That's one big-ass fleece sleeper.

In addition to giving us a new post to chat on, I thought I'd share this and see what y'all think. Meet, Stanley, the adult baby who lives on taxpayer-funded disability. No, really, he does. So does his babysitter.

If you'd prefer to read about him instead of watch the video, here you go.

If this just isn't a prime example of what the hell is wrong with this country, I don't know what is.  *shakes head*  But hey, feel free to jump in and chat about anything else you prefer, as well!

tired still! how's florida?

Lisa said...

I'm sorry you're so tired, Rhys. How's that girlie of yours doing? I peep in on her CB page every so often but it's been a few days since I've checked.

Florida is good...we have cool weather for the first time today! It's lovely knowing summer is pretty much over! I've been sick as a dog with the flu, but feel better today than I have in about a week, so yay. Jake has been trying out living in Ft. Lauderdale with friends and while he loves the area and there's much more opportunity for him, they're a bunch of damn drama queens in a small space and I think he may be coming home soon. Unless they all get over it. Who knows? ;-)

I am thinking that if he can get paid by the govt to do that then I may be able to see what I can do to prove to someone I am batshit crazy and get paid for it.

Lisa I will be sure to give you my address so you can come kick my ass :)

Lisa said...

Shannon, don't give it to me...let me stalk you and find it, okay? It's more fun that way!

twirldawg said...

I just don't get people.

Shannon said...

LOL fine Lisa I wont take away the fun of the hunt :)

Jill I have seen and done things that people would just shake their head at and ask why...this guy and his 'babysitter' with giganormous ta-tas is just weird.

Lisa said...

"I just don't get people"

In this case, I think you should be grateful for that, Jill.

"his 'babysitter' with giganormous ta-tas"

Lol, those were some skeery ones, weren't they?

Shannon said...

HAHAHAHA yes they were!!! Made my back hurt just seeing her walk with them.

tumbleweedgirl said...

i don't get it either. it just seems... broken.

it makes people who need ssi look that shady too.

lisa,

the girlie is ok. just tired a lot. we have our shining moments and lots of laying with snuggly friends and blankies.

i still think life is good. (=

tumbleweedgirl said...

oops - ps.

sorry you had the flu, that sucks ):

we have had lots of cool weather here, (= (= but we live a teeny bit farther north! o, and the north to which we are headed has actual glaciers and areas of permafrost (in the mountains) (=

I saw this story on television a few months ago. It's awful that people like this can live off the system, but then others who genuinely need help can't get it. Case in point, my MIL has MS, she can barely walk, she works for the school district (and she's not one to be lazy, she loves working with kids) anywho, point of my story, she'll never be eligible for disability. So, when she finally reaches a point when she can't physically work, she has no options for help :(

Shannon said...

TWG how is the move going? Have you gotten to move yet? Settling in?

Mama P that is soooo true. My ex SIL was trying to get disability because she got a concussion like 4 years ago and a doctor told her once it might be concussion syndrome.....another doc told her it was all in her head. She is one who would use the system for all she can if given the chance. It makes me angry because so many who need it cant get it.

we *think* we sold. like just now. someone made an offer. they like to flip houses.

so i'm tryingto make sure i know everything i need to to examine and accept an offer on saturday.

*cross* fingers.

Shannon said...

AWESOME possum!!!! I hope that it is a good offer and that there are no problems and you guys can get yourselves moved closer to where you need to be for all of you.

Robin said...

Yay!! A new post!

Unfortunately, this will be a drive-by. My husband is coming home in about an hour, and I have some things I need to get done before then...but hello everyone! I'll come back when I have time to sit a bit and chat. :)

Lisa said...

Awesome possum and then this: "and a doctor told her once it might be concussion syndrome.....another doc told her it was all in her head." Lmao @ Shannonisms.

Rhys, that's excellent and exciting news! Please keep us updated?

Mama P, welcome back. :-) And I honestly don't object to disability when it is genuinely needed. Hopefully your MIL can get some legal help when such a time arises. I know, at least around here, it's easy to get it.

So, didja see JM is filing bankruptcy? Shocker, I know and it makes me damn sick. What leeches on society they are, and to call herself a Christian? That's a joke and her followers on FB are actually congratulating her for it. Seriously, people like her (and them) make me lose faith in everyone as a whole...we're just losing all sense of decency as a society, aren't we?

Yo, Robin! *makes OHIH gang signs*

So, I know I mentioned this before but I didn't keep it up, I am Tempi from BWOP. Well, I post as Tempi over there. Anywho...

