Oh, Joe...no. You didn't...?

So, I spared everyone Sunday services since no one ever cares anyway. Heathens. Goddamn heathens, the lot of you.

Anyway, did anyone actually manage to sit thorough all of Obama's speech the other night? I did but I must admit I nodded off with Joe a few times. Lord have mercy, it was dull. So, the gist of it, as I understood it, is that he's campaigning again, he needs to raises taxes a whole heckuvalot and the root of our troubles is in unfunded budget cuts. What *is an unfunded budget cut, anyway? What did y'all get out of it, if you watched? I'm just so *very disappointed in him so maybe that's coloring my view. Thoughts? Opinions? Anything?

Yes Heathens...I am the head heathen :)

I cannot sit through any of the stuff our govt spouts off for 12 hours on the TV :) I try to read it later because it is less dull. I cant blame poor Joe for falling asleep :)

Lisa it took me longer but I am there with you in the boat of disappointment. I was really hoping that we would have change like we were promised and all it has been is more of the same. I think that since Obama took office I have really had my eyes open to the fact that it doesnt matter if there is a D or an R after their name, they dont remember us. The people who allegedly voted for these people do not matter to them and it is very very disillusioning.

I never watch those speeches, because yeah, boring as hell, and you are right they don't care.

What do you all think of Trump running???

I think that Trump could do amazing things for this country from a business perspective but I am not too sure how I would feel about him dealing with foreign relations. He is used to getting results and not taking no for an answer or having others talk back or disagree with him.

I'm disturbed by Trump running. While I'll admit he's brought home a valid point about Obama's birth certificate, and I truly hate admitting that point since I've long been a "defender" of the "fact" Obama was born in Hawaii, I'm forced to wonder why in the hell he (Obama) hasn't long since flung that birth certificate in everyone's faces with a resounding "See, I told you so!" and in one fell swoop, he could make Trump and others look like asses. Why hasn't that happened? But, this shit Trump is throwing out about Obama spending $2M to fight having to show his BC is also bullshit. Money has been paid to fight the requests to show it, a fact that bothers me very much, but it's not $2M. So from the outset, Trump has started with incorrect figures and coming from a man who is alllll about the money, it makes me feel like he's nothing but a joke with a good point or two. You know, sort of like Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann. I could never vote for Trump because he's the *ultimate capitalist (did I really just say that as if it's a bad thing??) and I believe he'd use what dignity this nation has left to further his own agenda.

I find it *interesting that Trump is running, but I do not think he would make a good president. He is just way too arrogant and is a bully. I think the next election cycle will be interesting. Unless Obama can get gas prices down, he is going to hurt himself even more. I think Ron Paul is an interesting choice, but I don't see him carrying *any state. Interesting indeed.

Mulie, I like Ron Paul a lot. That said, he can't win for two reasons - how he looks, because we aren't going to elect a mousy, tiny looking man, and because he's now a multi-time loser and we (generically speaking) don't like losers, either. I agree with you that it's going to be very interesting. If you could see anyone run, who would you like?

I do like Mitt Romney, mainly because he's had great success in managing healthcare in MA as a Republican in a Democratic state, he's pro-choice, and generally fiscally conservative. I'd really like to see someone with experience working on both sides.

I still like Ron Paul, and I really have no idea who else is in the mix.

I strongly dislike Mitt Romney...I can't quite put my finger on why, except to say I think he's a firm believer in saying what will get him the votes. For the record, he's not pro-choice and has clarified often that he changed his position. As far as healthcare in MA, it's continued on as it did under Romney and is failing...in addition, he said from the outset that it would never work nationally, that it only worked in MA because they had the highest rate of privately insureds in the country to begin with. There really wasn't much for him to manage. He basically privatized Medicaid and it made the numbers look really good. I swear, I'm not saying this because I don't like him, Mulie, but as part of *why I don't like him. I actually like Mike Huckabee but for the fact he'd actively try to overturn Roe vs. Wade and his stance on gay marriage.

I'd like to see ex-VA governor Tim Kaine run, actually, since he's a somewhat conservative, common-sensed Democrat, but he's running for Senate. Alternately, I'd suck it up and take my chances with anti-gay marriage, pro-life Marco Rubio, if he'd run. At least both strike me as honest men with true public service hearts.

What did y'all think about Obama releasing his BC? I'm glad he did, don't get why he took him so damn long, and think we need to let it go now. That said, I do find it very odd his father's race was listed as "African" and not "Negro", since "Negro" was the common legal terminology in 1961 and "African" has never been a race. But whatever, it's time to let it go.

Honestly, I just know why I liked Romney 8 years ago. I'm terribly out of the loop. My mom had Colin Powell visiting her school this week and I'd love to to him or Dr Rice run, but I don't think there's a chance either of them will. That's really because I personally like them. Not sure if they are right for the job.

One of my friends just wrote an excellent post on Obama's BC and Trump. I think it's a perspective worth reading.

Dr. Rice as in Condoleezza Rice? Um, no, thanks, not for me. Not even remotely or in a next lifetime or something. Now, Colin Powell? Oh, yes. But he's really too old and far too disinclined to consider it. And that is our loss, imo.

As for your friend's blog, we've been discussing the same thing around here - that's it's possible, even probable, that Trump is a plant. If so, game well played. Too bad this isn't a game. I disagree with her (him?) about the importance of Obama's BD, though. *He made it important by refusing to supply it...given his multi-cultural and multi-national history, he made himself look bad. If you're going to run on being different and offering up the good in those differences as proof, you have to, fairly, be prepared to disprove the possible bad.

BD = BC...sorry.

I'd vote for Ron Wyden in a heartbeat, US Senator from Oregon, if he were running. He's a Democrat that has been out there fighting for US interests since he was 30. A good, good man.

Trump is nauseating, but entertaining. Sure he has "Trumped Up" many business dealings and a TV show and airtight prenuptual agreements. Whatever. He is a skank.
