescription based on the contacts exam? I might have to get that glasses website info again and try getting myself a pair or two - now that we know Lisa liked hers! I like the idea of getting a pair of prescription sunglasses and then regular glasses - and I really like the idea of cheap!!

I hate slow songs and slow dancing, but 80's power ballads are damn fine.

Karen- my brother and I were forbidden to sit anywhere near each other at funerals. Or weddings. Or pretty much anywhere you had to act appropriate.

My sisters and I always get the giggles in church when we are together. Typically someone in front of us farts and we end up in hysterics.
Last Christmas it was Richard that farted and then he declared the priest Santa.

Muliebrity said...

Jill, That made me laugh out loud!

I hate any all ballads, yes, including 80's power ballads. The strange thing is, I know all the words to every damn ballad ever made. Talk about a curse.

HI Sandy - I'll share the futon with you - if you share the snuggie too - its downright chilly outside tonight - I love this weather!!

Hey Karen, no problem.

Hey Lisa, would you sing to me and Karen?

Lisa said...

Hey. I'm thinking about early bed - my head hurts. Karen, I'd think they could give you your glasses prescription at Walmart. Give them a cal and ask. I *love my new glasses. Well, 3 out of 4 pair. The b1g1 sale is off now but even regular price is great. Check currentcodes.com for coupon codes, too. I've also used this place in the past, with great success. www.zennioptical.com

Mulie, you're killing me. Anthropologie is my favorite store in the world and those sheets are cute!

Karen said...

Sandy - I think Lisa is leaving without singing!!

::sad pouty face::

Is zennioptical the one you bought from Lisa? Or is that another one you use? Can you tell me again where you bought yours? I'm gonna call tomorrow - and start shopping today!!

Erin said...

Mulie- usually I will pass on your high falutin' stuff, but those sheets are really, really great. And those are the colors/theme I am redoing the playromm in. Hmmm. Do you read NieNie?

http://nieniedialogues.blogspot.com/2010/07/alice-lane-and-delicious-details.html

I love this room. What are the chance of me finishing my playroom in a timely fashion with 6 kids helping?

APLisa- I hope you feel better. Hang in there, August is almost here.