It is crazy how many people are okay with the whole bankruptcy thing, and how many people are saying good job, or I'm proud of you! It's so stupid that people can't just stand up and be responsible, own your bills, get a job, take care of your family, it's what your supposed to do!

Shannon said...

You know I just seriously dont get how people will use bankruptcy as a means of fixing things that they caused. I get that there are things that happen in life that make it very difficult to get out from under things that you have no control of....like medical emergencies and such. I mean I have been pretty damn down and out and I do have bills but I have not thought of attempting to file bankruptcy for it. I also dont have an actual credit card...I have one of those green dot cards. I dont have a home loan. I dont have a vehicle financed. I just dont do things that I have to worry about burying me. Sure sometimes I would really like to have all of those things but I am more worried about not being able to pay them LOL

Lisa said...

Tempi, I never knew this was you (or I'm just old and forgetful) but gosh, I'm glad you're here under whichever name. :-)

There was a time I was dead set against all bankruptcy and still pretty much am, but in this day and time, I do understand how it might have to be done in a few cases. Very few, but maybe. But this is a woman who was still spending freely as recently as a couple of months back...sorry, no. And to toss in wanting another baby in the same post as announcing bankruptcy? Jesus.

Shannon said...

And Lisa my SIL was PISSED!!!! when the doctor told her it was just all in her head.....I almost snortled trying not to laugh in her face :)

Anonymous said...

This is the real me, I made up the Tempi name because I wanted to post on something on BWOP awhile back, but didn't want to use my own name because I was afraid someone might come say mean things to me LOL. I've since gotten over that to a point :)

I think each Bankruptcy situation is unique, but in JM's case I think she is wrong on many accounts. Fancy trips, high end baby stuff, all the other crap. If you are serious about paying down debt you put your debt first. You buy from thrift stores, you don't go on multiple trips, etc. What pushed me over the edge so-to-speak was the not paying the employee of IM's, that man had a family to take care of, not paying him is just downright awful!

Hubby and I rent our house right now, we bought our vehicles with cash only, we don't use credit cards, and we don't buy anything unless we have cash to pay for it. We have some debt, but we work hard on paying it. We don't have everything we want, but we still get buy and I bet we are 10x's happier than the Mckinney's and all their fancy stuff!

Lisa said...

You know what kills me about the medical bill excuse? While all-inclusive private insurance is expensive, a family plan of major medical only really isn't that bad and can keep you out of financial ruin in the event of a catastrophic illness. Of, course it means maybe not having cable, vacations, the nicer house you really felt you needed, etc. But, it's doable. Sadly, so many people consider what really are extras to be necessities these days. ANd the worst part is, if you file bamkruptcy, in just a year or two you'll be able to get some credit offered to you again. If you plug along paying what you owe even though you're late, it'll take you far long to get credit again. People are giving up morals for ease.

Shannon said...

I do agree Lisa. I know that for myself if something were to happen seriously health wise we would be screwed. HOWEVER I also know that there are programs through our hospital that people donate to to help with medical bills and they are very willing to work with you for getting the bills paid off. I personally would much rather do that then just dump all of my bills.

Mama P I am like you girl. I bought a 25 year old truck for cash because it was what I could afford. I learned how to be mechanical and found a very good mechanic that doesnt charge an arm and leg to help with things I just couldnt do. We live with friends/family right now and it is mutually beneficial. We too buy only what we have cash for. We have some luxuries but to some what we have is just what you have to have to live LOL. I dont need fancy. I dont need new. I am pretty happy with life....would be a whole lot better if I could get a job though dammit!!!

tumbleweedgirl said...

well, to be fair, we couldn't afford medical insurance for *us* at all. but the kids have the state thingie. thank goodness, esp in girlie's case...

anyway - when the big medical things happened to us, we got on payment plans. because of that, and because they looked at our frugal income, much was forgiven. defaulting? bankruptcy? when you're spending like that? nuts.

we break our backs to be careful, live carefully. we didn't always and we are digging ourselves out. but most of our debt, as in 75%, is school loans.

anyway. if bankruptcy really is necessary it seems like something has to give. like spending on stuff. fancy stuff. fancy food.

and you don't have to feed junk to feed a healthy family of 3* for $10/wk.

*i say 3, even though we have 4. girlie can no longer have food by mouth. hers is supplied through magical cans of good stuff.

Anonymous said...

Our favorite luxury is our cable :) and since hubby is a cable man, we get all the channels for free xD.

Morally, I don't think I could claim bankruptcy, even with all the medical bills (that they have). Then again, I would never rack up so much debt in the first place.

tumbleweedgirl said...

of course i'm full of myself. (=

we have cars that are paid for. dad was talking to us, trying to tell us he knew things were tight, but i needed a better car (ours was being very flaky). i told him we'd only have one if not for our lia.

he mostly just worries about us.the nice thing is up there, we will live close enough to husband's work in case of car emergencies.

wheeeeeeeeeee!!!! housing is cheaper up there too. (=

oops. tossed puppy's toy into the lego bin. gotta go help him rummage.

Shannon said...

LOL TWG I am a little full of myself as well. And like you most all of my debt is in the form of student loans. That is part of my frustration with no job grrrr

tumbleweedgirl said...

shannon

is the IBR at all available to you?? it has helped us *so* much.

we would have folded a long time ago but for that.

Shannon said...

It is and I am using it for sure. Thankfully my repayments right now are low but I dont really want to be paying for the rest of my life :) Already figuring out my own payments for when I am working so that I can get stuffs paid off quicker.

tumbleweedgirl said...

shannon

no kidding! same here. at least husband's should be eligible for forgiveness (fingers crossed) because of his line of work....

Anonymous said...

So, all this talk of student loan debt made me want to figure out ours. and OH MY GOD.

By the time hubby and I are done with our bachelor's next year we will have a grand total of $135,000 in student loan debt between the two of us. That's not even including the cost of the Master's program which I plan to go through. oh mm gee, that is a towering number.

twirldawg said...

I'm surprised that MckMama hasn't filed before now. I hope she learns from her mistakes (she won't) and changes her ways (she won't). Bankruptcy sucks and after it is all said and done she'll still have her student loans to pay off (if she has them) because they can't be rolled into a bankruptcy.

Shannon said...

Mama P.....I have to figure out for sure what I am doing because I want to finish my bachelor's degree but I am terrified of the loan debt.

Jill that is so true. And you cant file bankruptcy on loans and I almost think that with some of the judgments they have against them that they cant roll those into bankruptcy either.

tumbleweedgirl said...

it seems a desperate chance to hang onto something. ihope that they can. it'd be hard on the kids.

twirldawg said...

I have one more monstrous student loan payment left before I can have the payment lowered. Heck at least I got a little use out of the degree. My husband never finished his degree and owes nearly as much as I do.

Lisa said...

See, I truly don't think the McKs have medical bills. Of course, I can't prove it but I feel certain they were on MN's state care, which covers families and not just kids. That woman is alll about excuses, so if medical bills had contributed to their financial downfall, she'd have dragged that puppy of an excuse out ages ago. Nah, I'd bet there are no real medical bills there that contributed at all.

Student loans are something I'm honestly grateful I avoided. It meant not getting a degree, but in the end, I'm still not sure I have any regrets about that choice when I hear these staggering amounts.

Jazz Hands! Now that was some funny stuff. I saw the light on and thought I would stop in and say hi.

Sandy said...

Um, I just watched the video. Could someone pass me the bleach for my eyes please?

Lisa said...

Hey there, Sandy!

Just peeping in on everyone...'morning. :-)

Shannon said...

Morning....Sandy I will see if there is any bleach left we may have already used all the bleach :)

Lisa I dont think that they have medical bills either. Like you said if she had a lot of them or even a good chunk she would have played that whoa is me card long ago when his illness was very lucrative...she probably would have had people all over helping ot pay them off.

Sandy said...

Hey Lisa and Shannon. There better be some bleach left 'cause I'm having some serious flashbacks.

I don't think they had medical bills either. If they did, a majority of it was probably written off by the doctors/hospitals.

I know here if you contact the billing department of the hospitals, you can fill out paperwork showing your income and monthly expenses. Since both of them were "self-employed" at the time, my guess would be that any outstanding bills were zeroed out or drastically reduced.

Lisa said...

Rhys, any news on the house sale?

Sandy, now all you need is your own personal Diaper Man living on your street. ;-)

For the most part, people with insurance avoid the ER like the plague, since they run the risk of the visit not being deemed necessary and, therefore, not covered. Alternately, the co-pays and other charges for the ER are often more. Yet JM and crew? Seem to use the ER exclusively. That's usually telltale sign of someone on a government program.

they should *should* come tomorrow to write the offer! so we shall see.

just got back from visiting the Man in the desert. last time. bittersweet sagebrush memories.

more in a bit when i've decompressed my legs from driving stick over rutted roads!
